I have a LIFETIME FISHING KAYAK. I love it. It is easy to get in and out of and very stable and well built. The only drawback is that mine is heavier than my other kayaks. The kayaks listed are a different model from mine, but from the same company.
In fact it is so sturdy-my son was kayaking by a spillway. We had a heavy rain and the water was whitewater rushing over it. He got too close and couldn’t control the kayak enough to get back so (thank God) he jumped out. The kayak went over the 25ft spillway to a concrete barrier below. When it was hauled up the only damage was a few scratches and the seat back needed to popped back in. I highly recommend this product.
Oh wow! SO glad he was okay! Thanks for the feedback, Sherry! Good to know how well it held up after to fall!
We have 4! Lifetime is awesome and they have great customer service with warranty or replacement plugs/clips.
I STRONGLY recommend Store Pickup. We had one shipped before our racks came in. It had a nickle-sized hole and it was a nightmare getting Walmart to pick it back up. Since then, we’ve only done pickup and had to refuse a few due to the condition. They were beat-up and scratched and another even had a hole (again). Stick with it until you get one in new condition because you cannot beat the price and the kayak itself is fantastic!
I should add we have the Tahoma and Kokanee models. A++++
question. If i have a family of 2 adults and 4 kids ages 8-14… would I be better off getting 3 Tahoma single kayaks and just doubling up or doing 2 of the Kokanee tandem and fitting 3 on each one.. you seem like you are very familiar with these. 🙂
I’d also like to know! We’ve considered getting Lifetime kayaks but it would be a one time purchase for us so we’d need to know what would work best long term but still work for our slightly younger family: 4 kids 4-11
I’d also like to know. If we buy kayaks it would be a one-time purchase and we want to make the smartest choice for long term enjoyment and use for our slightly younger family: 4 kids ages 4-11
It really depends on the use/location. (Safety requirements vary by state, please check.)
The Tahoma can comfortably fit an adult and child for a day trip. It’s also much easier to control than the Kokanee so under supervision and a tow rope for safety, we’ve allowed the under 10 kids to man it in calm waters. The Kokanee has maxed out for us w/ 3 teens, one of which is 6’4! (Lifetime kayaks have great adjustability for long legs.) I’d recommend purchasing an additional slip-resistant seat from Amazon. Makes it much more comfortable to add another person.
Thanks a TON for the helpful warning, Gigi! I also like to check out my pickup items before accepting them!
Oh, this reminds me… I’ve been thinking about getting a canoe/kayak that fits two adults and a dog. We would use it very rarely since we don’t live near water. Should we go on Craigs list and look for a beat up old canoe or spring for a new one? H2S readers seem very knowledgable about water crafts so I’m hoping you all would have some advice for me, too! TIA!
For new, maybe something like this?

We have an inflatable 2-man kayak that I bought on Amazon for $50. We have used it several times with no issues. Its very durable and would accommodate a small to medium sized dog. If you would use the kayak rarely, I would recommend an inflatable. There is no worry about transporting it since it inflates in about 10 minutes with a car plug-in pump ($10).
We got an inflatable 2-man kayak off of Amazon also and it’s amazing! Yes definitely recommend the car plug-in pump also. Easy to stuff into the trunk of our car and to store in the garage.
Thank you both so much! I’m so excited to look for a cheap and fun inflatable!
