This is not something that should be done long term Ketogenic diet is considered a therapy for medical issues rather than a sustainable way to lose weight. Plus eating this way can raise cholesterol levels, lead to nutrient deficiencies and even hair loss. I’m actually a little surprised by this post and new site.

      Not true.

There is credible studies the prove what your thoughts are on Keto diet. My Brother-in-law and I started this diet at the same time. While I didnโ€™t get my glucose and cholesterol checked he did. In January his doctor wanted to start insulin and wanted to put him on a lipid lowering agents.he said no and started the Keto diet. In 3 months his blood sugars went down to the point he now longer is threatened with insulin or lipid lowering agents. In fact triglycerides are actual held on to by carbohydrates.

I do see why you think this way, because his doctor did too. His labs proved to her that this diet works.

My biggest change is diet has done for me: I had a chronic inflammation in my ankle from Running. Taking lots of anti-inflammatory drugs for. Now most days i donโ€™t take any.

    • Veronica

Agreed. I’ve seen at least 3 news articles within the past 6 months about the dangers of long term use of this “diet”. 2 goodfriends had really bad results from it as well. Bacon is actually one of the WORST foods for your body. ๐Ÿ™

Most of your questions can be answered by reading Keto, by Maria and Craig Emmerich. Cholesterol can rise during weight loss on a Keto diet, not necessarily a problem. All of the science is explained in their book. It will help you understand how to do the Keto diet properly. Read, read and read some more. Thereโ€™s a lot to learn and if you do your research you can have great results with your health and weight loss. It does require will power, planning, and on going learning. Sometimes we donโ€™t even know how BAD we feel until we feel good! Getting rid of the sugar in your life is so hard, but so GREAT. Your skin will be beautiful, you will sleep great, the bags under your eyes will disappear, you will be happier, you will have energy all day, and people will start telling you how great you look.

      • Shirley Yeo

Exactly. Just reading her book now which you can buy at Costo, bu the way! ๐Ÿ™‚
Another great resource with lots of science backing it is Dr Mercola’s Fat for Fuel

Oh and can’t wait for the hip2keto app

My brother has been on a Keto dietary way of eating for about 6 months. He started to try and get his blood sugars regulated (dangerously high too long). I do have concerns for his nutrition status and yes cholesterol.
Good thing he has significantly reduced his blood sugar levels without insulin now too. Weight. Loss was incidental but seems no longer insulin resistant (4 now?).
Many professionals believe it is not sustainable. Jury out???

I used to love this site. But now it has become a diet promoting, paid deals, Pinterest stealing site. It makes me sad, because I used to check it all the time to help my family. Now, maybe one post a day is worth it for money saving.

    • Alea

I feel like maybe you’re one of those people that confuse the Hip2Save facebook page with the actual Hip2Save website.. If you rely on Facebook you’ll only ever get like 10% of the stuff any site posts. I have this site in my feedly, and I come directly to the site every day.. There’s like 40-50 non diet promoting deals lol As far as paid deals, every website has paid deals.. That’s how they keep it free for us readers.

Keto is recommended for medical issues *only*. Please advise your readers that this shouldn’t be a sustained way of life! It is usually a prescribed diet and not something most people should be on. It shouldn’t be taken lightly and should never be jumped into without a physical checkup from your Doctor.

    • Mel

I am hesitant to be 100% keto b/c I feel you miss out on nutrients from beans & grains, esp heart healthy oatmeal.

  15. Brenda

A bajillion people follow this site and enjoy itโ€™s many features!
Some โ€œsavingsโ€ posts do seem to get โ€œlostโ€ on occasion, Iโ€™ve noticed, although they are often re-posted throughout the day.
Perhaps the format could be modified enabling savings seekers to readily/easily follow those posts.

You may have just saved my life. I started the LCHF diet a little over a week ago and I need recipes! I have been miserable and if I eat another hard boiled egg, I’m honestly going to open a vein. Learning about Keto desserts and other deliciousnesses (I just made that word up) is just what the doctor ordered. On a happy note, the diet work really works. Lost 13+ pounds the first week, went down 2 BMI points, and my sugar went down by more than half. Is it worth giving up cookies? The jury is still out ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

    • vmm

a chewy cookie is the one thing I miss on keto. I’ve tried all the recipes and methods I can find/think up but nothing is quite the same. however, tons of cheesecake and donut and cake options if you like those.
Its worth it for your health! keep it up Beth!

  17. sarah

oh I can’t wait to share with my friend that’s doing keto right now! if it’s anything like hip2save it will be fun, informative, and worth every second spent on it! cheers to your new adventure!

  18. Nicole

This! I’m in healthcare as well and cringe every time I see anything keto. But to each their own, just not something I would try or recommend.

  19. denise

I have lost 20 pounds on this diet. I started at the end of May. IMO its a diet easy to follow i never count calories like some diets and only watch my carbohydrate intake. Carbs turn into sugars which can lead to obesity and other health issues like diabetes. So cutting back on carbs is a healthy choice. Educate yourself and ask your physician. It sure healthier than sitting around munching chips and drinking soda and beer

  20. tntibos

I started this diet with the help of Hip2save and google search 15 days ago and have lost 8 pounds. I don’t have any kids in the house so I don’t have to that worry, but I hate to cook and I hate eggs, so breakfast has been a challenge. lately I have been having 2 string cheese and some almonds and that gets me to lunch. Lots of water, my skin feels more hydrated, which is great since I am 56. going to Trader joes this week to look for some Keto pancake ingredients. I will cook them and freeze the rest to use later. Good luck everyone that is trying this. I haven’t even cheated in 15 days and I have 12 bags of Halloween candy bought and ready to hand out on the 31st. I even have the 2nd Reese’s cup that my grandson left in my fridge that is still there after 2 days.
