I got an email saying mine will renew on June 7, 2018 but my price won’t increase until June 7, 2019.

Interesting. Maybe because they weren’t able to give you 30 days notice before the increase. My email says $59 starting September 2018.

      • Michelle

Good point, didn’t think about that.

You get the old price if your renewal date is before the effective date for the new rate. It has nothing to do with how far in advance you were notified. My regular membership renews on June 15th, so I get the old $99 rate instead of the new $119 rate that goes into effect on June 16th.

Just a heads up. My 4 yr Student Prime expired (I wasnt paying attention) and I was charged the full $105.00 today.

      Same here 🙁

I wasn’t paying attention and got charged for my prime renewal last week. I just enrolled in school again so I was planning on switching to a student account. I called and explained this to them and they refunded me immediately. You should be able to call and get the money back.

I got an email today stating ~The price of the annual Prime Student membership increased from $49 to $59 on May 11, 2018. Your renewal on May 18, 2018 will be at $49. The new price will apply to your renewals starting May 18, 2019.

Do you know if you have a regular membership can you switch to a student membership? I just started grad school.

    • Jenna

Yes, you can! I did it last year when I started grad school and they actually refunded the difference since I had recently renewed my regular Prime account. But just be careful, I got an e-mail confirming my Prime Student was renewed from Feb 2018-Feb 2019 but since I had used 4 years of Student Prime (the max number of years you can use it unbeknownst to me) in my undergrad, the Student Prime expired after 1 month and they started charging me monthly for a regular Prime account which ended up being way more costly than if I had just kept my original membership. I was very disappointed when I realized almost a year later (grad school keeps ya busy) and they said there was nothing they could do even though I had all of the chat transcripts and e-mails that said it was renewed for a year! So disappointed!

No you have to cancel and switch to a student membership.

  5. wendy

Yes, I did that last year when I went back to school.
