Here’s the scoop – Kraft Heinz will remove all artificial food dyes!

It’s good news for the Kraft Heinz Company! Effective immediately, Kraft Heinz will no longer launch new U.S. products containing Food, Drug & Cosmetic (FD&C) colors. The company plans to remove all remaining FD&C colors from its U.S. portfolio by the end of 2027.

What are Food, Drug & Cosmetic (FD&C) colors?

These are synthetic colors that have been approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration for use in food, drugs, and cosmetics. They are used to enhance visual appeal or to offset color loss during processing.

This isn’t a complete surprise, as the company has been making more natural replacements, like removing all artificial colors, preservatives, and flavors from their beloved Mac & Cheese recipe back in 2016, and their iconic Heinz Ketchup has never had artificial dyes – the red color comes from real tomatoes.

If you need even more reasons to love Kraft Heinz, keep in mind that:

  • Nearly 90% of all Kraft Heinz U.S. products are already free of FD&C colors
  • Kraft Heinz has made 1000+ recipe changes in the past five years to move towards higher nutritional standards

It’s great to see Kraft Heinz prioritizing nutrition; hopefully, other companies will do the same!

This is great news! Hopefully more companies do the same…

This is a win. But, my only concern now is if they incorporate carminic acid (which comes from insect exoskeleton), or some other lesser known ingredients which can cause serious allergy issues. Hopefully, they will educate people on what exactly is going in to the food. All natural doesn’t wipe out all risks.
