Happy Friday: Light Bulbs, Anyone?
Sent from reader, Ashley:
I started couponing and following Hip2save 5-6 years ago. It didn’t take long before I had a closet stock pile of toothpaste and shampoo and any other deals I could get my hands on. My husband has always been supportive of having free or cheap items but hadn’t been actively involved in acquiring them until today.
Today his big savings was on light bulbs. (Which good thing because we recently bought a house and almost every light kept burning out.) I thought he would buy a couple packs when he found them on clearance 90% off for $0.75 each. But he came home with 5 cases of energy efficient light bulbs. (There were ten more!) Seems he recognized a stock up price without my help! Thank you Hip2Save for teaching me how to find deals and now my husband can too!
HAPPY FRIDAY!
Do you have a funny, “Hip”, or unique photo to share?! Email us at happyfriday@hip2save.com. Every Friday, we post one photo, submitted by a Hip2Save reader, that gives us a glimpse into their frugal lifestyle or simply makes us smile. If your photo is published on Hip2Save, we’ll email you a $10 Amazon e-card!
Where did he find this deal?
I’m wondering the same!
Walgreens 🙂
Where are these light bulbs?
Please share your trick to finding these
FYI spiral light bulbs contain mercury and emit mercury vapors when on. If you ever break one , call poison control. LED’s are much safer
Wrong. Even if a broken bulb is left unattended for 24 hours, it will only release from 0.04 to 0.7 milligrams of mercury. It would take weeks for the amount of mercury vapor in the room to reach levels that would be hazardous to even a child. Please do your research before saying poison control would be needed
Thank you for clarifying for everyone.
You’re both right. They do contain mercury, and if cleaned up immediately shouldn’t be so hazardous that it becomes a matter for poison control. They should be recycled though, and Home Depot or lowes can do that for you.
These bulbs are becoming harder to find lately. Walmart didn’t have any the other day. Yeah that was surprising. I guess LEDs are the future.
Did he go to home depot and find the light bulbs? My husband just bought a bunch of led light bulbs from there on clearance. We are switching all our bulbs to led in the house and that was a major find.
Tell us where!!
Thankfully I got all of mine for FREE courtesy of Duke Energy. Just as I was moving to my new house, Duke sent to my old house AND I requested for my new house, that was back in 2010. Recently, they are giving them out again (6-12 bulbs) so they’re on shipment to me. If you’re a Duke Energy’s customer, check their website, login to your account. I got a large postcard for free bulbs notice, since I use e-bill. I have so many (only a couple needed replacement in the 7 yrs. we’ve used them). They’ll be pass down to my children/grandchildren at the rate I’m using them.
Plus these light bulbs last for about 7-10 years… lol at least he tried…
My energy saving lightbulbs burn out all the time. I live in a new house. My 50 year old house they did the same thing.
Same here, Amy. My CFLs burn out in probably 6 months. We go through them like crazy. I can’t understand why they don’t last :/
Our stockpile is running low. Looks like a run to walgreens and HD is in my future. Thanks for the tip
Good job!!
Good job hubs!
My Hubs is not actively involved in the day to day couponing/ deal stocking up ether, but if there is oil cheap after rebate, he is on it! I guess if it is in his wheelhouse, he is interested.
Our lightbulbs that are supposed to last years only last about a year too. It’s figured on using so many hours per day/year so it’s as inaccurate as mpg on new cars.
