T-Mobile Users! Opt Out Now to Avoid Having Your Data Sold
Calling all T-Mobile users! 📣
T-Mobile is changing its privacy policy, which means that the company will be able to sell your web usage data unless you adjust your settings to opt out!
These changes won’t take effect until April 26th, but if you’re concerned about protecting your privacy, you should opt out now while you’re thinking about it. It only takes a moment! Keep reading for two easy ways that you can opt out.
*Note that this does appear to be working for Sprint & Metro users as well.
From the T-Mobile App
- Tap the “More” tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap “Advertising & Analytics.”
- Select the phone line you want to opt out.
- Switch the “Use my data to make ads more relevant to me” to “off.”
From the T-Mobile website
- Login & click “My Account“
- Click “Profile“
- Scroll down and click “Privacy and Notifications“
- Then click “Advertising & Analytics.”
- Select the phone line you want to opt out.
- Switch the “Use my data to make ads more relevant to me” to “off.”
If you take no action before April 26, 2021, you’ll automatically be opted in to the new program. You can learn more about how T-Mobile uses your data here.

Thank you soooo much!
Thanks H2S! I probably wouldn’t have known otherwise.
You are welcome! Thanks for stopping by, MeRiv!
Thanks! I tried to read the new TOS agreement this morning but my eyes began to cross before I’d gone through a few paragraphs.
I’m glad you could see this article! Those TOS are so tiny! I can’t read them either.
Does this include their Metro pcs customers too ?
It’s listed on the Tmobile site. If you use that site, it probably applies to you as well.
I am a Verizon customer but i’m curious how this affect person. If i had t mobile and didnt opt out what is the drawback for not doing so? What can be different for a person who opts out or does not?
Thank you, the steps made this easy. Thank you for keeping us informed.
You are welcome, Nancy!
Couldn’t find it on the sprint part even though it says so. Only ring on profile is my account password and stuff
For sprint, I went to the desktop version on my phone. Select MY ACCOUNT, then from the dropdown MY PREFERENCES, and then MANAGE ADVERTISING AND ANALYTICS PREFERENCES (under ALL ABOUT MY ACCOUNT). Then you just select the phone line you want to change. I had to change each of our phone lines individual.
Thank you for this information!!!! I couldn’t figure it out.
Thanks for the heads up!
This isn’t surprising. I just finally closed out one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve ever had with any company.. By reporting them as fraud to my credit card company. T-mobile is THE worst company I have ever dealt with. I don’t even think dealing with the IRS and DEA to open a pharmacy selling narcotics was half the headache as t-mobile was. And now they’re automatically selling their customers information? What a joke! They aren’t bbb certified and if you go to their site there are literally hundreds of people saying they had the same experience I did.
You must be living in a bubble if you don’t think all companies sell your information, even ones you are not a customer of. Thanks to the government for not having privacy laws like Europe.
Thank you! Used the app and was able to shut it off on all my lines
You are so welcome, Jessica!
Thank you so much!!!
Thank you for letting us know.
Holy moly!! Thanks for the heads up!!
So glad you found this helpful, Mimi!
How do you do this for Sprint?
I would like to know as well!
I posted directions above. I used the chrome browser and logged in on my phone.
So, how is this different than targeted ads I get now if I don’t opt out?
Good question! I’m curious as well…
Thank you for the very easy to follow directions. You did a great job simplifying the process.
Thank you! I’m curious – what about the one that says, “Use my days for analytics and reporting.” That one is safe? Thank you again!
Just did all 4 lines. Took less than a minute. Thanks so much for the heads up😀
You are so welcome, Michelle1313!
Thank you sooooo much!!
You’re very welcome!
keeps saying technical difficulties
Darn! I was just able to get this to work for me. Maybe wait a moment and try again OR switch to desktop view if using a mobile device. Hoping that helps!
Thank you H2S ….
You’re so welcome!
THANK YOU!!
You’re welcome, Vicki!
Turn off “Use my data for analytics and reporting.” too? TIA
You can do that too if you’d like.
Thanks for the info!
