Big Changes Coming to Starbucks Rewards: What You Need to Know
It’s rewarding to be a Starbucks Rewards member!
Beginning March 10th, Starbucks will be rolling out changes to their Rewards Program (free to join)!
Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect…
- Three new tiered membership levels: Green, Gold, and Reserve.
- Changes to Star expirations. Gold & Reserve Member Stars no longer expire.
- Maximum redemption values for the 100, 200, and 300 Star tiers.
- New benefits:
- Free Mod Mondays
- 60 Star Tier
- Bonus Stars when reloading $30+
Starbucks Rewards members get exclusive offers & discounts!
Whether you’re a regular customer or stop in occasionally, this rewards program is a must! You’ll earn points called “stars” with every purchase and get access to all kinds of exclusive offers, including special promotions to earn bonus stars.
Another good reason to join the Rewards program is that Starbucks occasionally has instant win games where you can score free stars, drinks, gift cards, and more. You need to be a member to reap these rewards, so be sure to sign up for your free account!
As part of the upcoming changes, they be launching ‘Free Mod Mondays’ where members will receive a coupon on one Monday a month for a free drink customization, including Cold Foam.
You’ll also be able to earn 10 free Bonus Stars every time you reload your Starbucks Card with $30 or get 25 Bonus Stars with a $50 reload – up to 25 bonus stars per transaction, including auto-reloads.
How do Starbucks Rewards work?
To get started, create a Rewards account. You can do this online or through the Starbucks app. Members earn stars on EVERY order outside of gift card purchases. Stars accumulate and can be redeemed for free food and drinks.
In addition to the Free Mod Mondays and the Bonus Stars for reloads mentioned above, all members get double stars for using a personal cup.
How quickly you earn Stars depends on which tier you belong to…
- Green Members: Earn One Star for Every $1 Spent
- Gold Members: Earn 1.2 Stars for Every $1 Spent + 4 Extra Double Star Days Per Year
- Reserve Members: Earn 1.7 Stars for Every $1 Spent + 6 Extra Double Star Days Per Year
Members can achieve Gold status by earning 500 Stars or Reserve status by earning 2,500 Stars once at Gold status. Watch for an email on March 10th to find out your level status based on your activity from your 2025 Starbucks Rewards membership.
Starbucks Star Rewards redemption options:
- 25 Stars: Swap in any milk substitutions, syrups, or an extra shot of espresso free of charge (up to $1).
- 60 Stars: Up to $2 off any item – New!
- 100 Stars: Brewed hot or iced coffee or tea, bakery item, packaged snack, and more (up to $6).
- 200 Stars: Grab a free handcrafted drink (including Cold Brew, Lattes, and more) or a hot breakfast item (up to $10).
- 300 Stars: Indulge in a free protein box, salad, or sandwich, or take home a bag of coffee (up to $16).
- 400 Stars: Signature mug, drink tumbler, or select coffee merch (up to $20).
Do Starbucks Rewards Expire?
As of right now, Stars (the points you use to redeem rewards) expire after 6 months. However, with the new changes that begin on March 10th, this will be changing.
As a Green tier member, Stars will still expire six months after earning them. However, you will be able to extend the expiring Stars by making a purchase, redeeming a reward, or reloading a Starbucks Card. Plus, Stars will no longer expire for Gold and Reserve tier members. 🎉
Be sure to sign up for emails from Starbucks to be notified when your Stars will soon expire.
What is the Starbucks App?
Starbucks Rewards and the Starbucks app go hand in hand, and using the app makes your Starbucks Rewards experience even more beneficial.
Using the app allows rewards members to customize drinks and place orders for Mobile Pickup in your local cafe. The app also makes it super easy to track how many stars you’ve earned, how many you’ve redeemed, and when they expire. To make your checkout experience a breeze, app users can link payment cards, consolidate Starbucks gift cards, and send Starbucks gift cards to friends, family, co-workers, or whomever!
What is the Starbucks Birthday Reward?
If there’s one place that is just as excited about your special day as you are, it’s Starbucks! All Rewards members get a birthday freebie of a free drink or food item of their choice!
While Green members will only have their birthday to redeem their freebie, Gold Members will have 7 days, and Reserve Members will have a whole 30 days!
