Six Flags Read to Succeed: FREE Ticket when Your Child Reads (Valid for Homeschoolers Too)
If you live near a Six Flags or you plan to visit one next year AND you have kiddos in Kindergarten through 6th grade, check out the Six Flags Read to Succeed Program! This program is available to teachers and schools at no cost to participate (including homeschoolers!), and it provides a great way to motivate kids to read as students who complete six hours of recreational reading earn a free ticket to Six Flags!
Note that your school MUST be registered in order for you to participate AND your child’s classroom teacher will actually need to log student’s reading hours. If your school/teacher is not signed up, be sure to send them a link to this post! Also note that in past years, the free ticket has only been valid to use during the summer months.

I sure wish they’d do this for all the “plugged in teens” too. Often younger children must read for 1/2 hour and the parent signs off. My kids consider it punishment if I make them unplug & read. Very sad. PLUS- teens often have their own $ to spend at theme parks. I think it’d pay off big time for the park. JMHO

I’m sorry to hear reading can be considered as a punishment! As parents we have to start at a very early age to engage kids into reading. I used to read to my kids every night from babies until first grade! Our family never had enough money to buy the latest gadgets like tablets,
I phones, well we didn’t even own a computer at that time (2005). The little money I had was happily expended on books! Then again every child is different! I now have one book worm 🙂 and one that reads less, but it pays off academically. I never pushed my last child for the same reason you mentioned, to not create the feeling of punishment. We kept all our books in very good condition and recently at my job want us to donate new or gently used books to a school, well I donate a lot and give some of them to a good friend, she could not believe the good condition the books were on! I will donate the rest to a nearby elementary! What really makes me happy out of this reading situation was to hear my now HS teens thank me the other day for all the nights I read to them and the sacrifices made in order to buy books! To all young mothers please read to your children it really makes a big diference! 10 to 20 minutes of your time that’s all it takes!

My kiddos love tablets ipods and gaming etc… AND love reading too. My husband hated reading when he was young, but i liked it. I think its just the differences in people. Probably not anything a parent is or isn’t doing. 🙂
We do this every year as a homeschool family. Then I have to only buy the two teenagers tickets.
This is my first year I’m so excited to be able to take my daughter and have this amazing reward.

It won’t let me sign up unless I am the coordinator of the program or are a school representative. I guess I need to see if my school is tracking their hours? I have 3 in elementary school. This would have been perfect. 🙁
If you sign up as “coordinator,” it doesn’t entail all that much. They will communicate to you directly if there is anyone else from your school interested, but once it is time to send out the tickets they will go to respective teachers. I have been this role at my school for the last few years, simply because I was the first to sign in!
My 1st grader brought one of the forms home from school about a month ago. He’s pumped about earning the ticket (will be his first trip to 6 flags) & reminds me every day that he needs to read. 🙂
I remember doing this program when I was a kid. Every school year, I would complete my required reading log entries and had my mom sign off on it. Every summer, my mom would take my brother and I to six flags because of this program 🙂
