We’ve Got the Lowdown on Target’s Holiday Price Match Policy and Extended Returns Through 12/24
We’re breaking down everything there is to know about Target’s price match guarantee!
We know Target price matches, but did you know about their holiday policy?
You can shop with confidence knowing you will get the best price this Holiday season with Target’s Holiday Price Match Guarantee!
Through December 24th, 2023 you can ask for a price adjustment on ALL items purchased at Target if there’s a lower price later in the season! Note that proof of purchase will be required for price adjustments.
Additionally, for any purchases made October 1st through December 24th, there is an extended return window of 14 days— up to 30 days, depending on the item. The extension begins December 26th. So, even if you buy the item now, the return clock doesn’t start ticking until the day after Christmas!
Plus, they will also keep matching select competitors’ pricing within 14 days of purchase – their standard policy. Find more details here.
If you’re interested in the general terms of Target’s year-round policy, we have thoroughly read the Target price match policy so you don’t have to, and everything that you need to know about it is summarized below to ensure the next time you want to price match, you have a smooth savings experience.
Target only price matches from specific competitors including Amazon.
Target price matches from 29 competing retailers. The list includes Amazon, Sam’s Club, Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohl’s, Petco, Sephora, and many more. You can find the full list here. The item you price match must be from one of these 29 stores.
The bottom line is that they’ll price match qualifying items if you can find the exact item for less at one of said competitors. This includes if there’s a different price on Target.com versus in-store, online competitors, and/or local print ads. You can request this at the moment you’re purchasing or up to 2 weeks after already purchasing any item.
The item has to be identical, and the price has to be currently active, not a past listing; Target must be able to fact-check the price you’re showing. If it’s a price from two weeks ago that is now expired, it won’t be eligible.
If you’re showing an offer from a deal website (preferably Hip2Save 😉), as long as the offer is valid on the retailer’s primary website, it will be accepted! All they ask is for you to bring in the ad, digital or printed, as a form of proof. Don’t forget to bring your receipt/proof of purchase, too, if you already bought the item!
And now, for the exclusions to Target’s Price Match policy:
Unfortunately, Target locations in both Hawaii and Alaska do not price match.
No rainchecks are given if the item is out of stock or sold out to match the competitor’s price. However, they will give you a rain check to match the current sale price of whichever specific Target location you’re at, and it’ll be valid, depending on your state, for some time between 30-45 days.
These vouchers are only given in-store, and it is a physical voucher, similar to a gift card. It can’t be used on software titles, movies, music, or cell phone contracts.
You can get 5% off using your Target Red Card or team member discount, but there’s no discount for Target Circle members.
You’re unable to price match clearance, closeout, damaged, used, opened, liquidation sales, and/or pre-owned items. This also includes items that had some sort of error in the listing. You can’t price-match items from Target Circle, gift card offers, or anything from a Target Plus Partner. You can’t price match an item from one Target store to another and you are unable to price match items that are a competitor’s doorbuster or lightning deal. Also, items containing alcohol depend on state mandates for whether or not they’ll be price matched.
Be sure to confirm the competitor retailer is nearby since it must be within a 25-mile radius of your local Target to be accepted.
What about price matching food at Target?
Whether you grocery shop at a Super Target or buy a few snacks at a regular one, you’ll be happy to know that certain grocery items also qualify. Produce must match the item identically, including brand name, size, weight, and quantity in order to be qualified.
Know before you go: Items must be sold using the same measuring unit. For example, if you want to match a Chiquita banana, and Target sells 3 bananas for $3, but Walmart sells 3 pounds of bananas for $2, that won’t be accepted as they both need to be measured by either weight or per item.
Now that you know the price matching policy, head to Target and get those deals!

I normally get low prices for coupon and coupon codes, Does that qualify?
Great question, Kris! I did find this –
“We’re not able to price match if…
-If you received a promotional Target GiftCard as part of the original purchase. Or, if the product currently has a Target GiftCard offered as part of a promotion.
-You are also using a Target Circle offer, Registry completion coupon or other Target coupons.
-The item is on clearance, closeout, liquidation, refurbished or is a typographical error.”
You can always reach out to customer service to double check on any specific item or purchase in question. Hoping this helps! 🙌💞
If you want to compare Target store prices to Target.com while you shop, DO NOT CONNECT TO TARGET WIFI! You might not even be able to use the app in the story to see them — you’ll see store prices online. Open up a browser and go to Target.com to see the real online prices. I’m convinced that it’s designed to make it harder to price match against Target.com, which is sometimes significantly cheaper than the store.
Oh interesting! Thanks for the tip and helpful suggestion on shopping in store, Maggie. Good to keep in mind. 💞🤗
What about electronic purchases? Do you get that extra return time?
Hey Kristy! This applies to both in store and online purchases. 🥰
