   FYI, it appears you can only use the code once. I sent a gift to my sister-in-law, and when I tried to order an additional item for myself, the code was no good. Glad I ordered hers first! 🙂 Just a heads up. Thanks for an inexpensive way to brighten my sister’s day, Collin!!

   I just wanted to say that I have purchased several items from Ten Thousand Villages and I am always so pleased with everything I buy! It is my “go to” place for gifts. I love the idea of being able to bless not only the person who I am buying for, but the wonderful people who handmake these items.

   I ordered from this site the last time Collin provided a free shipping code. I am greatly impressed with the quality and the company is fair trade. I would note for people interested in the glass bead necklace,: it is fairly heavy for a necklace. Otherwise, great deals.

    The very BEST part about Ten Thousand Villages is that by purchasing you are supporting artisans in third-world countries and helping them to support their families. Ten Thousand Villages began as a self-help ministry of the American Mennonite Church, and ALL proceeds over import duties were originally returned to the artisan. I think that’s still the basic idea, although they support Fair Trade now as well & I think B&M stores are allowed to retain enough to pay rent/utilities/basic costs & other denominations/organizations than just the Mennonite Church have become involved. Beautifully hand-made items, and an honorable alterative to slavery or starvation for women and children all over the world. And now free shipping too. Win-win!

  I’m wondering if we’re “underselling” these people, for lack of a better term. Are the artists in particular and the business in general really not taking a hit offering 75% off their hand-made works of art? While footing the shipping cost, no less? I’m not asking in order to start some heavy discussion (although that would be okay too), I just figure a place like Kohl’s department store, for example, can take a loss to clearance out last season’s inventory, but with a business such as Ten Thousand Villages, I feel like I ought to throw in something full price sometime. I guess I just want some reassurance that I can feel thoroughly good about my purchase, even at such amazingly low prices with free shipping.

  Whenever items are on sale/clearance, artists are still paid in full. (I have a store in my town, so I always see this sign.)

    Collin, thanks! I got a dragon box for my husband’s desk for $5, a handmade backgammon game for my daughter’s teacher for $12 (down from $40), and a chenille shawl ($14) and some earrings ($2.50) for my other daughter’s teacher.
    I had been wondering what to get them for year end gifts. This is great.

    Awesome. I got the glass bead organza necklace. My foster daughter’s favorite color is blue and I plan to give this to her when our adoption is finalized, as a gift. She’ll love it!
