Your future Target runs could take place entirely in the parking lot! 😱

Target has announced plans to expand its same-day pickup services by adding a few new features that curbside pick-up shoppers are sure to love!

The company will soon begin testing the option for guests in select markets to add a Starbucks order or make a return via Target’s free, contactless curbside service through the app.

The store is also planning to expand its “backup item” functionality to more categories (like beauty and household essentials), so shoppers can suggest substitutions for unavailable items.

“Our guests continue to tell us they love the ease and convenience of Drive Up, and they have been asking us to add even more of the Target experience to the service. Adding a Starbucks order and easy returns, while expanding our backup item options, will give guests even more of what they love about shopping at Target, quickly and easily.” – Mark Schindele, Target’s chief stores officer

If you love the experience of getting coffee on your Target run but find that you’re short on time, then you’ll love having the ability to grab something from Starbucks with your curbside pick-up order. Best of all, you won’t even have to reserve a pickup time in advance – you can place your Starbucks order at the last minute, whenever you’re ready to head to the store!

When this functionality goes live, you’ll just need to use the app to indicate that you’re on your way, and then place your order from the Starbucks menu in the app. Upon arrival, a Target Drive Up team member will deliver both your Target order and your Starbucks order directly to your car. Yay!

If you have a return but don’t want to enter the store, you’ll also be able to use a similar process to initiate a return via the Target app and complete it in the Drive-Up lane. So convenient!

These new features of the Target app will become available at stores in select cities this fall, with more locations coming in 2022 and beyond. Are you as excited as we are to try out these new services from Target?!

Very exciting. Way to go Target. I really love the convenience factor. Not to have to go into store is awesome and then it curbs my spending also.

This is a game changer! I can’t tell you how many times I wished I could get a Starbucks order with my pickup!

  3. TuMama

The curbside returns would be a game changer! Im tired of waiting in line behind people that dont have their stuff ready and are scrolling through all their purchases on their phone or looking for a debit card in 3 different purses! Ughhh!

Won’t be ordering my Starbucks curbside. I will return curbside. I will pickup merchandise curbside.

i rarely need to return anything to target, and their return counter doesn’t often have a line. all the starbucks around me, and there are 5 within 45 seconds, have a drive thru. But i used Targets drive up yesterday for some things and it was fast and efficient. also things that i can’t find on the shelves, were filled for me so I’m assuming they had them in backstock.

Can’t wait for curbside returns. This is a game changer

Curbside returns would be awesome! I seem to have to go shop after I return so it will save some green. Haha!!

Is it my birthday? I think it must be my birthday! I use the drive up probably twice a week as it is. I will pay slightly more for items at Target just to avoid having to buckle, unbuckle and take all my kids into the store. Also starbucks drive thrus here take FOREVER. Unlike Walmart and the grocery stores you dont have to schedule a time window for hours later or even the next day. You can go as soon as its ready. Target4Life!!

I recently had knee surgery and Target curbside pick was so helpful. I would love to add returns and Starbucks

love, loVE, LOVE drive up returns!! That will be very convenient. However, I hope the Starbucks pickup will be in a different area. Lines are super long in a stand alone location, it will be a nightmare getting a parking spot for drive ups. We’ll see!

Having worked retail and in a coffee shop, if there was ever a reason to quit, waltzing out with someone’s pain in the butt drink order would be my curtain call. I’ll never use that curbside Starbucks nonsense. Sounds like a Karen parade.

The Starbucks at my Target is a complete joke! They aren’t even open 95% of the time. Ordering curbside would be a total disaster there.

    • Katie

I guess your store’s Starbucks orders will be canceled 95% of the time if they don’t have anyone to make drinks.

i love that target has a starbucks but i don’t like that i can’t get benefits/use stars with them, i will probably not use this unless I’m in a real crunch

The Starbucks in my Target never has any staff. They can’t keep up with business as is. This will happen in my area when hell freezes over.

I love the idea of being able to return curbside! I’m not so sure about the Starbucks, that just seems like it might be a logistical problem especially if you order a hot drink. I would appreciate the option to order ahead at the Target Starbucks like you can for the regular locations.

  15. Beka

Honestly, I do not think this is a good idea. Target’s drive up services are fantastic, faster and more accurate than any store around, and this is seriously going to bring the quality down. Waits will be longer while employees are tied up with curbside returns and chasing down drinks. It will be difficult to time drinks perfectly with arrivals, so they’ll possibly be sitting for awhile, which is not appealing. I’m also afraid this will make demanding customers treat the underpaid retail workers even worse. Imagine if the drink spills on the way out or is made incorrectly. How many times is an employee going to have to run back and forth dealing with one customer/drink? I don’t know. I can’t say I’m a fan of this idea.

  16. Mamamia

Just feel bad for the workers who need to come out in the freezing temps . 👎🏼

  17. Nae17

While the sound of this is appealing I really do hope it doesn’t slow down the pick up process! I purposefully go to the Target further away because I never have to wait for my order when I check in before I leave my house – the other location can take up to 20 minutes 😬. Adding hot/cold made to order drinks to this process seems like a disaster waiting to happen! Too many variables of things that could slow it all down and back it up for everyone.
