    Toothbrush or paste?

    • sashagrace

My coupon says “Save $1.50 on any one Colgate Total Gum Defense Toothpaste.”

  2. ketsy

Ok so I was on the Target website trying to print coupons and it said to me
We’re sorry you have reached the limit of coupons you’re elegible to receive. 🙁
    What is that? lol

    • Carol_R

I think that the Target coupons have a 2 print per PC limit. Try another PC.

      • ketsy

Thank you. I do know they have 2 each. But its actually a different coupon and when I add them and click print this message shows up… as in I have reached my limit of coupons total. Unofrtunately my other pc is a dinosaur only for emergency super awesome coupons and it doesnt do the target website coupons (too modern for it I guess )lol

        • Carol_R

I’ve had issues when they may be removing a coupon but for some reason it’s still showing up. Also, some of the coupons aren’t Target coupons but manufacturer coupons and I’ve had instances where I could only get 1 print out of some of those.

  3. Carol_R

I passed on the toothpaste deal at Walgreens after I read the ingredients in Total. It contains triclosan which it considered by many to be dangerous and has been proved ineffective.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triclosan

    • Ap

Wikipedia is the site that anyone can edit, therefore I would not take its information as fact…not saying that whatever you are trying to warn about is not true, just that the documented source is not very accurate.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Just to let you know there are many different reports on the negative effects of triclosan (sp) all you have to do is google (or swagbuck it like I do) and a ton will show up

      • shoplessjess

How funny, I posted about the same issue. I had heard about triclosan from somewhere else, but wiki is just an easy place to collect info. Usually the articles have cited sources, unless they specifically say at the top that they need more information or that there are biased opinions in it. I think Wikipedia has actually been pretty successful in keeping its information accurate and up to date, with multiple sides of issues presented. I regularly use it when I have to find the correct spelling of a species of bacteria.

People can choose to use/eat what they want, with varying degrees of good and bad stuff in it. I think it is fine to raise a flag in case someone else has similar concerns but just didn’t know they applied to a specific item.

      • melissa

same, Wiki should be taken as gospel. Anyone can add/delete info. If you are that concerned, ask your dentist.

        • melissa

          *shouldn’t , not should LOL

        • Amanda

Are you guys serious? I interned at Wikipedia for 6 months. YES people CAN edit the pages but they are usually reversed or correct within a matter of minutes. Wikipedia is a great source for unbias general knowledge of a subject. In 6 months, only .18∞% of our articles had faulty information added to it (yes… we had to calculate it, i will never forgive Jeffrey for that week of frustration).

          • yangzi

That’s so cool you were an intern at Wikipedia! I LOVE Wikipedia. I trust the site for getting info quickly.

  4. shoplessjess

While this is a great deal, I am a little wary of the triclosan that is present in Colgate Total products. You can wikipedia it if you’re curious. I used to solely use Colgate Total for almost 10 years. Now I go for other brands of Colgate or Crest instead.

  5. Kyra

Okay so I’m not trying to be difficult about this but really just curious about buying from the all the drugstores. With the example above about the colgate paste, it states that you pay $3 and get 4 RR back. So it says you get 2 free toothpastes plus $1 money maker. My question is how can not that really be free when you are actually paying $3? I understand you are getting the rewards for buying them but technically those rewards arent going towards your purchase you just made but for your next purchase. I’m just trying to figure out if its even worth shopping at any of the drugstores.

    • Carol_R

You are effectively making money on this. You do have an OOP out of pocket cost but the register rewards are more than your out of pocket cost besides getting the product free you end up ahead. They key is to plan a 2nd transaction for a product you want that is a good deal & use the register rewards on that. Register rewards are always for future purchases. Break down what you want to buy into separate transactions to get the lowest OOP cost.

      • Kyra

I see it more of a moneymaker but not getting the products free. Paying OOP to me doesnt make it free but receiving RR to use on your next purchase to possibly get that item free would make more sense to me and worth my while.

    • megan

i roll my rewards week to week so i will be putting in a 4RR from a previous week so if you do that then it will be a money maker. otherwise it is a future money maker 😉

    • Russ

Well, I always use the example of milk. (all these numbers are hypothetical and for illustrative purposes only).

Let’s say you are out of milk.

Milk costs $4 per gallon at Walgreens.

You grab 4 $1 bills from your wallet, stick them in your pocket, and head to Walgreens to buy the milk you need. You expect that when you get home you will have 1 gallon of milk, and zero dollars in your pocket.

When you get to Walgreen’s, instead of buying the milk, you buy 2 tubes of Colgate Gum Defense toothpaste which cost $6. You give the cashier 2 $1.50 coupons. The cashier now says you owe $3. You hand over 3 of the $1 bills you have in your pocket. The cashier hands you your receipt, and a Register Rewards coupon for $4 off your next purchase.

You now have 2 tubes of toothpaste, but no milk.

So, you go over to the refrigerated section of the store, pick up your gallon of milk and use the $4 RR you just earned to pay for it.

Now you walk out of the store with 2 tubes of toothpaste, 1 gallon of milk, and $1 in your pocket.

Not too shabby for only going to pick up a gallon of milk at the store!

      • megan

wouldn’t that be 2 tubes of toothpaste and a gallon of milk and no $1. 🙂

        • Russ

Nope. You would still have $1.

You paid $3 for the toothpaste, and got back the $4RR, which you used to buy the milk.

        • melissa

You start off with $4, but only give the cashier $3 to pay for the toothpaste, then in turn use the RR for the milk.

          • megan

hehe. good call. math fail on my part. 🙂 that’s why i always bring a calculator.

        • jennifer

No because she only paid $3. of the $4. dollars that was in her pocket.

      • Natalia

Tried that. Great idea but you can’t use the register rewards on dairy products. I stopped going so much to Walgreens because of all their complicated policies just to redeem your RRs. CVS is better at that.

        • Russ

Ugh, I was waiting for someone to nitpick the example to death.

          You still get the idea.

Substitute ‘milk’ for ‘cereal’, or ‘aspirin’, or ‘toilet paper’, or ‘soap’, or ‘lotion’, or ‘bottled water’, or ‘anything you would otherwise buy’.

          • jennifer

I got the idea Russ, thank you.

          • Ashley

hmmmmm you broke it down quite nicely 🙂 thanks..I actually never thought if it that way, I just roll my rewards lol (or use them to uy things I need but ya know)

        • Russ

And, btw, CVS has complicating restrictions of its own – you can’t use ECBs someone else gives you, you can only do the deals once per week because it’s all tied to your ExtraCare card, you can’t use Magic Coupon Machines that weren’t generated from your card, etc.

I wish there was a way to take the best of the CVS, RiteAid and Walgreens programs! Then I’d be a *very* happy camper! 😀

      • Melissa

That is quite possibly the best explanation I have ever heard regarding the benefits of drug store shopping. I am literally going to copy/paste it and email to my sister, who I am trying to convert to couponing… 🙂 How could anyone NOT coupon after reading that?!

      • jmartcougar

Too bad I can’t use my RR on milk though lol

      • hotmomcoupon

OMG Russ, you are a GENIUS,
I never looked at it like this although I roll my reward
Wow wow wow, I am going to walgreens tonight to get those toopastes, and get a pack of Dasani water $3.99 with my reward.

BTW, I don’t understand why are people so picky about the technicalities of rewards.
All we need to know is we walk in a store, we buy for $4, get the merchandise and still get out of the store with $4 whether in reward or money? What’s the difference, you get to use it on the spot or the next time…

Anyway, Thank you Russ, you are the “bombdiggiddy” 🙂

        • Russ

          Thanks!

The ‘rolling’ of rewards is just the advanced version of what I wrote above. But what I wrote above is the simple explanation that I give to friends and family who are skeptical and who think that couponing is just a gimmick to get you to buy things you don’t really need. While you can easily get tempted to buy things you don’t need just because you are caught up in the savings game, you can save some serious cash if you play your cards right.

In the month of July, I purchased just over $1,000 worth of products, and spent $179 for it all. And July was a stock-up month for me, so I won’t need to spend *nearly* that much for the next 6-12 months!

          • Laura

So you saved 82% in July. But to truly see how it is beneficial, you need to disregard the stuff you purchased that you wouldn’t purchase anyway (like the toothpastes in the example, if for some reason you don’t use that brand but buy them anyway because you end up a head). When I track my purchases each week/month, I tally both the total product that I purchased as well as the total product purchased that I actually will use. That way I can see both savings rates.

My problem with your milk example is that the regular price at drugstores is often inflated compared to what you could get at a larger grocery store. I almost never purchase something that isn’t on sale (or has a RR, ECB, etc) at a drugstore because I could take my coupons over to Meijer and get a better deal on the product. ONLY in the case of expiring register rewards will I purchase something not on sale….

      • Lina

Great way to break it all down!! That is exactly how I feel about the gas card scenarios! Regardless of what I do, at the end of the day I have to put gas in my car. So why not get some cheap stuff while I am at it?? LOL that’s how I tend to justify my spending!

      • Rebecacha

        Great example! 🙂

      • Deborah Jarmula

That was great you explained that so well ,Nice job !!

    • melissa

I never count my initial rewards on my first purchase, just when I redeem them. Otherwise I feel like I am counting the reward twice (on the initial purchase then when I use them). So if I pay $3 OOP, and get $4 RR, its not a MM for me. All I did was covert $3 of the $4 from cash to store credit. If I have previous RR to use towards the deal (called ‘rolling’), say $1 or $2 RR, THEN it becomes a MM b/c I have converted a small RR into a larger RR, with the help of using manuf q’s. Thats just the way I think.

      • Russ

Your way of counting your RRs probably makes the most sense, because of the possibility of losing an RR or having it expire before you use it.

I tend to count them when they are earned, since I have no intention of ever letting them expire, but I am sure not to ever double count them.

      • ketsy

I feel like Im taking a math test .LOL 😀 It is 2 toothpastes, a gallon of milk and $1 in your pocket… because she left home eith $4 for the milk not $3 for the toothpaste. Then again if this is a trivia question… I would say 2 toothpaste a gallon of milk and 76 cents conidering 6% tax here in Florida… she would have paid 24 cents on the beofre coupon toothpaste price…. lol 😀

        • Russ

          Still making money! 😀

          • Katie

I can use RR and ECB on milk 😀

            • Rebecacha

You guys are hilarious! While I am reading all these everyone else printed the Colgate coupon and I miss it, LOL 🙂

  6. jill

I love Colgate total, and what is good for anyone anymore.

  7. Kyra

Thank you everyone for using examples to better explain everything.

  8. brenda

sometime i wonder the same thing Krya, but now you have $4rr to spend on something else, and made a dollar doing it, plus free toothpaste..I feel the same way Krya, but it all works out in the end…Happy Shopping.,,,PS plus Collin wouldnt steers us the wrong way!!! RIGHT COLLIN….

  9. jackie

Could someone PLEASE tell me where the coupon printout link is. I even registered for the site but don’t see the print coupon option. Thank you.

    • Melissa

It’s about halfway down the page. Under the picture of the woman, it says “Colgate Total Gum Defense,” followed by a paragraph about gingivitis. The coupon link is directly under that paragraph.

      • jackie

Awwww you’re such a SWEETIE Melissa. TYSVM. I found it!

        • Melissa

I’m so glad I was able to help! 🙂

  10. Rebecca

    I bought mine today and I did not recieve a $4RR 🙁

    • Liz

      Hey Rebecca,
Did you purchase two? You need to purchase 2/$6 in order for it to spit out the $4 RR. If you purchased two and it did not, you should ask your Walgreens for a mail in RR form. Walgreens should mail you your $4RR in a few weeks.

  11. Anne

When I went to my local WAG, the RR would not print out for the toothpaste! And I was in there for the Expo Markers deal too but they wouldnt take the 2nd coupon as “it cant be adjusted” and I told the Asst.Manager she can adjust it to $1.98 but she wouldnt because she said that the manufacter would reiumberse them $2 and not $1.98 and she didnt want to do it.

As for the RR not printing out, she ending up just giving me $4 cash. So overall 2 2packs of Expo Markers+2 Toothpastes=FREE.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

thats great next time just ask for a manager.. i tend to stay away from wags just for this reason mine was getting so snippy with coupons but when I see a deal i tend to go for it..

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

that was my first time at wags 😀 (yep coupon newbie)

  12. Cheryl Mortensen

I just went to my Walgreens and it didn’t have a RR on the toothpaste nor was it 3/$6. I tried looking in their ad and I couldn’t see it anywhere in there either.. 🙁 I’m I just blind?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

its there well im in mass and it worked

    • Anne

Maybe its in the back of the ad? It says Colgate Dental Care on the back?

      • Cheryl Mortensen

Thanks! I found it in the ad now! Darn, missed that one.

  13. Jeannie

This deal worked for me in North Eastern CT… my only problem was reaching the toothpaste – it was on the TOP shelf! *hehe* other than that…. GREAT deal and I got my $RR!!

  14. jackie

If anybody’s still reading this, got an OT about Walgreens. Anyone find the Gillette Gift pack at their local store for 9.99 and if so, did the $4 coupon work on it? Thanks.

    • Lori G

I found the gift pack, the $4 coupon worked, but it did NOT produce the RR…returned it and bought just the razor.

  15. Sarah

    🙁 no prints available

  16. Jenna

    no more prints 🙁

  17. Shannon B.

    Out of prints 🙁

  18. Lynne Wright

Please keep in mind that you are not supposed to eat toothpaste…lol

    • stacy

but i can still roll around in all that toliet paper

  19. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    They are out of coupons

  20. alina

  21. lesley

  22. Dee
