Head over to Amazon.com or Walmart.com where you can score this Roku Streaming Stick+ with 4K Streaming for just $49.99 $56.99 shipped (regularly $69.99).
This Roku Streaming Stick is the latest 2017 model and offers 4K, HDR and HD streaming. The remote offers voice control to power on your TV and change the volume. Plus, you can stream over 500,000 movies and TV episodes across top channels and apps!
Can someone tell me how this works and how this would save money by getting rid of our DirecTV? One our friends has this and it seems very nice. I’m unsure of how this works versus cable and what channels you get for what fees? Thanks!
You don’t get any channels with the Roku. The device allows you to download apps from popular streaming services like SlingTV, PSVue, Hulu, etc and then the usual movie apps – Netflix, Amazon Prime Video. Plus other apps you can subscribe to watch specific channels or programming. It is fairly easy to setup and will save money over cable if you aren’t someone who watches a lot of channels.
How does this work with weekly episodes of tv?
It doesn’t work with regular weekly programming! The only way to get current programming with it is if you subscribe to a streaming service like Hulu where they have most of the tv programs but are a few days behind before you can access them.
I recommend you get an HD antenna for your broadcast TV. It will vary in every area but I can get 60 channels on my antenna and use Roku for the extras like HGTV, Netflix etc.
This is coming up for $59.99 Not $49.99!!
Thanks for the heads up! Looks like the deal is now gone from Walmart and the price is up a bit from Amazon. Updating now!
We replaced our DirecTV with this and “subscribe” to DirecNOW which does allow channels to be watched with shows at their scheduled show times. You can also “search” for episodes and movies. We were paying DirecTV over $100/month and this is only $50/month and we get all of the channels that we used to watch (Disney, Disney Jr, ID, ION, History, the news channels, ABC, etc.) The ONLY downside I see to this, is we have wireless internet and somehow that affects the streaming. It is due to our internet service, not the Roku. So if you have good internet service, I would HIGHLY recommend this. We cut our bill in half and still get everthing we got before. We got the $39.99 Roku and I do wish we would have gotten the one that allows DVR like capabilities. I *think* that is the HDR capability. I might drop $56.99 to get that feature. I’ve had this for several months and really only watch TV for an hour or so a day, so it is much better than DirecTV. You can get cheaper packages if you do a monthly subscription, but I specifically wanted the channels we are getting.
