Speaking as a member of both programs, these are really lame promotions. Since Marriott took over Starwood, SPG promos have been crap. SPG used to do double points promotions. Now it’s bonus points only after three stays instead of every stay.

You can also get a large number of Marriott points by signing up for their credit card.
You can get 75,000 points if you spend $3000 in the first 3 months of having the card. There is no annual fee the first year. My experience is that 75,000 points is good for between 3-4 nights at nice hotels. If you have good credit and use credit cards wisely you can really benefit from credit card sign up bonuses.
