Let’s cash in some rewards!

When it comes to the best credit card rewards, there are tons of benefits you can reap depending on the card you choose. From travel benefits to cashback, you can enjoy some amazing bonuses while building up your credit score. As long as you’re on top of your timely payments, of course!

It’s important to note that using a credit card often can be a massive gamble if you overspend or cannot keep up with payments. Please keep this in mind and try to only spend what you can pay back, and always talk to a financial adviser if you have any questions on whether a certain credit card makes sense for you.

1. Capital One Venture Card

Best travel rewards.

As a new cardmember, the Venture card will greet you with 75,000 bonus miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first three months of your account opening. With that many miles, you can easily get a flight up to $500 in value! In addition to this, you’ll earn 2 miles per dollar with every purchase and 5 miles per dollar on hotels and rentals if you book with Capital One Travel.

With an annual fee of $95, all rewards you get with Capital One’s Venture card are straightforward and easy to redeem! If you’re looking for a $0 annual fee, check out the VentureOne card, where you’ll receive 1.25 miles per dollar and 20,000 miles if you spend $500 in the first three months of opening your card.

It’s important to note that if you’re loyal to only one airline, this card might not be best for you. It is, however, great for general travel and has rewards for tons of different airlines. Many airlines actually have their own credit cards in collaboration with trusted banks, so, if you only love one specific airline, it’s best to opt for their own branded card.

2. Blue Cash Everyday American Express

Best no annual fee credit card.

With the Blue Cash Everyday Card by American Express, you’ll pay no annual fee. You’ll also earn $250 back when you spend $2,000 within the first six months. Upon signing up, you’ll also take advantage of low APR and reduced plan fees for the first 15 months of your account when you pay large purchases in monthly installments with Plan It by American Express.

This is a great card for families too, as you’ll receive 3% cash back on groceries, 3% on gas, 3% at retail stores, and 1% on other purchases. With any American Express card, you’ll be able to redeem membership points with every Amazon purchase when you link your American Express Card to your Amazon.com account. You can sometimes pay your entire Amazon order off with points you’ve earned by paying off your credit card!

3. Citi Custom Cash Card

Best cash back credit card.

With a Citi Custom Cash Card, you’ll grab 5% cash back on purchases in your highest eligible spend category. This means the places you spend the most often will give you the most cash back! Talk about a card that rewards you for being, well, YOU! These eligible categories include streaming services, restaurants, grocery stores, select travel expenses, and more.

You’ll also earn $200 cash back after you spend $1,500 on purchases in the first 6 months of account opening. The only downside is it’s limited to up to $500 cashback so if you exceed that, you’ll just get 1% cash back. All of that said, there’s no annual fee making this still a solid choice. 🙌

4. Discover It Secured Credit Card

Best credit card for new or rebuilding credit.

Discover It Secured Credit Card is perfect specifically for anyone looking to start or rebuild credit. The biggest advantage is there’s no credit score required to apply, and you set your own line of credit. To apply, you submit a refundable security deposit.

That amount will be the amount of your line of credit, and the original deposit will be refunded to you after 7 consistent on-time payments throughout 6 months of good status on all credit cards you have. There’s no annual fee, and it’s a simple yet effective method to build your credit score in a timely manner.

5. Chase Freedom Unlimited

Best overall rewards credit card.

Chase has two Freedom cards with similar benefits. With Chase Freedom Unlimited, you’ll earn 5% cash back on gas and you can get up to $600 cashback in your first year. You’ll also get a $200 bonus after spending $500 in the first three months of opening your card.

Furthermore, you’ll get 5% cash back on travel purchases, 3% on dining at restaurants and drugstore purchases, and more. Unlike other credit cards, your cash-back promotions won’t expire, so you’re basically getting cashback for almost everything you purchase. There’s also zero annual fee and tons of protection benefits.

Anyone know why many cards dont offer the option to apply with a JOINT applicant?

  2. JJ

I have a Capital One Venture credit card and love it! If you decide to apply for a card, *please* use this link https://capital.one/35eaox9; if you’re approved, you get bonus miles and I’ll get a referral bonus. <3

  3. Diane

You can have an authorized user on your account. They get their own card and can start building their own credit history. We did this with each of our children when they were in middle school. We gave them the card whenever we thought they might have unanticipated expenses for instance a school trip. Of course you need to pay off their bill or you will ruin their credit.

    • CourtA

That actually doesn’t work on the Capital One Venture card. I was going to add my 20 year-old son so he could start building credit, but the card number would be the same as mine and Capital One doesn’t report separately on an authorized user’s activity, so it won’t help him.

  4. BrianaKing

We have a Citi Double Card, and we get 2% cash back on ever single purchase. I also use my American Express Preferred card for all gas and groceries because I get 5% back in those categories.

Does anyone know if the amazon card is any good?

    • Paul

I’ve had one for years and love it. When linked to your Amazon account the points are automatically applied to your bill. If you save your points, you can get alk your Christmas shopping for free!

    • Annie

I don’t use it outside of Amazon purchases, but it is fantastic for that. No annual fee and 5% back on amazon purchases with Prime.

    • Jadie

I have the visa chase card from Amazon and its good if you shop a lot on amazon because you get a percentage back in points for every dollar you spend that can go towards your purchases.

I like: Amazon Prime card for all Amazon purchases (5% cash back) + Starbucks card (can earn stars when signing up for 30 drinks + a free drink a month – has an annual fee, but worth it in my opinion) + Amex that fits your needs (currently use Platinum – hefty annual fee but benefits outweigh the cost and 100k bonus points offer for signup).

We love using reward cards for travel. Haven’t paid for flights in years. Makes it easy cheaper to get out of town.

Amex preferred is best for gas 3% and groceries 6% back, 6% back streaming, and 1% back on everything else. Lots of great offers on the credit card too, like half off Walmart +, small business Saturday, and etc. https://refer.amex.us/SARAHWH0iM?XL=MIACP $350 cashback reward

    • Amy

Yes, I have the AmEx blue preferred, and it is FANTASTIC. Plus, I often use the card when I am planning to travel for peace of mind, and they automatically determine that I will be traveling and send me an email reminding me about services that might be relevant. There is an annual fee, but we easily get double or triple that in rewards/credits every year.

I also got the Chase Prime card to link with my Amazon. Didn’t even realize it gave me 2% back at drug stores, but I use that all the time. They used to run a promotion around Prime Day where you got a $100 Amazon gift card on sign-up. Note that you need to have your own Amazon Prime in order to get the most out of the card, so if you share with another household, you may have difficulty. It links directly to the Prime subscriber’s account and I think only that subscriber gets the full cash back.

The Brand New Capital One Venture X Card has an amazing 100k sign up bonus with a $300 travel credit every year and a one time $200 Airbnb credit! So the card is a big money maker the first year! And then every year on your anniversary you get another $300 travel credit and 10k bonus miles. That totally offsets the $395 fee making it a “free” card with lots of perks and benefits! The big sign up bonus is going away on 3/14/22 so get it quick! Here’s my Venture X referral link: https://capital.one/3MqRGFR

    • rae

Yes! This is the best travel card right now. An the Priority Pass (free also for authorized users) saves us $100 on food and drinks every trip. My son and I travel a lot, so the “free” cards don’t really provide as much value as the Venture X.

    • Christian H Oehlberg

Vacations and travel cost a lot of money. Many people are trying to struggle on the budget they do have. It is a deal for the travel fanatics only.

I looked up the Chase Freedom Unlimited. There’s also option for Chase Freedom Flex. Comparing the two, would u agree with me that the Flex is better than the Unlimited?
