We save SO MUCH MONEY on our electric bill with this bad boy! We live in the south, and (normally) have our home A/C set to 68 24/7. This guy pops our A/C up to 78 when we leave the house, and cools it back to 68 before we come home. Our average electric bill is $60 a month!
We love our nest too! The house we just moved into has one. We live in a 2 story in Houston and our bill hasn’t been over $115 so far this spring, which is a miracle for us. Husband works from home and I’m a stay at home mom, but it still keeps our bill down because we’re out of town quite a bit.
We got our first Nest when we lived in AZ and it literally paid for itself in 3 months. our bill went down $60 per month after the first month having it.
Love this thermostat! I bought it for this price for Black Friday two years ago and it’s very handy. I can control it from my phone and customize the settings how I want. I installed it myself and I’m no pro at DIY projects. Also, it sends me a monthly email telling me how many leaves I’ve collected for using my thermostat economically. Totally worth it in my opinion.
Omg we love our nest thermostat! Really let’s you be aware of how long ac runs all days looking at the history. Also can change the temperature just using your phone even when you’re not at home! It’s my favorite home item we purchased
How neat! Great to hear how well the Nest thermostat has worked in your home! Thanks for the great feedback!
We live in ski area in Colorado. We have in floor heat. Does anyone have experience with how this would work? It takes a while to warm the house with this heat so not sure it would be efficient to turn it down much during the day.
Thanks if anyone has any feedback.
Carol,
I am an hvac man. Depending on what type of in floor heating you have in your home depends on if the nest will work. If you have electric underfloor, it will not work. From what I have seen in the past with all nest thermostats, my personal opinion is to stay away from them. Just an FYI. If you are looking at getting something like it, I would suggest the ecobee3. From what I have seen, it would work for what you have (radiant heat)
Been using my Nest for over 3 years now. My gas bill went from $98 monthly to $72 monthly. I bought it for $199, so it paid for itself in about 8 months. Myself and 95% of the people on Amazon who own a Nest and gave it 4+ stars disagree with Jason.
Like I said just my opinion. Maybe they have changed the nest programming, however with the 1st-3rd generations they had a glitch in them. What I found is that they wouldn’t work with a common wire hooked up, however with the common wire hooked up sometimes on certain furnaces the nest would either keep blowing the fuse on the board or even fry the board itself. This is why I said I personally would stay away from it.
What Jason is saying is correct, Nest is aware of the problem that it wont work with older homes. Also people have had problems with it not turning off the furnace. I have had a Nest for 3 years, I live in a newer home and have not had any problems, touch wood. If you dont live in an older home, then try the Nest. Maybe the newer models dont have that issue.
we had ours in our very old home that was built in the 40’s and had no issues. it was especially useful b/c the home was not very energy efficient, so every opportunity for savings we could do while we upgraded things helped.
I received my nest thermostat for free from the electricity company. Even sweeter, I got a check in the mail for $50 for installing it myself. I would check with the electric company to see if they have any rebates going on, that’s how I found out about it. I live in MO btw.
Is this the best price? I’m not in a hurry to buy. Will there be better deals or options on black friday?
we’ve had nests for several years. here is my opinion, if a person is waiting for a better price, and maybe waits 2 months for price to drop another $15 or something, maybe it would be wiser to just buy and install it sooner and not wait for the next sale.
with the winter months coming (depending on how cold it gets where you live) you could probably save more money by just getting it and installing it sooner.
we were on an equal payment plan for our electric bill, then installed Nest, then saved $60 per month after the electric company re-evaluated our usage. no sale would have come along that would have saved us more money than that.
Sounds interesting
I recommend this to everyone! We moved in to a house 2 years ago that had the Nest and we love it! I love that I can control it from my phone even while I’m out of the house. Saved a lot of money too. My favorite feature is that If it does not detect movement in the house it goes in to ECO mode. This is where it goes down or up to a pre-determined temperature. (i.e. If it’s winter I have it set to go down to 65; in the summer…78.)
Absolutely recommend it
Thanks for your recommendation Mona! Awesome to hear how helpful the Nest been in helping to grab some savings!
We received rebates from our electronic company (Duke) & our gas company (Vectron). Be sure to check both 🙂
