I attempted to do some of these today at Staples, but didn’t have the greatest luck. They didn’t give me the 110% until I asked for it (and he made sure to let me know he’d have to delete all the items and start over, as if to get me to say nevermind); then, they couldn’t do the 110% on the markers or glue– the computer wasn’t letting them. I did get it on the pencils and glue sticks, as well as the 32gb flash drive (which was a really good deal because theirs was $27.99) . They also told me the “extra comfort” pens were different than the ones on sale at Office Max/Depot because the box in the ad didn’t say “extra comfort”. So they wouldn’t allow me to do that one.
The same thing happened to me. I took the sales paper to Walmart and they matched most of the items I wanted. Today is Walmart’s last day matching prices.

I’m not sure if anyone else has had problems with price matching this year but I have the last few weeks… It seems that it depends store to store if staples will price match the penny back to school deals from Office Depot on the name brand items. I just let it go opposed to making a big deal of it but I really wish they would make decision and implement it throughout all of their stores.

My staples in riverbank CA wouldn’t do it at all either last week.
Will they price match the 1 cent items even though at Office Depot they are with a $5 purchase?
Do you have to have a physical ad or can you use the online ad?

I did a lot of school supplies shopping yesterday. Not sure they will price match or no😁
I did not get 110% on markers, glue, or pens. The pencils rang up automatically at 110% price match. I don’t argue over it because they never put a limit on how many I can purchase.
I tried to do the school supply deals for two weeks. Staples and Office Depot/max never had anything in stock and I went in several times. I’d go and they’d have like one ruler and that was it! I just gave up and ordered supplies online at Target and went to the dollar general. I may have spent more but it was becoming too much of a hassle. It was actually a relief to be able to get everything I needed without have to search everywhere. If you got the great deals though you were all very lucky:)
I had same problem 2nd week at office depot penny deals but I asked a person who works there and they gave me items to replace the one they didnt have not bad at all. And then these past few weeks i have been lucky to find everything in stock. Try to ask and let them know you have came before and no luck they might give you other items for that price.
Ditto. I got tired of never finding anything in stock and wasting time & gas $. The few dollars I would have saved, I would end up wasting in gas so I just stocked up at my local Walmart.
My Staples in Annapolis, Maryland has been great about 110% price matching. Although, for some reason, the markers PM at 100%, not 110%.
I have never had them honor the 110% price match guarantee. I’m a teacher and buy my students supplies, so that mean 25-30+ of each supply. They will allow you to do transactions of up to 30 or even more. I go straight to Staples with my Office Depot ad to get Office Depot prices 🙂 without the finagling!!
Great luck with stock at Office Depot today. The Staples I went to would only price match one thing though?? I decided to do the markers, but didn’t even ask about the 110 percent because I was so surprised I could only match one thing.
That’s like target ..they can price match, but ONLY one item at that price…and no coupons allowed on top of it. Grrr
At target ive always been able to price match and use manufactures coupons on top of it. You cant use target coupons or cartwheel on top of the price match, they calculate those out first and then match the price if its still higher but you should be able to use manufactures coupons regardless of whether you price match or not.
My staples won’t match items that have a limit
The management at two of the staples near me is horrible! They are rude and act like I’m putting them out for having them price match. I had bought some stuff and returned it because they were so rude to me. One store said they couldn’t price match back to school items while the other one did it with some eyes rolling the whole time. Staples needs to work on their customer service.
Just as a data point, the Staples in Decatur, AL wouldn’t price match to Office Depot. They said it was a management decision because the OD prices are only good for 3 days.
I left Staples very disappointed today. I was told that they couldn’t match the price of any promotional items which was every school supply item. I have done it there before. I went to Office Max instead
My Staples matched the markers,pencils, and pens but wouldn’ match the 1cent glue offer. Still it’s a great deal !!
My local staples wouldn’t price match the pencils or the pens stating it wasn’t the same item even though it was just different packaging. My office max of course had nothing in stock.
After reading these comments, amazon is looking better and better. 😉
I tried price matching the Crayola Broad Line 10 pack markers and the Bic pens at Staples but they wouldn’t let me because they were “Special Items”. I called customer service and they told me the same thing. I didn’t think that would happen!
I called 1800-333-3330 to do the price match. Rep over the phone said they couldn’t do it because it was a special sale. I asked to speak to a supervisor and I explained that it was a weekly sale, not a “special sale”. After some research, she told me that I was correct and price matched those items, not the penny deals though. And because I am a rewards member, I got free shipping.
I was also told they don’t honor “these ads” as they are like black Friday ads. I just got done chatting with staples online and that was a waste of time as they said I have to just contact the store. They need to update their price match policy online if they’re not going to include these type of sales.
