Need eggs? You’ll have to buy them somewhere other than Dollar Tree…

Dollar Tree store

Thanks to a high price tag, Dollar Tree is no longer selling eggs.

Eggs are just too expensive these days. Even Dollar Tree can’t afford them. The company tries to keep prices around $1.25. Though the cost of eggs is starting to come down, it’s still too high for Dollar Tree to offer a dozen at such a low price.

Instead of raising the prices at their stores or paying clerks to frequently adjust the price stickers, Dollar Tree has opted to halt the sale of their eggs altogether. A spokesperson for the company told Reuters that they don’t anticipate carrying eggs in their stores until at least fall. With over 8,000 Dollar Tree stores nationwide, this change is sure to impact many households.

Unfortunately for budget-conscious consumers, this announcement is coming right before the Easter holiday. If your family was planning on dying Easter eggs, making deviled eggs, or whipping up an egg salad for Easter, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

Why are egg prices so high?

If you’re wondering what caused egg prices to soar, it’s mostly due to the avian flu impacting supply. The deadliest avian flu in history recently occurred and more than 50 million birds died as a result.

In addition to the lack of supply, recent inflation has also impacted the price of eggs. According to CNN Business, egg prices for consumers were up 55% as recently as February. 😱

No clue they even sold eggs. I never seen them in stores then again I’d never buy eggs from the Dollar Tree.

I don’t think my store ever sold eggs either, Bryant. It seems that this may have varied by location. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us! šŸ„ššŸ’•

I bought their eggs when my husband was out of work. Aldi and Dollar Tree were in same shopping mall so Iā€™d buy DT when Aldi was higher. I looked up the DT egg distributor and they sold eggs to familiar grocers so I was comfortable buying them, DT eggs tasted the same as any other standard brand of egg. 3 years ago Aldi had their normal price if eggs for 49 cents for a dozen, I bought six šŸ˜‚ that was a good day!

That does sound like a great day and an awesome price for sure! Thanks for letting us know what you thought of the Dollar Tree eggs! šŸ™ŒšŸ’–
