Did you know that one out of two people say they couldn’t live without their smartphone? 📲 If you’re up for a challenge that includes not picking up your phone for an entire year, this contest is for you!
Now through January 8th, 2019, enter the Vitaminwater Scroll Free For a Year Contest for a chance to win a whopping $100,000. To enter, either create a tweet on Twitter or a post on Instagram explaining how you would use your year if you took a break from your smartphone. Share it on Twitter or Instagram, including the hashtags #NoPhoneforaYear and #contest.
Then on or around January 22nd, 2019, the potential contest winner will be contacted via direct or public message from @vitaminwater on their social media account on Twitter or on Instagram.
What are the rules?
If you are selected, you may NOT use any smartphone for 365 days and cannot be required to use a smartphone for work or other commitments. This means you may not physically operate, caress, hug or otherwise be physically affectionate with anyone’s smartphone. 😂
- No smartphone or tablet use, including using another person’s smartphone or tablet
- Laptops and desktop computers are OK to use.
- Voice-activated devices that are NOT smartphones are OK (like Google Home or Amazon Echo).
What’s the prize?
If you’re the grand prize winner, you will receive a 1996-era cellular telephone that may be used for communication during the 365-day period, including a monthly phone plan ($700+ total value). You will need to agree not to use (or touch) a smartphone for 365 consecutive days and take a lie-detector test at the end of the contract period.
If you successfully meet ALL aspects of the contract, you will receive a $100,000 prize! If you only last for 6 months, but have otherwise met all aspects of the contract, you will receive a $10,000 prize.
I would love to do this!!! However it would be very difficult to stay in contact with my husband when he deploys, I’m not sure how someone in the military could do it

I read the rules, no iPad or tablets allowed. You could invest in a Mac computer to facetime I guess.
We have a daughter overseas and no way I would not be in touch with her wnenever she sends us a message on Messenger!
Alison, my husband of 39 years managed to survive without any kind of social media when he was in the Navy for 20 years. We had to rely solely on “mail call” and if there was an emergency, the Red Cross.
It can be done even now, but it will take a lot of patience, faith, and trust.

I saw “Lie Detector” and the first thing I pictured was my daughter chatting me around with her phone! Lol “No! Get it away, they’ll know and we won’t get paid!” Hahaha

but then, that means even though i’m online way too much (shopping and fb) I probably couldn’t convince them to pick me to try for the year! I could totally do it though! my hubby only has a flip phone so it wouldn’t be an issue!

I wouldn’t mind doing this… some days I hate my phone, but peeps think abt it.. imagine how many deals we would miss for 365 days!! The savings we get from here alone probably add up to 100k!! Yea ik we can get from the computer, but sometimes these offers are too hot to wait for the dinosaur to load!
I’d bet a lot of people would *save* money. Few deals are actual necessities. If you didn’t know about them, you wouldn’t spend money on them.
Give up my Hip2Save app that i’m on 10x a day, ummmm, i’m not sure 100k is worth it.

I was going to do this without any prize money! haha Then I realized we just moved to a new area and I need my phone for GPS (traffic is very hit or miss here and I have no idea where I’m going.)

LOL you could buy a GPS unit for your car and still win 100k. I play music through my phone but for 100K I would just use my ipod or something for the year.
I still have have my old school Garmin from 15 years ago! I would definitely have to dig that out! 🤣

My biggest issue with this is my complete lack of sense of direction; I use Waze for EVERYTHING!

I would never do it. I gets lot of useful work done during lunch break such as paying bills, and it saves me so much time.
I have already made a New Year’s Resolution in my head to be more mindful and present and on my smartphone 50% or more less…. but I just don’t think I can completely eliminate it. I live over 2000 miles from my loved ones for work and my job requires me to be available. Ah, well. I really love the idea though. I’m going to follow this and see if the “winner” actually wins.

A lie detector test is a little extreme lol I can not NOT touch a phone for a year so I guess I am automatically out of the running.
i have a flip phone with no text messaging or internet, so i can only make and receive phone calls, so i would have no problem only using a smartphone for only making and receiving phone calls and no text messaging or internet use what so ever.
