Sent from reader, Kaonu:

Here is a picture of my girls’ closet. They are 2 and 5. I got so tired of organizing the older one’s shorts and pants every time she got into them and ruined the piles. It was time-consuming to check the size and re-stack them.

So I decided to buy these shoe-box-size plastic containers with lids that can be found at Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Target, Walmart, etc. (You have posted deals at Target before). I even got a few from a garage sale.

I put stickers on the containers to denote the size. I store shorts, pants and underwear in them. It is so easy to keep sizes organized and easy for my older daughter to find her size. My 2-year-old girl will be using these clothes soon too, so that’s why I keep such a range of sizes in the closet.

That looks great! Very well organized I’m sure it saves a lot of time when you know things are located. Awesome Job

    Great idea!

Kaonu, this is a great idea. Your daughters’ closet looks so nice and organized. Good for you and good for them too. I am always looking for inspirational closet\storage organizational ideas. Thanks for sharing.

I do the same thing for my kids…it saves my sanity! Now if only someone could magically move it all around for me when the season changes…lol! That is always a lot of work…

That looks great! I’m not sure if it would work for our family because I have a ridiculous amount of clothes for my kids (mostly thanks to garage sales) but I do have a system where I keep an empty hamper in their closets to throw clothing that they outgrow. Every other month, I pick what to pass down or donate.

Same, I have a shameful amount of clothes for my kids (mostly from swaps and the goodwill bins… ok, and the hanna outlet)… but I appreciate the inspiration, I definitely need to get some sort of storage solution in place.

    Looks very organized. Great job!

This is awesome! I have 3 girls, 3, 5 and 7 – I hate doing the size shuffle every season!

My son likes to see all his things, including his clothes, so I recently moved everything to bins in his closet, too, with a few things hung up on hooks. It’s easier for him to put away, and since it’s in his closet, we can close the door. Bonus: I don’t have to nag him to put his clean clothes away anymore.

Simple, neat, and practical. I love the idea (and will use bigger plastic containers for bigger items). Thanks for sharing!

My girls have too many clothes for this. (Mostly from a very generous grandmother) I hate hate hate changing clothes out for the different seasons. My basement is mostly full of boxes all organized by size and season for my 5 kids. I came up with what is more then likely a silly Idea but I want to cut up some of the old clothes and make a little quilt for each of them. That way it doesn’t end up being just thrown out. And they have some stuff from their childhood. I want to use those pesky camp shirts, school shirts that the kids don’t want to get rid of.
