Consumers Urged to Stop Using Recalled Boppy Loungers Following Additional Deaths
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and The Boppy Company are still urging consumers to stop using Boppy Newborn Loungers over a year and a half after they were recalled.
The Boppy Original Newborn Loungers, Boppy Preferred Newborn Loungers, and Pottery Barn Kids Boppy Newborn Loungers were recalled in September 2021 due to the risk of suffocation if infants roll, move, or are placed in a position that obstructs breathing. Infants may also suffocate if they roll off the lounger onto another surface, like an adult pillow.
The Newborn Loungers have not been legal for sale since they were recalled, but they continue to be sold on Facebook Marketplace and in other second-hand settings. Facebook Marketplace and other online spaces have been asked to remove the recalled products from their sites because it is unlawful to sell or donate a CPSC-recalled product.
Despite these measures, the recalled loungers continue to be used in homes, sold second-hand, and donated. Sadly, two more infants have died in the Boppy Newborn Loungers since the September 2021 recall was issued.
Once again, the CPSC and Boppy are strongly urging consumers to stop using the recalled Newborn Loungers and participate in the recall.

CPSC is also issuing a reminder that the best place for a baby to sleep is on a firm, flat surface in a crib, bassinet, or play yard. Parents and caregivers should never add blankets, pillows, padded crib bumpers, or other items to an infant’s sleeping environment. Babies should always be placed to sleep on their backs.
