Just a heads up that this product has some kinks. We had this same monitor with my first baby and it regularly set off false alarms. My husband and I would wake up and go flying into our daughters room to find her sleeping safe and sound yet the monitor was going off indicating that she wasn’t breathing. We ended up disconnecting the sensor pad and using as a sound only monitor until we invested in a nice quality video monitor. Seriously, video is the way to go!
What video monitor did you end up getting? I’m looking for a good one. I know their expensive but I want to upgrade my sound one.. especially because we have another baby on the way 🙂
We had the same problem. Always went off multiple times a night. I ended up playing around with it and found a spot where it didn’t go off as much, but I lost a lot of sleep with false alarms.
I used ours for 5 years over two babies. After delivering my first son stillborn at full term, I wasn’t able to sleep or function because of fear that my newborns would stop breathing. It’s an irrational fear, but one that I couldn’t shake having experienced child loss.
It does give false alarms when kids roll to the sides of the crib, BUT, I would highly recommend this IF you call and pay $28 (shipped) to get an extra sensor pad (that will plus in to your monitor and the single sensor pad will be removed…they attach to one cord and one plug in). I called the Number on the back of the product and they helped me with no issues. Best customer service. With my son and single sensor pad we had many false alarms. With my daughter and double sensor pad upgrade, we had NO FALSE alarms.
I would definitely recommend this for peace of mind as long as it’s used properly (thin wood slab under crib mattress to put sensor pads atop.
We also had a Dropcam (now nest).
Just wanted to say I’m so sorry for the loss of your son.
This is an amazing tip and I had no idea they could even do that! I never lost a baby and cannot even imagine your pain, but after working in law enforcement for multiple years and having to investigate multiple babies passing I also had an irrational fear with our son. Yes, false alarms will occur (although we haven’t had many) but I would have never been able to rest without it. Worth every penny and if my son was younger I’d definitely invest in the second sensor pad!
Best monitor ever! This thing is worth every penny! I finally was able to get a good night’s sleep once this was in use. I didn’t have to keep checking to see if my baby was breathing. Some people complain about false alarms, I only had one and it was easily fixed by adjusting the sensor pad under the mattress and changing the sensitivity of the monitor. This is a must have for me.
Thanks so much for the feedback Kate!
Got it for $34 with warehouse deals! Thanks! Plus I love Amazon! If I find something I like better before baby comes, I can send it back with no problems.
I used this when my boys were babies. I absolutely loved it!!!
How cool! Thanks for sharing Rachael!
Check out the Owlet Monitor 👍
I’ve used this monitor now for two kids and LOVE it. Seriously love love love it. We only had a false alarm once when my son was laying on his side smushed up to the edge of the crib. We adjusted the sensitivity a bit and never had another false alarm. I can not say enough amazing things about this monitor! Worth every single penny and this is a great price!
Thanks so much for sharing your experience Becky!
I just bought this for my friend for her baby shower. She is prone to depression and she’s already worried about SIDS. I hope this helps with her anxiety.
Aww, so glad you could grab this for her Kelle!
I just bought the one with the two monitors from Target for $30. Check there!
Thanks for the tip!!
I love angel car I have the newest one that is a video and sound! I’ve loved the big screen and the quality! I would highly recommend it.
Love this! Peace of mind. We had a few false alarms over three babies but mostly as the babies got older and started really rolling around in the crib. Small issue given the other nights of peaceful sleep knowing everything was fine.
I agree that the new owl foot monitor sounds appealing but the price difference may be a deal breaker for some. At this price, the Angel care is awesome!!!
I agree owlet is expensive and does not include any other part of a regular monitor (sound, video etc)
Used this for three babies…. Great product and we did not have too many false alarms…. Usually only when a baby was in the corner of the crib.
Love this! Still have it on my 5 year olds bed (uses it so he can talk to us) and it’s on my almost year olds bed. Can’t say enough good about it. It will alarm if the baby does wiggle far from the pad.
Love this monitor. Used for all 4 of my kiddos. Some false alarms but not too many if set up in right spot you just have to play with it and figure it out. Even with a false alarm it’s still worth the peace of mind that your babies are safe. I love the temperature setting on the monitor as well. I did also set up a video monitor.
Have used the 2 sensor pad AC system for 20m & only had 2 false alarms. Many reviews stated 2 sensor pads is better & lessens the chances of false alarms. False alarms didn’t really bother me, I’d rather be alerted for possible sids than not knowing at all. Id suggest watching the video on installation to make sure you install the system correctly, also I believe it requires a plywood board of a certain thickness which needs to be cut to the size of your crib & placed into the crib as a firm steady leveled base for the sensor pads to sit on. Lastly, there were some recalls on older models, you can easily order parts(safety part to weave cord through) for free via AC directly. The alarm is very loud, but surprisingly it never woke up baby. I also liked that the remote displayed the temp in baby’s room. We have a seperate higher quality cam for video monitoring.
I had the deluxe version with two pads and never had a false alarm. Best invention ever!
Sweet! Thanks for the great review!
I have the deluxe version with 2 pads, and it has been essential for me with both my babies. The sensitivity needs to be adjusted (there’s an adjustment knob) according to how deep of a sleeper your babe is, but once it’s adjusted, it should minimize the false alarms. We had a couple with our first baby and have had zero false alarms with baby 2 who is still using it at 14 months old now. I’ve heard that the version with 2 pads has less false alarms than the single pad version, simply because it covers the surface area better. Either way, the Angelcare monitor has been a serious anxiety reliever for a paranoid mom. I’ll never be without one on our crib with any more kids we may have in the future.
Had one for our daughter, loved the piece of mind it gave us. We lost three pregnancies in a year and were absolutely on egg shells when our baby arrived. This calmed us down a lot. You do need to test the sensitivity and play with it a bit. Also will need a piece of plywood to put it on if your crib only has the spring set up. With baby # 2 on the way I think we will upgrade to the double sensor pad as that will help with sensitivity. Only complaint is that the monitor displays started going bad after a year or so. Just the screen though, still would go off if needed.
Spend the extra and get the one with the two pads and when you place it under the mattress do not have them going straight offset them to help with any false alarms
We have used this monitor for our now one year old. Very few false alarms. We did the blanket trick to set the sensitivity.
When baby was 3 months old the alarm went off while we were all asleep. My husband and I ran to the crib ti find our daughter face dow. I grabbed her up quick and she took a big full of air. She was okay but I will not stop praising this monitor. I do believe it saved our little girls life that night.
