Most of the time, I’m over here sharing the best deals with you, but today I wanted to share something a little more personal.

At the beginning of June 2026, I decided to try tirzepatide, a peptide-based treatment I’d been hearing more and more about. And honestly, I was nervous. Like, REALLY nervous. I Googled, read articles, scrolled social media, went down Reddit rabbit holes… and probably scared myself more than anything else. 😅

I had so many questions. Would I have side effects? Would I feel exhausted? Would I actually notice a difference? And most of all, would it even be worth it?

After a few months on this journey, I finally feel ready to share what it’s actually been like for me. And surprisingly, some of the biggest changes have had very little to do with the number on the scale.

Before and after peptide

For me, this wasn’t just about losing weight.

I had been dealing with some pretty frustrating sciatic pain, and eventually it got so bad that I ended up in the hospital. That experience was a huge wake-up call and really made me think more seriously about my health, how I felt in my body, and how I wanted to feel years from now.

At the same time, I was dealing with something I didn’t even realize had such a big impact on me until it started changing: food noise.

I thought about food constantly. What was I going to eat? When was I going to eat? What snacks were around? Should I grab another bite? Even though I was exercising and trying to eat better, I felt like food took up SO much mental space.

I also wasn’t seeing the changes I wanted from all the effort I was putting in, and if I’m being completely honest, my confidence was taking a hit too. I wasn’t looking for some magical fix. I just wanted to feel better, have more control over my choices, and feel like the work I was putting into myself was actually getting me somewhere.

So I decided to give it a try.

Holding Terzepatide bottle

I was SO nervous about my first injection.

I had read enough horror stories online that I had basically convinced myself I was going to spend the next week feeling miserable. I worried about nausea, exhaustion, feeling weak, and all the other things I’d seen people talking about online.

And with two young kids, being completely wiped out wasn’t exactly an option. So there I was before my first injection thinking, Am I really about to do this?

But I did. And then… nothing dramatic happened.

I actually slept really well that first night. Was that because of the medication? I honestly have no idea. But after spending so much time preparing myself for the worst, I remember waking up almost suspicious that I felt completely normal. 😆

The first change I really noticed wasn’t the scale.

Over the next couple of weeks, I started realizing my appetite just felt different. I wasn’t suddenly uninterested in food, and I still got hungry and enjoyed eating. I just wasn’t thinking about it nearly as much.

I stopped mindlessly grabbing bites off my kids’ plates. I wasn’t constantly planning my next meal or wandering into the kitchen looking for something else to snack on. When I was hungry, I ate, and when I felt satisfied, it suddenly felt easier to stop.

Somewhere around weeks two or three, it hit me that the food noise had gotten REALLY quiet.

That has honestly been one of the biggest surprises for me. I didn’t realize how exhausting it was to think about food so often until those thoughts started fading into the background.

And yes, I started noticing physical changes too.

I started seeing movement on the scale around the second week, which was definitely exciting after feeling like I’d been putting in so much effort without seeing much change.

But as the weeks went on, I realized I was paying attention to a lot more than my weight. I became much better at recognizing when I was actually hungry and when I’d had enough.

I come from a Latino family where finishing your plate is just what you do, so being able to eat until I’m satisfied and then stop without feeling like I have to finish everything has actually been a pretty big deal for me.

My energy has generally been really good. I’m currently working out five days a week, including three days of weightlifting, and I still have the energy to keep up with my kids. When my dose increased, I did notice some fatigue for a day or two, but thankfully that passed pretty quickly. My sleep has felt more consistent too, and overall I just feel more aware of what my body is telling me.

I even recently had another episode of sciatic pain. After how severe my previous episode had been, I was nervous, but thankfully this one was much more manageable at home with over-the-counter medication.

I can’t say for sure that had anything to do with the medication, but the experience made me realize how much my mindset has shifted. I’m not only focused on what the scale says anymore. I’m paying attention to my strength, energy, movement, sleep, and what my body can actually handle in everyday life.

And okay… can I be a little superficial for a second?

I HAVE A JAWLINE AGAIN. 😆

I haven’t seen that girl in a while, and she has officially decided to make a comeback. Of course I care about my health and how I feel, but I’d be lying if I said noticing changes in the mirror hasn’t been fun too.

So, what exactly am I taking?

I’m taking a compounded formulation containing tirzepatide and L-carnitine. Tirzepatide acts on GLP-1 and GIP receptors, which are involved in things like blood sugar regulation, appetite, and food intake. My particular formulation also includes L-carnitine, something our bodies naturally produce that plays a role in transporting fatty acids so they can be used for energy.

I’m sharing exactly what I take because I know that would have been one of my first questions too. That doesn’t mean my particular medication or formulation is right for everyone, and it’s definitely something to discuss with a qualified medical provider based on your own health history and needs.

Where do I order from?

I get my tirzepatide through Ellie MD. I first started looking into them after reading Collin’s post about her own experience. Knowing she had already gone through the process herself and had a good experience made me feel a lot more comfortable than I would have ordering from a company I knew nothing about.

I still did my own research, of course, but one of my biggest concerns was making sure I wasn’t just ordering something from a random website and then being left to figure everything out on my own.

I also really liked how easy the whole process was. Everything is done virtually, which was a big plus for me. I filled out the medical assessment online, submitted my information, and then a licensed medical provider reviewed it. In my experience, the review happened really quickly, within the same day, so I wasn’t sitting around wondering what happened next.

I also appreciated that I didn’t have to schedule an awkward appointment or get on a video call just to get started. Obviously, the provider may reach out if they need additional information, but for me, the whole process felt very simple and low-pressure.

Once my prescription was approved, it was sent to a U.S.-based compounding pharmacy and shipped directly to me. Mine arrived really quickly too. I don’t want to promise everyone will have the exact same turnaround time, but my experience from filling everything out to receiving my order was surprisingly fast.

And can we talk about the packaging? 😍 My medication arrived cold and packed inside a reusable water bottle with ice packs, which I thought was such a nice touch. It also came with everything I needed to get started, including the syringes, alcohol swabs, and supplies, so I wasn’t suddenly realizing I needed to go buy five other things before I could even use it.

One of my biggest concerns before starting was feeling like I’d be handed medication and then left on my own to figure everything out. That hasn’t been my experience. I’ve liked knowing there’s a medical provider I can reach out to when I have questions instead of immediately going down another Google rabbit hole. 🙃

What does it cost?

And because this is Hip2Save, I want to mention the money side too. Ellie MD’s GLP treatments currently starts at around $230 per cycle, depending on your treatment plan and medication. Note that tirzepatide is called  GLP-1/GIP on Ellie MD.

It’s definitely an investment, but for me, I also look at it against what I was already spending on different supplements and wellness products for appetite, cravings, metabolism, weight management, and all the other things I was hoping would help.

Since starting my GLP, I personally haven’t felt the need to keep buying as many of those extra products, so that’s been part of how I look at the overall cost too.

The biggest change for me hasn’t just been weight loss.

When I started this, I thought I’d mostly be paying attention to the scale.

Instead, I’m noticing my energy, my workouts, my hunger cues, my confidence, how my clothes fit, how my body feels, and honestly, how much quieter my brain feels around food.

That’s why this has felt so meaningful to me.

I know my experience won’t be everyone’s experience, and GLP medications aren’t right for everyone. But if you’re where I was a few months ago, Googling everything and wondering what this actually feels like for a real person, I hope sharing my experience helps you feel a little less overwhelmed.

For me, this has been about so much more than weight loss. I feel stronger, more confident, more in control, and more like myself again.

And I’m honestly really excited to see where I am a few months from now. ❤️

I’ll keep updating this post as I continue, because I know when I was researching all of this, these were exactly the kinds of real-life details I wanted to hear from someone actually going through it.

A quick note: The compounded formulation I’m taking is not FDA-approved. This is my personal experience and not medical advice. Please do your own research and talk with a qualified healthcare professional about the potential risks, benefits, side effects, and whether a GLP-1 medication is appropriate for you.

Thank you for posting this. It’s very helpful.
You mentioned $230 per cycle. Is a cycle about one month?

    • Krystal (Hip Sidekick)

Hey Kerri! I’m so glad it was helpful! 💕 A cycle is typically 4 weeks, depending on your treatment plan and medication.

  2. Elysia ?

Question- Do they have someone on staff to help if you get side effects like nausea… etc

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Yes! You have ongoing access to a prescribing physician/care team during treatment. ❤️

  3. David

Thank you for writing this. I do have 2 questions. How long do you have to be on it? And what happens when you stop taking it. Thanks for any help you can give me.

    • Krystal (Hip Sidekick)

Hi David! Thank you so much! 😊 As far as how long you stay on it, that can really vary from person to person and depends on your treatment plan and how your body responds. For some people, it may be a longer-term medication rather than something you take for a set amount of time.

As for stopping, that can vary too. Some people may notice their appetite and food noise return, and weight regain can happen after stopping, which is why it’s important to talk with your healthcare provider about a plan that makes sense for you. For me personally, I’ve learned so much along the way, changed my eating habits, and picked up a few tricks that have helped me understand my body and hunger cues better. I’m hoping those are things I can carry with me long-term, regardless of what my treatment eventually looks like.

I’m still on my own journey, so I can only speak to my personal experience, but I hope that helps! ❤️

Nobody should be using this company is a multilevel marketing company that is their structure, so would you buy your medication‘s from Amway? Seek out a wellness center in your area that you can actually go and get actual health guidance and coaching. I have seen so many bad things happen from these places and there’s nobody watching to make sure that you don’t have side effects such as pancreatitis that can affect your life for ever. Please stop using online companies.
