MoviePass Subscription Has Ended (Check Your Account for a Refund)
Heads up MoviePass subscribers! MoviePass has shut down their services indefinitely and will be issuing refunds to subscribers who have prepaid plans. These refunds should be automatically processed and you will not need to contact MoviePass.
We saw the writing on the wall back in July when MoviePass had to temporarily suspend their service.
To compete with MoviePass, theaters created their own unlimited movie programs such as AMC Insider’s A-List Pass which offers 3 movies a week for as low as $19.95 a month and Cinemark’s Movie Club for just $9.99 a month. Due to the competition MoviePass was no longer able to continue their cheap pricing model and therefore has closed.
If you wish to stay up to date on future MoviePass programs or updates you can head here and sign up!

The entire business model was a sham they never made a penny they had hoped to extract deep discounts from the theaters that never happened.
Not holding my breath on the refund.
Yeah, definitely saw that coming. Glad I cancelled when I did
Too good to last I guess.
Yup… figured it was happening… I contacted them a month ago (because I was charged in mid August), cancelled my membership on the app right after, was supposed to be about to use for my last 3 movies until mid Sept, but it would never let me use my last 3 movies. Contacted the customer chat multiple times and never got a response. So disappointing.
The price of Cinemark Movie Club is regional. It is $8.99 per month in Baton Rouge. It is still isn’t worth it. I can get a matinee ticket for $5 on Tuesdays. The 20% concessions discount doesn’t make up for the difference.
With CMC
$8.99 ticket + $8 concessions after 20% discount = $16.99
Without CMC
$5 Tuesday ticket + $10 concessions = $15.99
I would save $1 by not joining CMC. I usually don’t go to late showings because I have to take a bus. The bus doesn’t run all night. The latest 90ish minute showing I can see is at 7:30pm. I have only taken the risk of missing the last bus for Rifftrax movies since that is the only time they are shown.
If you only go to the movies by yourself and only to the discount showings, then no it’s probably not worth it. But for my family of 5 it’s great! We don’t go often but when we do we save a bunch on concessions ($8-10 usually.) Plus if we don’t go every month the tickets rollover so that when we do go we might have 2 or even 3 free tickets to use. Plus you can use them for special event tickets and not have to pay the fee for buying online. You have to buy those online or risk it selling out, so not having that fee is great!
Regal has a subscription now, too, which looks pretty great!
Oh neat! Thanks, Beth!
We haven’t received our redound yet and probably won’t .. thinking about talking to a lawyer because we bought more than one subscription
Refund
how do I request for refund? it has been several month since they went out of business (shutdown whatever)
Hi James! I don’t find any contact information to request a refund. These should be automatically processed without a request. Hope that helps!
Has ANYONE received a refund yet? My wife and I have not.
No refunds on my account either.
