I can’t tell you the number of thermometers I have bought that were total and complete junk. This is especially true of the no contact ones and the surface thermometers. So, my expectations were relatively low as to the effectiveness of this particular thermometer but I was so so wrong. There is virtually no set up. Just put the batteries in and pull the trigger. A few tips- first, make sure you keep it in the same room you will be using it in for at least 20 minutes before using it. Don’t use it in front of the fan or AC unit or outdoors. Hold it a foot from the forehead and point directly in the center. Pull the trigger and the temp pops up instantly. It simply works!

Our old thermometer quit working! We had a sick person and needed a thermometer right away! Amazon delivered this the same morning! The readings for the rest of us seemed reasonable. I am very happy! It was like an early Christmas present!
