I highly recommend getting a Chromebook instead! They start out at $200, never slow down because there is no hard drive, and since there is no hard drive there is no chance of getting computer viruses.
You do have to have a Google account and wi-fi.
This is wrong information. A Chromebook does have a hard drive without it the OS wouldn’t be stored anywhere, it wouldn’t turn on.
Having a hard drive doesn’t mean you’ll get a virus. Anything, even Macs, can get one.
A Chromebook is designed to be used via Google Clouds and be connected to the Internet at all times. It has little room to download software, its hard drive capacity is smaller than a traditional laptop. Even though your data is saved in a Cloud, you could be phished. Also Google’s servers could get a virus. A Chromebook is not automatically exempt from safety issues.
Google actually states antivirus is built into Chromebooks.
Okay – it has a hard drive for the OS, but not one for the user’s data, which would be the one to cause problems like on a regular laptop or pc. You don’t need to download any software to it – it’s good for 99-percent of the population that wants/need something to browse the internet, read their mail and create/view some office documents.
OS automatically updates, user only needs to restart the Chromebook… how long does that take? Less than 10-SECONDS! From opening up my Chromebook, logging in, and browsing the internet takes all of 5 seconds.
I’ve had my Samsung Chromebook for 3 years, still running super-fast, no problems and $249 well-spent. I sold off all of our family desktop pc’s, except for one; our family of five all have Chromebooks. It doesn’t replace a desktop pc, but it sure has drastically decreased tech problems to almost nothing!
Chromebooks do *not* have to be connected to the internet at all times. You can use Google Docs (Drive) offline.
Don’t confuse phishing with malware… phishing has nothing to do with laptops or pc’s – it’s the user that falls for giving up their personal info.
It’s great you’re happy with it.
The original statement seemed to say get a Chromebook you’ll never have an issue. Yes, the idea is to limit issues. Was just trying to generally enlighten.
Yes, you can use it offline when needed and the Drive. The hard drive helps with accessing documents offline also.
I’m not confusing phishing with maleware. My tech knowledge is far from the ‘typical’ user’s.
I have this mac book. It’s great, but remember to install an antivirus. I was told I dont need one and I got one, a bad one, had to spend a long time with an apple technician on the phone before I could use my mac again. PS I dont go on any bad sites, so where did I get it from, I dunno, but all I know, mac owners needs antivir.
For what it’s worth. Programs you install and use on a Mac are relatively self-contained. Hence, no registry like Windows. This makes it near impossible and certainly not worth a hacker’s time to try to write viruses for OS X. They simply can’t make a virus spread throughout your system and have an impact like they can on a Windows machine. This is why most people don’t use anti-virus programs on a Mac.
A MacBook would be a lot more beneficial and practical for a college student or a person who needs a elegant and easy to use machine versus a chrome book, I have a MacBook and I love it! No viruses or anything! Keep in mind MacBooks last longer than a windows laptop or a chrome book.
mine was 2 months old when it got a bad virus. Thanks to people like you, telling other people that they dont need and antivirus, I didnt install one, and virus had a nice access to my mac book. Please don’t spread misinformation.
Monika, don’t blame Tiffany. I have a iMac as does my son. No anti virus on either machine. No problem.
This is a personal choice for every computer owner. With everything, speak to an apple rep for advise if needed.
Ive had my MacBook pro for over 5 years now and have never gotten a virus…and I too do not have an Antivirus program. You just need to be cautious of what emails you open and which websites you visit. No need to accuse other users of spreading “misinformation.” Its a personal choice. 🙂
It is spreading misinformation. You should have an Antivirus installed. Not having it is just silly. So what if you didn’t get a virus for 5 years, you might get one next month and you’re computer might be done with because of skipping a simple step of installing a free antivirus program.
Yes, they do! Our family will NEVER go back to a PC. Love 
10 years a Mac owner and not one virus. 🙂
Love my mac book!! Will never go back to PC either!!
Anyone when this offer is until? I tired calling my local store by no one answered.
In my email it said a 4 day deal, but I don’t know if that will run out. They still have another Air 13.3 marked to 899.99.
5 years of macbook pro …no virus!!!!
Got one for my daughter who’s graduating from high school! And I used the student coupon for an extra $50 off. Thanks, Collin.
