Mother's Day gifts in a jar

Need a Mother’s Day gift idea?

Consider creating mom or grandma a jar filled with gifts as a fun surprise. Much like a gift basket, you can fill it up with personalized items she’d enjoy as a thoughtful way to say Happy Mother’s Day – plus, we’ve even got free printable gift tags for you!

You can make jars for all the special moms in your life. And when she’s done, mom can use these pretty storage jars all year long!

Grab some jars and let’s make a cute gift!

My favorite jars to make these types of gifts are the Anchor Hocking Heritage jars from Walmart. They’re well made, affordable, and super convenient to have around the house. The large 2-gallon glass jars are just $15 in-store, and there are other small and medium-sized varieties also, like the 1/2 gallon also pictured (around $7 in my store).

Hip Tip: HomeGoods and Target are also good spots to check for jars, as well as Dollar Tree (for a smaller Mason jar gift). You can also re-purpose a pretty jar you have around the house, or check your thrift store.

Then simply print the FREE Mother’s Day gift tags on card stock paper and attach to your jars with decorative ribbon or string. I’ve included multiple sized tags so you can use them on different sizes of jars.

It’s also worth mentioning that these tags would make a pretty gift topper or serve as a tag for any other gift you are planning for on Mother’s Day!

3 different mother's day gifts in a jar on the table

Here are 3 unique gifts in a jar ideas for mom!

I filled one jar with all kinds of fun ways for mom to pamper herself, such as different beauty and relaxation products and things I know she’ll enjoy! Another jar has summer essentials like a beach towel, sunglasses, flip flops, and sunscreen. Finally, the last jar has a selection of pretty nail polish and supplies for the perfect manicure.

I used gift basket filling at the bottom of each jar, but that is definitely optional.

Don’t forget to include a little Mom-mento!

I love that you can personalize this gift for mom at lots of different price points according to your budget. I’d also consider including some priceless items like a drawing from the kids, a special small framed photo, or photo magnets. Or even write down reasons why you love your mom/grandma on pieces of paper, just like we did with these DIY Kindness Jars!

Lina Thx.this is such a cute idea ..A friend of mine is recovering from an operation.. ,so I know she will love one of these. YOU have great DIY ideas. Super easy too..keep up the good work and God bless.

Aw that’s so sweet! Thanks Babymair! ❤️🙌

I love this idea! Unfortunately some people do not share the same thoughts and enthusiasm about saving money and budgeting. I learned this hard way. I have a family member that doesn’t like when I purchase her gift at a discount or buy cards from dollar store (I honestly don’t know how she can tell this one) it takes the fun out of giving to her. I’m guessing she doesn’t think I love her unless I spend full price

    • Roks

      Ditto that

    • Ash

Stop buying for her. She would no longer be on my gift giving list.

      • Lori

        Exactly!

    • april

I’m sorry that’s happening to you. I get the same feeling from some of my family members. I might have a reputation for being a weirdo cheapskate at this point, but I ignore it. I still go out of my way to think of them and buy them a gift I think they’ll like. How much I pay for it shouldn’t matter.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh darn! That’s too bad. I love simple yet thoughtful gifts. Dollar Tree cards are way cute nowadays!

    • Ashley

Denise, maybe you shouldn’t get that family member anything for a year and see how they like not receiving anything. This sounds like teenage behavior!

    • Cristine

That’s sad, seems like a very ungrateful person.

      • Lisa

As a very frugal and fellow H2S follower myself, my friends/family have all realized that please get me NOTHING as opposed to something I would never use (other than give it to Goodwill) AND put the money they would have spent on me into a retirement account. After almost 27 years of marriage, even my spouse has come to realize, please get me nothing — I only want time with you. And my kids, they have both realized as well, please, do NOT get me/us anything for gifts… put that money into your retirement account. So I do not consider myself ungrateful — just practical and a realist. Too many people do not realize what they have/do not have financially. Go log into your Social Security Account and see how much money you will NOT be getting monthly. Entirely too many people feel that SS should support/sustain them in retirement — newsflash. SS was ever only meant to be a “supplement” to a retirement. Not to take away from this post, these are all cute ideas, but know your recipient as well.

    • shop4mybabies

i have family that is the opposite…complains that i spent way too much and accuses me of lying if i say it was less than 10$ the result is the same i feel like it takes away from the thoughtfulness i put into thinking they would love that crockpot or scooter for their kids

  3. ann

They should count their blessings that someone loves and cares about them enough to get them a gift. The best gifts are homemade!

  4. Cristine

My mom is so hard to buy for, I really like that first jar idea though, could be perfect for her. Thanks for the cute ideas!?

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Ah you’re so welcome Christine! Thanks for stopping by!
