Here are just a few ways to use the Mama of Joy Magnetic Scavenger Hunt sensory bin:
- Literacy
- Look for the letters in their name
- Find letters that have a straight line, letters that have a curve, etc.
- Find letters of one color
- Bend pipe cleaners into letters
- Math
- Count rice scoops
- Bend pipe cleaners into numbers
- Add/subtract links
- Count the number of pom-poms, pipe cleaners, stars, etc.
- Fine Motor
- Connect the colored links
- Use the scooper to collect ONLY pom-poms, pipe cleaners, stars, etc.
- Use their finger to write letters in the rice
- Use pincer grasp to collect only the stars, pom-poms, pipe cleaners, etc.
- Imaginative Play
- Imagine it’s an ice cream stand: the rice is the ice cream, pom-poms are cherries, etc.
- Go on a treasure hunt & cover all the pieces with rice
- Build a ‘castle’ or ‘mountain’

AND no matter which sensory bin you scoop up, this Blindfold Scavenger Hunt idea can be used with all of them!
All you need is a blindfold and whatever sensory bin you have! Have kiddos describe random objects they pick up, or prompt them by saying: “Find something round. Find something smooth. Find something soft”. It doesn’t get any more sensory than cutting off one of their senses and challenging them to use their other skills in a fun way!
*This activity was something my kiddos and I quickly came up with all on our own, which just goes to show you how open-ended these sensory bins truly are.
It’s the authenticity for me.
