Did you know you can rent books for free without even leaving the house?

In an effort to create “a world enlightened by reading,” Ohio-based company OverDrive curated the largest collection of magazines, ebooks, and audiobooks available to borrow through award-winning apps you can get right on your smartphone! In 2022 alone, public libraries and schools from all over the world donated more than one million pieces of content to OverDrive’s catalog, so there’s never been a better time to get involved.

The best part? It’s the easiest way to get your kiddos immersed in reading without having to even visit the local library. 🙌 All you’ll need to access the content is an internet connection and either a library card or student ID.

Here’s how it works!

Step 1: Find and open your school or library’s digital collection.

Step 2: Browse your library or school’s digital collection & select a title. Please note that you’ll need a valid library card or student ID to complete this step.

Step 3: Enjoy your new books! Borrowed titles are downloaded to the app automatically when connected to WiFi so you’ll be able to enjoy them without internet access as well. US users also have the option to send the downloaded material to their Kindles.

Once your rental period is up, you have the option to renew. If you don’t, your book will be automatically returned–no need to worry about late fees! The OverDrive library is growing every day, so get signed up now to start taking advantage of those totally FREE books. 🙌

The Libby app is awesome; my favorite part is being able to rewind in 15 second increments if I am distracted & miss something. I work at a library and recommend it to all of our new patrons. Thanks for giving a shout out to local school and public libraries!

I’ve been using Libby for over a year. It’s awesome and so many great books! When my Kindle free subscription was up, I switched to just borrowing from Libby for e-books and audiobooks and don’t miss Kindle unlimited at all. My library also offers Hoopla, which is pretty much the same. You can borrow movies and TV shows as well

I borrowed over 150 audio books last year from Libby (Overdrive app). It always baffles me when people buy them. 🤔

Our library and lots of others also offer Freegal, a free and legal downloading and streaming service for music. They have a library if 15 million songs, so there’s a lot of genres to choose from. My son downloads music from there every week. You have a weekly limit that I think is set by the library’s contract with Freegal.
