Hey readers! 👋 Bryn here, Collin’s sidekick and sister!

If you’re looking for a better night’s sleep and are tired of a bulky box fan taking up space in your home or office like I was, I’ve got the perfect solution for you that will have you ditching the box fan altogether (well, possibly!).

I’m obsessed with my white noise sound machine by LectroFan… and I’m not the only one!

Say hello to my favorite LectroFan – I seriously can’t sleep without it!

This little machine is small but sturdy and will be your own little personal white noise and fan sound machine. It comes with tons of fan sounds – ten to be exact! So if you have to sleep with a fan, this thing will truly suit anyone’s needs.

I love that you can choose between a box fan, exhaust fan, oscillating fan, vent fan, etc. and there are even 10 variations of pure white noise sounds like champagne, coral, amber, cinnamon, and more.

Talk about heaven! 🙌

Plus, all sounds can be personalized with the volume control button – choose a noise level from a whisper to many times louder than mechanical fan based conditioners.

But one of the best features about the LectroFan is that it is compact, so it doesn’t take up a lot of space as a bulky box fan does. I just sit mine right on top of my nightstand and it’s not obtrusive to my room or decor at all. 🙌🏻

I have a confession to make though…

My box fan isn’t entirely gone – I tried to say goodbye to it for good but I just am not ready to let go of it completely. While I’m obsessed with my white noise machine, I really need a ton of background noise to sleep soundly. So I pulled my box fan back out and still use it from time to time with my sound machine as well. 😂  I swear if you were to hear the dull but loud noise in my room at night, you’d wonder how anyone could sleep in that!

On another note, even my Hip sidekick, Emily, is totally obsessed with her LectroFan!

“I never imagined a small gadget could do so much good for my sleep! Not only does it help me get to sleep, but I STAY asleep all through the night. This is huge since my boyfriend and I are on different sleep schedules — no more mid-sleep disturbances when he would come to bed.

I used to have a looping sound machine before but I would hear the ticks in the sound loop and it became impossible to fall asleep. The white noise Lectrofan has been a total game changer!”

If you’re a traveler like me, it gets even better…

hand holding a mini sized white lectrofan

Not long ago I discovered an even smaller, travel-sized LectroFan (now available in the new, micro 2 edition) which is even more of a game-changer if you frequently travel!

Funny little fact…one of my least favorite things about traveling is that I don’t have all the white noise that I’m used to sleeping with at home, so before I discovered the full-sized LectroFan, I was literally packing a mini version of a box fan in my suitcase (despite the fact that it took up at least half of my suitcase). 🤣

And while I could definitely have traveled more easily once I discovered the full-sized LectroFan, this micro sound machine is about half the size of the regular LectroFan but offers most of the same features. It instantly became my favorite, must-have travel companion forever!

It also doubles as a Bluetooth speaker if you want to play some of your favorite tunes or audiobooks rather than using the white noise sounds.

Even better, despite its tiny size, the LectroFan micro puts out quite the volume, yet fits in the palm of my hand! Incredible!

Hip Tip: Find out how my sister, Collin, went from an over-packer to a carry on pro for a week-long vacay.

If Emily and I haven’t convinced you to ditch the box fan yet, here are a couple of the 4,000+ 5-star reviews on Amazon:

“A friend that travels a lot recommended this LectroFan so I decided to give it a try for a long trip we had planned. It is awesome! I like the variety of noises, the volume control, & got a great night of sleep from night one of using it. It’s small (perfect for travel) yet sturdy and not flimsy at all. This will be used every night of my trip and will go on my nightstand when I get home!” – Lynn ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“As someone who has used white noise to sleep for over 35 years, I was shocked at how good the sound is on this little guy! I’ve always struggled with other solutions like phone apps, they’re too high-pitched. However, the LectroFan is perfect!” – Jan ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Tons of my Hip sidekicks love these affordable sheets from Amazon!

Unless you live in MS and need an actual fan…We sleep with A/C plus a ceiling fan plus a standing fan plus sound machines. It’s HOT here.

    • Li

I hear ya…..try living in Arizona with temps yesterday at 118* (but it’s a dry heat…hahaha) A/C and ceiling fans run 24/7.

      • akajulz

I was on a vacation to Palm Springs where it was 117 degrees and the same day we drove to Riverside where it was 100 degrees and it felt so much hotter there. ! I live in San Jose and it’s the same thing with Sacramento. It’s hotter there but it feels cooler there. So there is some validity to the dry heat theory.

    • Colleen

Expensive sleep! Worth every penny I’m sure! I’m getting the Lectrofan because soon it will cool down and I’ll go through severe loss of sleep over the loss of fan noise and the quiet.

  2. susanwalters

I thought this article was about ways to keep cool – – not fan noise but actual fans – – We need to keep cool in Georgia

    • GAmommyof4

Lol, me too! I thought they were talking about a smaller fan that kept you as cool as a box fan!

    • Lori

      Yes….Tennessee is HOT!!!

    • Anne Shaw

SAME HERE!!!! I need a keep cool article, so I don’t feel so hopeless about 2 more months of warm weather!!!

  3. tracieu

We have 2 of these! One for home and one for travel. Often times me or my husband have to travel and that would leave on of us without the LectroFan. So, we now have 2. Sadly, the travel one is the full size, but really doesn’t take up a ton of space. No more fans for us.

  4. Kerri

I bought this last year to replace my box fan for noise and unfortunately it didn’t work for me. I really wanted it to, but for me it just didn’t have the same noise as a box fan or loudness.

    • Denise

Hi Kerri if you own an echo dot or larger Alexa you could try all diff sounds of white noise as well as fan noises. Free with amazon prime. We listen to ours every night can’t sleep without it! Download the Alexa app on your phone you can access to different sounds straight from the app. Hope that helps

      • kate-1

Never thought of that! Great idea

      • EmilyMab

I was just coming here to rave about “sleep sounds” from Alexa, I listen to ocean waves every night now and I sleep so much better! If you already own an echo or dot no reason to buy something else.

        • Jen S

I also listen to ocean waves every night! I use my sharper image sound machine but can’t go to sleep without it!

        • Denise

Yes! That’s the one I use “sleep sounds” it’s awesome!!!

      • David

We use sleep sounds on an echo dot, and my wife loves it. The “babbling brook” sound makes me need to go to the bathroom, but it’s a small price to pay 😉

    • Amy

Yeah these don’t work for me either. I’ve tried sound machines and apps on my phone when traveling and nothing is the same!

  5. Jody Paul

So true, we live in Ga as well we need a fan to keep cool

  6. Andrea

I’m a white noise sleeper, and I have had mine for several years and love it! I live in south AL, between my A/C and ceiling fan, I’m plenty cool enough, but we’re all different. The regular size travels well too, it’s not big at all!

  7. Elaine

We live in SC and have a ceiling fan AND a box fan blowing on us. It is just so hot and humid here and many times the AC struggles. In the past I have loved noise machines, but now that we have Amazon Echo Dot devices we don’t need them we use sleep sounds. I love the Micro idea for travel!! Thanks for the well written article.

  8. Leslie

I love my white noise but we have a/c on, ceiling fans, desk fan etc…Article should say white noise fan, I thought this was a small nightstand fan.

  9. paul

Okay, in no way is this a replacement for using a fan for its primary purpose. I can just imagine it now “Honey, turn up the simulated fan noise generator, because it’s as hot as Hades in here.” LOL

    • Christine

  10. brittanyrunda

In Florida here ac goes out often due to storms and ac issues I don’t think I could ever part with my box fans. Lol

  11. krh21

Nothing replaces a beloved box fan. Haha

  12. Laurie

If you have a snoring spouse I HIGHLY recommend the LectroFan! It’s saved our marriage. You can put the volume really high and drown out that annoying snoring noise so you can sleep.
I have 2 — one for home and 1 for travel.

    • kate-1

U shld have him checked sleep apnea! My husband was a horrible snorer (yes its a word 😉) and come to find out he had sleep apnea really bad & it was enlarging his heart. Just a thought as I HATE snoring too.

      • ohjodi

Yes, he could literally die in his sleep, or have a stroke, etc.

    • ohjodi

He needs a CPAP machine! He’s literally suffocating in his sleep. Get the Amara View cpap mask….he will barely know he’s wearing it.

  13. talbotkn

Is the mini version as loud as the Classic?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

      Yes they seem very comparable!

      • talbotkn

        Thank you!

  14. Lissa

Even in the dead of winter I need to hear the sound of the fan and have it’s air blowing on my face. I may have to pile extra blankets on me, but the fan stays on. I always sleep well though.

    • Polly

      Same here

  15. Beach Is My Happpy Place

I use an LectroFan Sound Machine when going out of town. When staying in a condo or hotel the air conditioner is lowered enough to keep cool. I have to have white noise to sleep. My husband and I sleep with floor fan and Ceiling fan at home. This “fan” is perfect with different settings to meet everyone’s need for white noise. I love it!!!

  16. Evie

So noise is relaxing white music? I use a fan to cool and circulate the air. Clean, fresh air is important!
Separate rooms are good for snorers and the ones who like watching tv late at night! Ear plugs work good too!
I like herbal teas and melatonin for sleep!

  17. bmiles

Just bought one. My husband wants to replace his boxy box fan!

  18. Scarlet B

I use my fan … as a fan.

    • marquila185

Me too.. are we the weird ones? 🤔

  19. Li

I saw this and it’s so cute, but I think I’m the only person who has to have COMPLETE silence and darkness when I sleep….out in 5 minutes every night 😴 my mother-in-law moved in with us last year and she swears by a sound machine, looks like a great birthday gift for her!!!

  20. Flgrl017

They have free white noise apps for your phone. That’s what I’ve been using for years. I used to take a fan with me when I traveled 😂.

  21. rach980

I am also a white noise sleeper- can’t sleep without my hepa filter running! If I may, I’d suggest getting a hepa filter instead of a fan or noise device. We have a Honeywell in the hallway between bedrooms, and besides how I can only sleep with that running for the white noise, I saw a HUGE decrease in how often my family was getting colds since running that thing 24-7.

  22. Sue

I like my fan and love the breeze.

  23. websaver

We have had several LectroFan Sound Machines for a few years now. Our whole family loves them and uses them every night! I even bought the travel size one a few years ago and it is perfect for having the same white noise on vacation without the bulkiness of the regular size – it fits easily in your suitcase.
Just a tip – these machines aren’t super cheap, so I suggest you try a white noise app on your phone first to see if that works well for you — in which case you won’t need to buy anything else. And obviously some people prefer fans, at least at home.
