The CVS Symphony monitoring system helps keep your loved ones safe.

I recently got a chance to try the Symphony for myself (and my mom) & we love it!

Because of my mom’s health conditions, she isn’t able to live alone so she lives with me and my family.

She can take care of her basic needs, but if she were to fall or have a seizure, someone needs to be with her. The Symphony Independent Living Network allows her to do just that — live independently — while allowing us to leave the house knowing that we’ll be alerted if anything happens.

Nothing beats the comfort of knowing your loved ones are safe, and this incredible CVS Symphony fall detection and health monitoring gadget has all the bells and whistles. It boasts 24/7 voice-activated emergency response, built-in motion, air quality, and temperature sensors, as well as automatic fall detection.

Setting up the Symphony was fairly easy, too!

It comes with easy-to-open boxes (wonderful for older hands 🙌) and direction booklets. The booklets were numbered and there were clear pictures to explain everything, but we did have a hard time getting our sensors to connect after moving it to another room. Luckily, I called customer service and they were great!

They offered to walk me through making the change but also said they could do it for me remotely. I chose remotely and it was so easy! You can contact them via the app, email, or phone, and they’re super responsive so you never have a long wait.

At first, the CVS Symphony system takes a little while to learn your patterns.

The device has 14 days where it watches movements to see what’s normal for the user. We saw it get better and better with detection and movement during this period of time. It can now sense my mom’s regular activities in the bathroom and is more aware when she has a seizure as opposed to just doing normal things in the bathroom area.

For example, the first few days, it would ask us if she was okay or if she needed help when she would shower. Now it’s familiar with that task!

A few days after set up, the system went off for us.

My bathroom sensor went off & woke me from a dead sleep. It was great! I was easily & quickly able to get in and assist my mom.

We also set up the app on our phones to notify us if there is a problem.

The Symphony app has us set up information for emergency responders to be able to get in our house, know about our pets, health conditions, and where my mom’s medicine is located.

If the emergency responders can’t get a hold of us, then they will come to the house to check on my mom.

Note: In the event of a power outage, the hub has a backup battery that kicks in! The backup battery lasts between 4 and 6 hours. If WiFi goes down, the 4G-LTE service will kick in automatically.

If the Symphony notices non-movement, it will talk out loud first.

If my mom is able to answer, she can tell it what she needs or have them cancel emergency responders. If she isn’t able to answer, it will then follow the protocol we have set up in the app.

From the hub, fall sensor, motion sensor, or care button, she can get help even if she can’t talk. She can wear the care button on a lanyard or on the included wristband. I can call the hub when I’m gone, and she can talk to me from the speaker. She doesn’t need to look for her phone or figure out how to answer it. She can even call me with a simple button!

Symphony is connected 24/7 so if anything happens at night, it will wake us.

I was even able to add my siblings into the app so they can also stay in the know! It’s so helpful to have some extra eyes around as a backup in the off chance I miss an alert.

After you’re all set up, you maintain CVS Symphony’s monitoring with a monthly subscription plan.

Once you own the system, the monthly service is $39.99 which includes 24/7 monitoring in the home. While almost $40 per month seems like a lot of money, it allows someone to live independently or be home alone, so we find it worth the cost.

Note: This is not a system you use outside of the home since the hub is connected inside, and the Care Button works within 200 feet of the hub.

When you’ve been independent your whole life and then are suddenly no longer able to be, it’s really hard to accept. The Symphony system not only gives the caretaker peace of mind, but it gives your loved ones a sense of dignity, pride, and self-respect that may otherwise slip away if they have to remain totally dependent on their family.

What happens if power or internet goes out? How far away from central unit do you have to be for this to stop working or not work ? (If you go outside for a walk say?) Thank you.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Those are great questions! The Care Button works within a range of up to 200 feet from the Smart Hub. The Smart Hub has sensors that are placed in the main room and watch for up to 50 feet. There are other sensors you place in the bathroom (or anywhere in your house) to watch those areas. This will not work outside the home. There is a mobile companion hub (sold separately) if you want GPS location and emergency calls outside the home. The hub has a backup battery that kicks in if the power source is cut due to a blackout, brownout, or by accident! The backup battery lasts between 4 and 6 hours. In the event WiFi Goes down, the 4G-LTE service will kick-in automatically.

How sweet! 🥰 You’re so very welcome! Thanks a bunch for the request, kind words and for being a longtime follower! I’ll be sure to pass this along. SUPER happy you’ve been able to grab the savings your family has needed most! 💕

I second that! I am the full-time caretaker to my father. Between taking care of him and running my own life it is very stressful and costly since I typically just pay for items for him myself since other family members are not willing to help out 🙁 I appreciate all of the deals Hip2save posts!

  2. Ann

Can you post the companion hub.(sold separately)? I checked and didn’t know which one to purchase.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Ann! Can you explain more what companion hub you are referring to that you state needs to be purchased separately? The CVS Health Symphony: Essential Bundle featured in the post above actually comes complete with a Voice-Activated Smart Hub so you should not have to purchase anything additional.

  3. Jenleh

Do you know if this system could monitor 2 people?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi there! It looks like you can purchase an additonal care button for another person. “Multiple care buttons can be used with Smart Hub. Keep an extra on hand, share with another person in the home or use as a replacement.” Hope this helps!

  4. Lana

We don’t have this one but a call button saved my Mom’s life after she fell and hit her head and gashed it open. EMS arrived to find her laying in a pool of blood. Thank goodness she could call for help or she would have bled to death.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh my goodness! Thanks for sharing your experience, Lana. SO glad she was okay and could get help quickly!

  5. Diane

My mom has had Great Calls button for 5 years. It has a similar monthly cost. Her button has fall detection can be worn in the shower and is GPS enabled. I have given Great Calls her medical information and family members to call and a pass code so they can let EMT’s in case she alone. The one time she fell they stayed on the line until someone got to the house to help her.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

That sounds fantastic! I’m so glad you have that and it has worked so well for you and your mom, Diane!

We’ve been using another company for many years now that works without a hub, is waterproof, detects falls, and uses the same technology as your cell phone so it works regardless of where they are, which was good since she was still active for the first couple of years that she wore it. It doesn’t require power to work, you put it on the charger once a month. For us it’s been perfect since she still insists on living alone, although she’s right next door. It cost $20 a month and is worth piece of mind. Just a heads up, put a realtors lock box with the key to her house on the front door. Give your monitoring company the code to that box so the EMS can access the key if needed.

Do you mind sharing which brand this one is?

    • MK

Which company is this? I need to get a GPS monitor for my intensive special needs non-verbal son, he’s high risk with multiple medical conditions and has no mind of safety. I’m scared every time he goes out of the house with myself or his dad.

Also consider checking with your local seniors agency to see if they offer similar products. In my area, a Jewish service agency provides a low-cost service (you don’t have to be Jewish to access it).

I have a 65 year-old friend who has used a sensor since she became a widow 22 years ago. She lives alone and is in good health, but she worried about what would happen if she had an emergency and couldn’t dial 911.

  8. Christina

We also “tagged” my 98 year old Grandmother, who is still exhausting us all with her energy! She’s amazing! Not this brand, but similar, and just an FYI, we brought it in and put it on an old ‘watchband” of hers and it’s much more practical for how tiny she is. It looks more stylish too, because she is more stylish than all of us combined!

  9. lindak

Everyone at my mom’s assisted living has something similar. My mom has used it several times including when she fell and broke her hip. If you take care of anyone with special needs this is a great tool to have.

  10. Paula

I also would like to know the brand name of this device.

  11. Social Worker

I would advise people doing their homework first. Many companies offer the service for a similar monthly fee, but do not charge for the unit. Also, if your loved one has medicaid, they may qualify to get one for free.
