I picked Walgreens. Mainly b/c last month they started telling me I couldn’t use the coupon from the Monthly book in addition to a mfg coupon. Luckily there’s one lady that knows me & will override it. But the register beeps when I try to do it & it shouldn’t be a #s issue. I bought one item, handed over WAG & MFG coupon. It beeped & they told me I’d have to buy something else & the coupons didn’t cover the entire price so that shouldn’t have been an issue.

Another thing is RR expire WAY TOO FAST. As someone said, they don’t always have good deals, but I feel I have to use it.

I love deals I get at WG, but there are times I DREAD going it b/c I’m afraid what it will be…

I voted for Target because that is where I have the most difficulty on a regular basis ONLY because I have boycotted Walmart and Walgreens for the most part. Walmart is not coupon friendly at all!! I recently had a coffee-mate b1g1 coupon and a $1/1 manf ..they would not take the $1 coupon!

Walgreens RR stink compared to CVS. I hate having to buy “filler” items and each store has their own policy so you never know what to expect. I think it would be great if you did the life of a coupon video for each store and showed them how they benefit from taking coupons. I also think each store should see the comments posted by shoppers and a list of valid “complaints” to each one from your readers. Most of us have the exact same problems at the same stores. (Walgreens-RR, item limits) (Walmart- internet coupons and usage) (Target- travel sizes & B!G1). I had a CSM of another store tell me it is coupon fraud and illegal to adjust coupons down because the retailers get back the full value of coupons…..

    TARGET, TARGET, TARGET!!!
(I think ALL the stores should clarify the issues below)

****They need CONSISTENCY! Cashiers need to be informed that you CAN combine a Target + Manuf for 1 item. If a coupons states “ANY SIZE” or doesn’t specify a size you SHOULD be able to use it on a travel size! <—Big one!

These items NEED to be specified in tTarget's "coupon policy"!
    1. If Target has a Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale- Can you use a B1G1 Manufacturer or Store B1G1 coupon? ( Like other stores ex. Rite Aid)
    2. If Target has a Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale- can you use 2 coupons (1 for each item)?
    3. Can you use a Target B1G1 coupon with a Manufacturer B1G1 for 2 items?
    4. How many of the same coupon can you use? If I have 10 of the same coupons- can I use all 10 in 1 transaction?
    5. What happens when a coupon beeps, but you have the CORRECT item & size specified (if size is indicated)? Will they take the coupon?
    6. Gift Card promotion AND Price Matching WITH coupons- If you price match an item to a competiters ad are you still eligeable for Targets gift card promotion? Are you able to use coupons on the price matching items?
    7. Start price matching at the check out lanes instead of customer service!!! =)

I know there are a TON more issues I have run across!

THANK YOU COLLIN for ALL of your hard work! We will ALL appreciate stores clarifying there coupon policies!!! Thanks again! 😛

Walgreens always gives me problems when using multiple coupons sometimes they tell me my balance is too low it wont take your coupon but then on my next transaction the bal is a few cents and it takes them?? Then I also add filler items same number items as coupons and it wont take their RR b/c its considered a manufactor coupon and I am already using one on my item, I think these need to be Walgreens bucks just like at CVS! Since they tell you these are just like cash well it doesnt work that way….

  5. Carrie

I cose Walgreens, because they don’t even have a written coupon policy. They need one so all their cashiers and managers will handle coupons somewhat the same.

  6. Jamie

Target 100% (maybe because I already boycott Walgreens) they have terrible consistancy, the coupons never match up to the items when the cashiers scan them and almost every time I go there the cashiers “miss” scanning some of my coupons. And their customer service in store, online and over the phone need significant improvement.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I don’t like how Target’s receipts are with coupons – if you use a Target coupon on an item on the receipt it automatically lowers the price of the item but does not show that a coupon was used. If something was $2.99 and you used a $1.00 Target coupon the price on the receipt will be $1.99 with no indication of a coupon being used. It is hard to keep track of your savings and if every coupon got properly scanned. It is easy to have your coupon count and $ count before you are rung up but with Target’s receipts it can be difficult to keep track. And if there was a problem – it would be hard to get your coupons back.

Walgreens informed me they no longer accept “printed” coupons! I tried to use the recently posted “Nivea” coupon and I was told I coudln’t use it. With so many websites on the internet to print coupons, having a policy to “not accept” these coupons is not customer friendly! I will think twice before going to Walgreens.

I had one Walgreens do this to me too. I talked to the manager and he said it was just their store since they were having problems with fradulent (photocopied) internet coupons. The next Walgreens down the street doesn’t have that policy, so I just don’t go to that one any more.

After reading other couponers’ comments on here (from across the country, I feel pretty lucky! I didn’t cast a vote, as I’ve had zero problems with the stores I shop.

However, the one constant negative I hear from people here is that coupon policies at each of these stores vary from region to region. For example, Target in Seattle, WA might accept stacking, but in Buffalo, NY it doesn’t…even though the “National Policy” is to accept. I would say that for any of the stores listed in the poll, they should be asked to train employees (or at the very least managers) in the national coupon policy. If any of these stores do not have a national policy, they should definitely add one and ensure that all personnel are aware of them. It makes no sense that I can shop one way at Walmart in say, Waco, TX, but then I have to change my strategy at the one in Cleveland, OH! These are national stores, they should function as such!

WALGREENS! The RR’s expire WAY TOO FAST!!! The FILLER ITEMS drive me NUTS. The cashiers seem soooo CLUELESS about coupons!!!

  10. Alyssa

Walgreens for me too. When I shop there I just dread the potential conflict that awaits me. I think that due to them not having a actual coupon policy store wide that it leaves them with very confused employees. Did anyone else see the Saturday Night Live where the news cast was speaking with “the devil”. He was listing out his job description and training Walgreens employees was one of them. I had to laugh.

  11. Deanna

Walgreens is my top pick. They have the most confusing “policy”. It seems all the stores and cashiers do it different. They need a national policy and they need to train all their employees on it.

  12. Carey

Target for sure! The employees no NOTHING about coupons. AHHHH! Even the CSM kept telling me she was GIVING this deal to me. I get beeped there all the time. I only go for the very best deals anymore.

  13. Carey

oops they KNOW nothing–apparently like me. 🙂

  14. Tresa Beardslee

Definately Target. The employees don’t really know the policies. They don’t even know their sales. I could go on and on, but it’s the same ole same ole. They act like we are doing something wrong when we save a lot of $$ using coupons. The store get’s the $$ so why the grumpy faces??

I’ve had one positive experience using coupons & that was at Dollar General. The cashier said “basically you got all that for free, sweet!” She was so excited for me. It was sure nice for a change.

  15. Lauren

WALGREENS !!! Great sales and some stores as well as managers are great about coupons. Others however aren’t. Ill informed cashiers, calling a manager about coupon questions, both cashiers and managers not knowing their own company policy as well as sometimes not being nice when they are wrong. I have repeatedly emailed and called Walgreens about their need to have a written consistent policy and training for their store staff about coupons.

  16. AMANDA DUNN

MYSELF I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS AT TARGET SURPRISE SURPRISE OR WALGREENS BUT I DO HATE RR AND HAVING TO HAVE EXTRA ITEMS TO USE ALL YOUR COUPONS,
MY BIGGEST STORE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN AT WALMART AND COME ON ALREADY I WOULD LOVE IT IF THEY WOULD DOUBLE. BUT THEY WILL PRICE MATCH BUT COULD YOU IMAGINE PRICE MATCHING 100 ITEMS AND THEN COUPONS “IT’S NOT HAPPENING”

  17. Salina Woods

I do have the issue of my coupons beeping at Target but that is only if the coupon is more than the product; they just override it and move on. My biggest complaint is Walmart, of course. I can’t stand the 30 coupon limit per transaction; they limit you on the amount you can save but not on the amount you can spend?

  18. Joy

Rite Aide is the best! They have a great written policy and know it. I’ve BOYCOTTED Walmart- I will never attempt to use coupons there again. I’ve given it so many chances. Ugh! They HATE couponers!

    • megan

ME TOO!!!! They’re going to have to do better than a $5 gift card to get me back. I hate that freaking store.

  19. Joy

Collin- I think you should send the poll to all the stores mentioned- I would think it would help them all. 🙂

  20. Sarah

Walgreens, by far!! I don’t shop there anymore because I have had such bad experiences in the past (many bad experiences, not just one). I love, love Rite Aid and I have never had a problem in their stores.

  21. Nancy L.

Unfortunately, Target & Walgreen’s are a dead-even tie for me. I detest their treatment of couponers. They’re both clueless as to their own couponing policies and look down their nose at couponers. Wish everyone was as nice as CVS & Publix.

  22. megan

    So who “won”? LOL

  23. Ashley

My coupon troubles have always been at Wal-Mart. I’ve never had trouble with Walgreen and don’t live near a Target so I don’t have any experience with them. In my experience Wal-Mart cashiers are not friendly or easy to work with on the coupons. They always seem annoyed with me. I do love their price matching but hate that they don’t have instore coupons or any type of rewards program. And they won’t match a bogo free sale or a bogo 50% off sale at another store. If you are going to price match, then do it 100% of the time.
