Thank you Collin! I bought a super clearance costume last year after Halloween but decided against it for this year now I know what to do with it.
You’re welcome!
Just out of curiosity, has anyone been successful at making money on eBay?
I’ve been able to make money back on things sitting around the house I’ve never used. But I wouldn’t do ebay as a source of income. There are so many fees etc
I’ve made money comparable to about a 10-15 hour/week job, but you have to put the work in. Also, it can be very touch-and-go; some weeks I’ll make hundreds of dollars, other’s, literally zero. Add in jerky customers (“It’s been 2 days since I’ve won–why isn’t my item here?”), packaging items, and fees and it can be a real bummer. Like the above person said: It’s better as a hobby/generator of random pocket money than a reliable income for most people, I think.
I wouldn’t recommend buying things to sell on eBay. It can be time consuming, a big hassle and the fees are high. On the other hand, I will sell things we have around the house for some extra cash (for example my sons Skechers that he outgrew after only wearing them briefly). Hope this helps.
I use eBay to sell things that I’m ready to get rid of. However it’s not like I’m making money. It’s better than I would get at a garage sale or from places like thredup. eBay takes 10% of the sale price & shipping. If you upgrade your listing there are fees. You may also be charged an insertion fee. Then there are PayPal fees which also take a percentage. Then you have all your shipping supplies (bags, tape, paper, ink, tissue paper etc.). It’s a lot of work. You’d really have to be getting your items at rock bottom prices to make it work. Occasionally you get lucky and will have a couple of bidders battle each other but that’s not as often.
Of course it is what you put into it. It’s a trial and error thing.
I wouldn’t use eBay as a source of income. Between eBay and Paypal, they take around 13% of your sale and that’s without putting in your shipping cost and time. It can be a hassle. Some customers can also discredit you quickly and even cheat you putting you at a loss that you may have to bite. Anyhow, eBay is not for everyone. It honestly depends on how much you value your time and how you fell about selling certain items.
I’ve made temporary money on hot toys or items (such as when the Frozen came by) or clearance items that I happen to grab. Again, this may be frowned upon others who feel you are price gouging or whatever it is they call it nowadays. It’s also a tough market as many companies are shipping from China for super cheap and people are buying into these. Anyhow, it’s great to explore. I’d give it a shot but don’t quit your job to do this.
Ebay sucks. Buyers can scam sellers out of anything claiming it wasn’t just so. It can even be a shirt you sold them that doesn’t fit and they can get their money back. No seller protection whatsoever. I was a 12 year seller with 100% feedback but this last year I’ve had 15 open cases just because people simply changed their mind
Yes!! I’ve been selling since 2008, and have had the same issues lately… EBay needs to come up with a policy to better protect their sellers!!
I prefer Mercari. There is less specialization so you can’t sell the weirder stuff like you can on Ebay. BUT there are NO fees. It is really a great way to get rid of stuff and make easy money. I use paypal.com/shipnow to buy my shipping labels as you can charge the customer less money or the same and pocket more.
I have several things I do to be able to be a stay at home mom and being a power seller on eBay is one of them (out of 4) We make money but it’s not enough on its own. And it’s a lot of work. Customer service isn’t always fun 🙂
If you don’t mind me asking, what else is it that you do to make money? I am a stay at home mom as well and am looking to bring in some income.
Omg I just put 6 costumes on there earlier today. I’ll have to look into this!
Just end one of the auctions, and realist it after activating this offer. Hth! 😊
I love selling on eBay but is anyone tried selling on Yerdle?? It’s super easy to sell things around your house you don’t want, right from your smart phone. If you sign up under my link you’ll get a free $35 credit AND free shipping on your first purchase!! 😘 https://yerdle.com/i/scoober-flub
I use Yerdle a lot but they are even doing service fees added to shipping starting in October. When sell on there you are not getting money but Yerdle credit that you can only use on their site. It is fine for getting small things cheap but does not help if you are looking to make extra cash selling because you are just giving your stuff up for site credit.
