I believe they are $3 next week too. I got one for my daughter last year before first grade. It has held up well! All the zippers still work (which I can’t say about the pricier licensed one we bought for her sibling.)

Hi, first step: join CVS Extra Care program and Walgreens Balance Rewards. If you live near Rite Aid drug stores, join their program too. Collin has explanations of how each rewards program works, but basically when you earn Extra Care Bucks, they count as paying in cash on your next transaction. On the Walgreens program, a certain number of points equals a certain number of dollars to pay for future transactions. I actually save all of my balance rewards points and once a year, buy all my OTC meds for free when they have a BOGO 50% off sale on their store brand Tylenol, Imodium, etc.
See what stores in your area have discounted Sunday papers. In my area, that’s Dollar Tree. I go early on Sundays (when they open) and buy at least 2 papers. Generally you need two of most coupons if the deal is a BOGO sale. I write the date of the newspaper on the coupon insert front and just save them for when Collin posts the coupon match ups to the ad each Saturday afternoon. Start small, learn how to coupon at one store at a time.

The biggest help for groceries is to begin a stockpile so that you do not have to pay full price for most groceries. To begin you can look at the ads and plan meals based on what is on sale and and also buy some extra items that are good prices that you use on a regular basis. As you start to have extra groceries on hand you can move more money each week to adding to your pantry. and do your meal planning based on what is on sale and what you have in your pantry. For me, a meal planning is the best way to save money since I am not in the store just guessing about what we have and what we might eat. A few weeks ago one of our local stores had pasta for 50 cents a pound with a limit of 20. For only $10 we bought 20 pounds of pasta and we not need to buy it for a year unless we see such a great sale again. Also consider shopping at Aldi. You may save so much there that you do not need to worry with coupons at all. We primarily shop at Aldi and then fill in with great sales at other stores. This week one of our stores had 3 pound boxes of sausage patties for $5.48 so we bought 3 and we will not buy sausage again until there is a great price on those again. Always stock up on chicken when it is on sale and freeze it in meal size packages. Also ground beef. I hope this is helpful. I was fortunate to have a Mom who shopped that way so I learned how and I don’t know how we would have fed our crew when they were growing up without knowing how to save at the grocery store.
I find it helpful to know normal/best prices of items that I commonly use.
Where I go shopping, I have an Aldi, Dollar Tree, Food City Grocery, and Walmart Neighborhood Market within a 2 mile radius. So, I made a list of grocery items that I normally buy and went to each store to find their best price for each item. For example, Non-Stick Cooking Spray: our Aldi sells a 6 oz container for $1.49. Dollar Tree sells a 5 oz container for $1, Walmart Neighborhood Market sells an 8 oz container for $1.97. I went home with my prices and did some math (I love my calculator.) Aldi cost $.2483/oz; Dollar Tree costs $.2/0z; and Walmart Neighborhood Market costs $.24625/oz. So, Dollar Tree is the best price for Non Stick Cooking Spray from the stores which I normally shop. If Non-Stick Cooking Spray goes on sale at the grocery store, I can check my list and see if this sale would make it a better price than just buying it from Dollar Tree.
Prices change throughout the year, so I update my list a couple of times a year.
Also, time and gas are a consideration. Sometimes I pay a little more because I’m in a hurry and/or don’t want to make the extra stop.
And, not all products are the same quality. My sister purchased generic “ziploc” bags from Kroger and did Not like them. She said it was the best price from the stores around her, but since she doesn’t like the bags, that was not the best deal for her.
Don’t get overwhelmed. Hip2Save is a great encouragement.
