1. Ninja 4-Quart Air Fryer, AF100

Ninja Air Fryer

Buy it at Walmart$109

According to Consumer Reports tests, this Ninja Air Fryer was a top performer! They also said that the preprogrammed settings were among the easiest to see and use giving it an excellent rating. However, they did state it’s on the noisy side.

Here’s what else you’re going to love about it:

  • Wide temperature range of 105°F–400°F
  • 4-quart ceramic-coated nonstick basket
    • Can hold up to 2 lbs of french fries
  • 4 different cooking functions
    • Air fry, roast, dehydrate and reheat
  • Dishwasher safe for easy cleanup

Here’s what one 5-star reviewer said about her Ninja Air Fryer:

“I love to cook again! This air fryer has converted me and now I’m an avid advocate of this Ninja Air Fryer! Before I bought it, I’ve never used any appliance remotely similar to this. It’s so easy to use and the instructions are easy to follow. It’s now my go-to for everything! I have made breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner and it even does much more than air fry. It’s great to reheat food, like pasta, chicken, rice, and beans and it air fries everything from home fries, beef patties, bacon to chicken. Anything you normally fry can be just as good without all the oil. I also love the roast feature to cook meats, casseroles, stews, soup, and even desserts.

Clean-up couldn’t be easier too since it’s a non-stick surface and can go in the dishwasher. The timer is adjustable, easy to read and extremely useful and even has a helpful beeper when food is done. This is a wonderful unit. I finally got rid of my greasy deep fryer and I’m so happy with this alternate oil-free cooking method.”

– Ashley ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“This air fryer is AWESOME! So far we’ve made onion rings, fries and chicken nuggets. They were crispy and delicious! It was so weird not seeing a ton of grease come off of them but still having the same deep-fried flavor which I think actually tasted even better!

One of the features that also sold me was how many people seemed to love that it had analog switches and not digital – no unnecessary bells and whistles and it works great. This machine was SO easy to use too – just turn the timer on and choose your temperature – that’s it! This was a GREAT purchase for our family!”

– Jessica B. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

how does everyone clean their air fryer??? i feel like i can never get mine clean enough!

    • Juliee

Jade, I know. I feel the same way. My method is to fill it with warm, soapy water as soon as I’m done cooking, then after eating I’ll attack it with more soapy water and soft paper towel. I don’t like scrubbing with abrasive for fear of pulling off the ceramic coating. I don’t like spraying with cooking spray because the build up is awful. I coat the surface in Crisco before cooking when I expect a mess. I’ve also heard you can get parchment liners for it?? That would help a lot. My fan is on top, so I can also line the tray with foil.

  2. Jennifer

I ordered my daughter a Wolfgang Puck air fryer from a deal I saw here back in May. I don’t have an air dryer myself because I don’t want anything taking up more real estate in my kitchen, but my daughter loves hers! It is her most used appliance and it’s seems like I paid a little over $50 for it. It is one of the extra large capacity ones.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

So glad to hear how much she likes it, Jennifer! Thanks!

  3. Gisette

I let my hubby talk me into to buying one and I’m sorry I wasn’t impressed as many of you have been. If you’re cooking different connivence foods ( French fries, pizza rolls, wings)by the time you finish with the second batch the first batch of food is getting cold. Now our just sits on our counter collecting dust 🤣🤷🏼‍♀️

  4. Zoe

Posts like this are awesome and so informative. The product featured here is spot on as there are not enough resources on air fryers out there still. This comparison info is so helpful! Thanks!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You are SO very welcome, Zoe! Thanks a ton for the feedback! Super glad you are loving this list!

  5. Amelia

Wait…. what?!?? Air fryers reheat?? We don’t have a microwave…or a toaster oven!! Which one should I look at for my large family??

    • Jennifer

A microwave, IMO😂. To me, a larger family would benefit greatly from a microwave first, then an air fryer maybe later on.

      • Amelia

🤣😂. We got rid of our microwave 5 years ago for health reasons. I don’t miss it but my boys definitely do.

    • krystal

I LOVE the one from costco. It’s big and powerful with no preheat time. Plus I like that it had the costco guarantee… if I didnt like it or it breaks they return it without problems

    • Chrissy8080

I’d say an air fryer before a microwave!! We use our to heat everything. We very rarely use or microwave anymore. Everything comes out crispy and amazing…healthy and not so healthy foods!!

  6. Charlotte's Mom

We own both the Power Air Fryer XL and the Breville. The Breville was a wedding gift so it is going on 9 years and still going strong. It’s a pricey investment, but it more than pays for itself with its longevity. We were gifted the Power Air Fryer last year and while it doesn’t replace the Breville for us, it’s still a must-have in our kitchen. We like the Breville’s size and functionality (and previously mentioned long life) – it can tackle anything! We like the Air Fryer for the even cooking and ease of whipping up quick snacks (pizza rolls, fish sticks, nuggets, fries, etc.) I don’t put these items in the Breville because they come out crispier (and quicker for impatient, hungry kids) in the air fryer. With these two kitchen staples, I barely use our full-size oven – I’m talking once a year for Thanksgiving, maybe.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Thank you for telling us so much about your experience with your air fryers!

    • Amelia

What’s a Breville?? I’m like…one step ahead of the Amish when it comes to gadgets. 😂🤣. I’m trying to ease into 2019…😂🤣.

  7. Paulina

Instant Brands has come out with their own Air Fryers, the Vortex, Vortex Plus, Omni and soon the Omni Plus will be released.

  8. Casey

I have a Corsair and I absolutely LOVE IT. Can’t imagine life without it now.

  9. CJ

I got a basket type of air fryer a few years ago and I loved it except that I couldn’t cook enough food for my family of 5. And we loved it for fries as well as chicken strips but I had to do them in batches so stuff got cold waiting. THEN I got the Power AirFryer (8qt) and it was a game-changer! I bought the extra racks so I can stack stuff in there and even have a rack waiting for more if necessary. I use it literally every day (numerous times a day). It does take up counter space, but I ditched my toaster oven since this works better. It is my one MUST-HAVE kitchen appliance! https://www.powerairfryer.com

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

I can imagine the large one like that is much easier with a big family! Thanks for sharing, CJ!

  10. nita

I’ve been the tooting horn for air fryers for years, when Philips 1st made theirs.. I still use Philips and it’s a game changer! I swear by it and tell anyone I can but now pretty much everyone makes one and everyone has one, so definitely imo anything that replaces a microwave and cooks without oil and cooks faster and stuff tastes better works for me!

  11. becky

Power Air Fryer XL and Pressure cooker I bought within a month of each other. The pressure cooker still works fine. The air fryer lasted just over a year (kicked the bucket right after the warranty was out) So now I have my mom’s cause she hated it.. If I had to buy another one I would buy a different brand

  12. Weronika

I have the Ninja air fryer and I like. Very easy to clean and just the right size for 2 people. What I don’t like is the temperature adjustment, jumps in 15 degree increments.
Last week I bought Instant Omni (made by the same brand as Instant Pot) and I really love it. No ptfe and pfoa and it is big. I keep and use them both but Omni is more versatile.

  13. Kristen

I have the number 3 air fryer and its so amazing ! Its awesome I can’t say enough how much my family loves it ! also I’m pretty sure its on sale for 49.99 right now at Target … cook pizza in it and tator tots and frozen chicken nuggets makes em so crispy !

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

So glad to hear how awesome it is! Thanks, Kristen!

  14. cliftonmcbee

Buy a 6qt or larger, you cannot load up the baskets like a deep fryer. We have 2 air fryers in our kitchen, we like to do chicken or fish in 1 and fries in the other, this way everything comes out at the same time. Reheating pizza has never been the same, pop your pizza in the air fryer and it come out like you JUST bought it from your favorite pizza place. These cool bacon, chicken, fish, really anything.

  15. Sharon

Do any of these have that initial out-gassing of plastic the first few times you use it? Have read reviews of some where folks say it ruins the taste of the food. Or does the non-stick coating start to peel off after time? I may have to get one of those glass air fryers I read about to avoid all this. lol

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

I have the number 5 (Nuwave) and never had any funny smells/tastes or plastic. I am also not having issues with the non-stick coating and I’ve had mine for a year, Sharon.

      • Sharon

Thanks, I hope to soon finally take the plunge and get one.

      • Sharon

Ok, I took the plunge! Ordered the model you suggested and it was on sale, then had 10 off 50 plus 30% off and getting $10 Kohls cash, plus another $5 in Kohls cash when I pick it up! Woohoo! I love these type deals! Hip2save rocks!

  16. Christine

I bought the huge air fryer from JCP, Cooks, and it’s awesome. Easy to clean and I can put a whole rack of ribs in there or a bag of frozen chicken wings no problem.

  17. Aimee

I have a magic chef one and love it. I highly recommend a bigger one…I couldn’t imagine using something smaller than 5.6qt.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks so much for the helpful recommendation, Aimee!

  18. kadysiga

Has anyone purchased the Frigidaire oven with air fry function? I am in the market for a new oven, and like the idea of more room and one less appliance. I think it is new, though, and all the reviews I find are part of a promotion. I hesitate to spend that much on something that might not be all it seems to be. TIA, and thank you for all your helpful posts!

  19. Christi

I have a family of 6, so we bought the Power Air Fryer Oven and love it, we use the fry basket to make Jicama fries and the rotisserie option all the time for chicken and game hens. I also love that it has multiple trays so I can fill it quite full and the food isn’t cooking on plastic. The best deal I could find at the time is to buy when Kohl’s has cash back deals and I used a credit card that extends the warranty by two years, just in case, but so far, no issues.

  20. CGY

I have the Power Air Fryer XL and I’ve not been impressed at all. I use it to heat french fries, cheese sticks, fish sticks, and similar items. Yes, they do come out crispy but I find if I try to do more than a single layer without items overlapping much, they come out unevenly crispy–some parts almost burned and others undercooked. As others have said, having to spread the fries (or other items) out in a single layer and cooking multiple batches isn’t exactly convenient–baking in the oven would be less time. Am I missing something? All the photos show full baskets of perfectly crisped fries. The couple of times I tried to do a half-full basket, I even moved the fries around a bit midway through the cook cycle to get the ones in the middle out near the edges–still came out unevenly cooked. Wondered whether the position of the fan has anything to do with how evenly it cooks.
