Most standard insurance covers around two to four mastectomy bras per year. Call the number on the back of your insurance card to verify your specific coverage.

Medicare partially covers the cost of prosthetics and mastectomy bras deemed necessary by a doctor. You may be required to pay 20% of the cost. Medicaid coverage varies by state so contact your state Medicaid office for more information on which items are covered.

Here are 5 highly-rated mastectomy bras (plus some alternative options):

1. Try the CareFix Mary Front Close Post-Op Mastectomy Bra before you buy.

The CareFix Mary Post-Op Mastectomy Bra in Nude

CareFix Mary Front Close Post-Op Bra – Starting as low as $49 shipped*

*Eligible for Amazon Prime Try Before You Buy

This latex-free bra conveniently comes with a hook and eye closure in the front. It also contains bilateral pockets that can hold prosthetics. The only major con is that it is recommended to hand wash, but several reviewers mention they were able to machine wash and dry without issue. Best of all, you can try before you buy

“Couldn’t have gotten by without it. Having had a bilateral mastectomy and two reconstruction surgeries, this item has been absolutely invaluable for me. It’s comfortable, supportive, and well-made. I have three of them! The medium is a bit smaller than I would expect for a medium, but it is quite stretchy while still maintaining support.”

An alternative option suggested by those with mastectomies is from Fruit of the Loom.

2. Need a mastectomy sports bra? AnaOno makes a highly-rated one.

The AnaOno Mastectomy Sports Bra

Want a mastectomy sports bra worth the money? AnaOno is one of the top brands for post-surgery clothing and it’s now available at Target. Their soft and supportive sports bra provides compression and features a cooling mesh back. We love that it has no underwire and has convertible straps so you can wear it in multiple ways. It also has pockets for inserts, modesty pads, or balance forms.

“Amazing bra. Purchased for my sister diagnosed with breast cancer. She said most comfortable and best bra ‘ever.'”

The brand Amoena has made a name for itself in post-surgery garments. They sell several top-rated bras, including the Barbara Strapless Mastectomy Bra. It’s a discreet pocketed bra that has soft silicone to help keep it in place when wearing strapless. It also comes with removable elastic straps (matching and clear) that you can attach when you need extra support. This bra is eligible for the Amazon Try Before You Buy feature so Prime members can test it out before paying for it!

“The best you’ll find!!!! After complications with my double-mastectomy & reconstruction, I needed a strapless bra that could fit and support a prosthetic. Ladies, this one is WORTH the money! The pocketed construction fit my prosthetic perfectly and they’re no bra gap. Even if you don’t have a prosthetic like me, the mesh lining is so soft and contours your chest very well! The Cup size is moderate and the band is lined with silicone with a 3-prong closure style. Super secure! Clear straps are included for extra support if desired. I’m a 34A and purchased a 34A. Fits like a glove!!!”

4. Seeking a mastectomy bra that offers gentle compression? Try the Anita Lynn.

The Anita Lynn Mastectomy Bra

Anita Lynn Mastectomy Bra – Starting as low as $46 shipped

This super soft undergarment offers you the compression you need post-surgery. This is a stylish and sporty bra that’s ideal for those who want to avoid a racerback design. The adjustable straps are a bit wider for added support. It also comes with removable foam cups and breast form pockets on both sides so you can use it whether you had a double, single, or partial mastectomy. The attractive design and pretty color options are just icing on the cake!

“Comfortable and natural. I am a 37-year-old mom of three who underwent a double mastectomy without reconstruction earlier this year. I had a very hard time finding bras for prosthetics at a reasonable price. These are comfortable, easy to put on, and they do not push my prosthetics into an unnatural uni-boob. The only thing I do not like is that the zipper on the top in the font bulges out a bit and can be seen sticking up under some of my shirts. Otherwise, great bra.”

Another top-rated selection is the BRABIC Compression Bra.

5. Clasique makes some of the best comfortable mastectomy bras, like this seamless cotton option.

A Clasique Seamless Comfort Undergarment

Clasique Seamless Sleek Cotton Comfort Bra – Starting as low as $39.10 shipped

This sleek, seamless bra provides optimal comfort and support for those post-surgery. The pockets are well-sized and can easily fit prosthetics for larger-breasted women. It’s fantastic for everyday wear and gets rave reviews from breast cancer survivors.

“Perfect! Finally, the perfect mastectomy bra. Nothing revolutionary here but it’s just what it should be; soft, comfortable, and modestly priced. My favorite thing is how easily I can slide my prostheses into the pockets. With some, I have to literally cram them in. They just slide right in with this bra. I ordered it in black and loved it so much after trying it on that I came back to order beige. This is the bra for me.”

This lightweight and cozy shirt was specifically designed for those who have undergone a mastectomy. The full zip design allows you easy access to the interior pockets that can hold up to 4 drains (2 on each side) and each pocket comes with hook and loop fasteners to keep everything secure.

“Made life with drains a breeze! I put this on in the hospital almost immediately after my double mastectomy, and the nurses and I all loved it. I had four drains (two on each side), and after emptying them, this shirt lets you just tuck them away and forget about them. MUCH easier to deal with than the usual drain pouch that goes around your waist and gets in the way of pulling your pants up and down. It’s also soft and comfy and warm! Recommend buying one size up than your usual shirt size. You’ll want some extra room for all the tubes to hide away in.”

Thanks for posting. Not sure on some of the items- as most are quite $. (3rd time with BC- now stage 4.) Knitted knockers are awesome- you can knit or crochet a set- and might be very low cost or free. I still have my $10 VS bra that I wear on occassion. BUt do check your insurance- as they might help with the costs of bras, inserts, even swim inserts. HTHs. Thanks for the post… I guess that is that pink month.
