Several Outback Steakhouse Locations Have Suddenly Closed (Here’s What We Know!)
Outback Steakhouse closed several locations. Here’s what you need to know!
Outback Steakhouse suddenly closes several locations.
News broke last Friday that Bloomin’ Brands, the parent company of Outback Steakhouse, had closed 41 locations due to underperformance. The majority of these locations (33 of the 41) were closed this past Friday. Restaurants that saw closures included Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, Aussie Grill, and Fleming’s.
An official list of the closed restaurants has not been released. However, we spotted a few news articles talking about the closures. Most notably, every Outback in Hawaii was shuttered with very little notice. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa location has also closed and so have Pennsylvania locations, like Harrisburg. Bonefish Grill locations in both New Jersey and Virginia saw closures, as well as, Carrabba’s locations in New York.
Bloomin’ Brands cited a few factors responsible for the closures. These factors include low sales, poor customer traffic, and decreasing financial investments. Most of the locations were older and still had leases from the 90s and 2000s, according to CNN Business.
There is hope on the horizon for fans of Outback Steakhouse.
Out with the old, in with the new!
Though these closures sound like bad news, Bloomin’ Brands plans to open up to 18 new Outback Steakhouse restaurants in 2024, including one in Birmingham. This next year may see up to 45 new restaurants across Bloomin’s portfolio, so fans of Carrabba’s, Fleming’s, Aussie Grill, and Bonefish Grill might just have something to look forward to too.
Bloomin’ Brands is banking that opening new locations will draw in customers and the company is prepared to drop about $20 million in marketing.
We love outback! Honestly, we try not to spend that much going out to eat, so we wouldn’t normally choose outback for a main meal, but the Bloomin onion has often called our name. We will swing in and just snag a blooming onion! They are so good! Now I’m going to have to see if our closest one is open anymore. Thanks for letting us know!!!
You’re welcome, Jeanette. ❤️ Hoping your nearby location isn’t impacted so you can still enjoy the Bloomin’ Onion on occasion! 🤞
There is a new Outback set to open on the east side of Cincinnati.
Awesome! Thanks for letting us know about a new location, Richele! ❤️ Hoping they receive lots of business there. 🤞
I’m a democrat and appreciate your comment as it was respectful we can disagree in a mature manner and not get catty and go below the belt when expressing our views so thanks!!
Last time I checked H2S was not Democrat or Replubican. Please leave political comments/affiliations out of this site. (and yes, I’ve reported your comment, so hopefully this is deleted).
We used to go to Outback quite often. Back when gift cards were $70 for $100, free app coupons are all over and the loyalty club offered a freebie entree after you visited 3 times . It was a real nice meal at a decent price.
Our go to order was an onion blossom, and a Tomahawk Rib eye, and we shared it.
Then they decided to jack the prices way up, and of course make the ribeye smaller and less quality. The last time we went, it was really not very good, and the end cost was almost double. I used to enjoy Outback, but they lost me when they priced me out of my comfort zone, while lowering their quality.
With so many sales recently on bone-in rib roasts, I grabbed a bunch of them for the freezer, and use my air fryer for my rib eyes. It is pretty simple to cut the bones out, and slice them as thick as you care for.
We love Outback. But overall, it’s expensive now to eat out. So we’ve stopped going out to eat at restaurants even though we can afford it.
Our local Applebees closed in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Funny timing; we just ordered Outback to go for the first time in many years. My SIL wanted it for her birthday. My husband got food poisoning – was sick all night and the next day and our son said he didn’t feel well either. My burger was raw/cold in the middle so I could only eat the edges. Really poor quality compared to how it used to be. I can understand the closings.
Oh no! SO sorry to hear about that experience and that your son and husband didn’t feel well. Hope they are doing better now! ❤️ Thanks for sharing.
