Necco Candy Wafers Are Back After a 2-Year Disappearance
Necco produced its iconic wafers in the USA from 1847 to 2018, making it one of the oldest candy brands in existence when it was purchased by Spangler Candy in 2018.
That’s right around the time that Necco Wafers abruptly disappeared from store shelves. And now these colorful, disk-shaped candies are returning at a time when we all seem to be craving comfort in the form of nostalgic foods!
Necco Wafers will make their triumphant return in eight classic flavors – lemon, lime, orange, clove, cinnamon, wintergreen, licorice, and chocolate. The original Necco Waffer recipe has remained unchanged with the exception of chocolate, which now has a richer cocoa flavor.
These nostalgic candies will start appearing in major drug stores this June, and then other retailers in July. Head on over to the Spangler Candy website to see the complete list of stores where you’ll be able to purchase them when they roll out!
Hooray!! 😊
🎉🙌
I hope this means the conversation hearts are coming back too, the Brachs brand are not as good.
I agree! I’d love to see them again, wjabkowski!
I totally agree!
I agree. Brach’s have no taste and I don’t like that they aren’t smooth when you suck on them because of the raised lettering on both sides. I hope Necco also brings back packages of just chocolate.
Lol. My daughter just watched an episode of How it’s Made and they had this. She wanted to try them. Lol. Timing!
That’s super cool!
My 95 year old grandmother is expected to pass today. These were one of her favorites.
I’m really sorry to hear about your grandma, Sue. Our thoughts and prayers are with you from the HipTeam.
Has it been two years? Wow! Glad they are back
This was one of my mom’s favorite candies (she like many rich treats with quite a sweet tooth that I inherited)… she passed away 2 years ago so during her birthday month my kids & I do things she enjoyed- like listening to 70s & 80s music & eating her favorite nostalgic goodies. I’ll be excited to look for these!!
What a sweet memory! Thanks for sharing it with us!
We live about an hour away from the Spangler Dum Dum factory (northwest Ohio) and took a tour of it last year. We had a great time learning about the candy and shopping at the gift shop.
That sounds like a lot of family fun!
This news made my 2020. That can’t be good! Definitely stocking up!!
Yay! What a HUGE compliment, Kim!
Thank goodness one bit of bright news.
I toured the factory these candies were originally made in Revere, MA. Glad to see they are back… I wonder if they are still made in Massachusetts. My stepfather loves them and will be happy to see that they are back. Plus what else works for the roofs of gingerbread houses…hahaha.
I am 62 and ate these at about age 7 or 8 especially when I was reading. I was so sorry to see these go away. I hope they bring the chocolate only packs back as they are my favorite!
I hope they do, too!
I wonder how long ago these were manufactured? Manufacturers have been closed for more than two months in Massachusetts.
You just made my day!!!
Awww, so glad!
Yay!! Such a fun part of my childhood…. I hope they bring the valentine hearts back also …. it was heartbreaking when they pulled the plug ,,,this really is great news! I hope I can find them locally!! Sounds like one of those things that will sell out fast.
I can’t remember where it was exactly but I remember a Necco shaped water tower in a long car trip. I’m glad to hear that they are back.
I found some of the “necco”/ original conversation hearts this last valentine’s day. They said the “original” candy hearts in big letters on the box. They were only in the small valentine box size, I couldn’t find a whole bag of them. They tasted just as I remembered. Also, they were peanut & tree nut free! So my daughter who is allergic to both was thrilled she could have them!
