Sora Reading App | Teens Get 28 FREE Audiobooks This Summer!

If you have a teen who loves books (or one who you think would enjoy the world of audiobooks), there’s a FREE summer reading program just for them!
SYNC is a free summer audiobook program for teens ages 13 and up, and now it’s back with another summer of free content! Registration for the 2023 summer season is now open and FREE to all teens 13+.
This year’s summer reading program will span 14 weeks and last through August 2nd. Each week, SYNC participants will receive two thematically paired audiobooks delivered through Sora Reading, the student version of the OverDrive app. By the end of the program, teens will have had the opportunity to listen to a total of 28 new titles!

If you’d like your teen to participate in SYNC, you can register them for the program here. Then, download Sora, a free book-reading app available on iOS or Android.
The Sora app is completely free, and you do not need to be affiliated with a school to use Sora with the SYNC summer reading program. Just be sure that you’ve downloaded it on the device your teen will use for listening to their audiobooks.

The free audiobooks are available to teens worldwide, and the titles change every Thursday at 12 AM ET. Once they go live, each title is only available to load for a period of 7 days. After they’ve been loaded into the Sora app, the titles are your teen’s to keep! 🙌

Definitely take a look at the books offered before deciding if this is right for your teen. Several of them address LGBTQ issues and there is at least one on critical race theory.

When my daughter was in middle school, some of the Manga books in the library had nude cartoons in them. Some books contain racial slurs, sexual violence, cuss words, and content I feel is inappropriate for young teens. Keep communication open with your teens.

There are no Manga titles. These are Audible titles to listen to. You will find a true story about a teacher that defied Hitler and stories about Socrates and Plato. No titles are mandatory to download and you may pick and choose.
You have to manually download the audiobooks each week so you can pick and choose which titles you wish to listen to. I have been listening to these “teen” books for years.
