lots of toys in Target shopping cart

Dear Target, we love you most in July! 😍🎯💖

One of the best toy sales you’ll see all year happens every July at Target! Whether you’re planning ahead for birthdays, stocking up for holiday donations, or stashing away early Christmas gifts, these amazing toy deals are too good to pass up!

Read on for everything you need to know, plus the best shopping tips and tricks to score up to 75% off at Target’s huge semi-annual toy sale!

1. Watch for Target’s 2020 toy sale to start in mid-July.

Based on history, you can expect the huge two-week Target toy sale to start in the middle of July, with the biggest 70% discounts coming toward the very end of July. This sale is most likely to start on a Thursday, the day Target stores typically mark down toys.

2. Make your shopping list and nix the toys with bad reviews.

Before you shop Target’s toy sale, do some research ahead of time and read the online toy reviews. Even at the deepest discounts, some buys just aren’t worth your hard-earned cash.

3. Get there when the doors open to score your top toy picks.

This sale is no joke! Customers looking to score the most popular discounted toys are going to arrive early. Beat the crowd by knowing when your store opens and plan to be there early on the first day of the sale. This year, Target may also have more clearance toy inventory available online, too, so you may be able to still shop and save big from home!

4. Know the markdown schedules to save the most.

When the sale starts, toys are typically discounted at 30% off. Over the two-week sale, these discounts usually increase to 50% off, then to 70% off – and some shoppers have seen select toys go straight from 30% off to 70% off!

The most popular toys fly off the shelves fast, so if there’s something you have your eye on, scoop it up at 30% or 50% off so you don’t miss out!

5. Brands that go on sale include LEGO, Barbie, & Fisher-Price, and more!

While the specific toys going on clearance this year won’t be revealed until the sale actually begins, here’s a list of some of the top brands we’ve seen in the past during this sale:

6. Price check using the scanners to possibly save more money.

Employees can’t always keep up with pricing during Target’s big toy sale, so don’t necessarily trust the store’s signage or clearance tags. Scan the actual item you want, and you may be in for a pleasant surprise when you discover an even deeper discount!

7. Save an extra 5% by using your Target REDcard.

If you’re not already a Target REDcard member, now is the time to sign up! Not only will you be able to score up to 70% off toys during Target’s big toy sale, but you’ll also receive an additional 5% off your total. Plus, as a REDcard member, you’ll get exclusive deals and extended returns online and in the store!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      ME TOO! 🙌

  2. Kmarv

Does the sale include scooters (I’m looking to replace my daughters smaller one)?

    • Wendy

I have gotten one in the past.

  3. c melendez

Great post. Although, at least here in Chicago Target scanners are not for use (CO-VID). No dressing room access as well.

    • M

That doesn’t make sense since you don’t actually touch them.

    • Rli

Are you sure it’s not just the red phone that was taken down or covered?

      • Crystal

I work at a target in NC. Our scanners are deactivated bc of Covid….so all the guests have to approach me to get something price checked 🤔

        • confused

That is something I just don’t understand. By making people come up to you to scan items, instead of the price checker scanner, Target has DECREASED the social distancing.🤦‍♀️

        • animity

The rona has made people not use common sense. It is getting ridiculous!

        • orientmom

I also work at target Columbus Ohio and are price scanners are up and running they never shut the down or anything . The fitting room are closed however guess are now allowed to try clothes on over there clothes in store just not fitting room due to violence.they can also try shoes on as long they have socks or stockings on .we do have signs up throughout softlines not to try on anything but they get ripped down and people dont read them. The items that was returned we quaratine items over night then they can go back on floor they do not disinfect them they literally throw them I a fitting room put a sign on door and take out next day .

Darn! Thanks so much for commenting. You may sometimes find the reduced prices when scanning your app. Hoping this helps!

    • kathidawn

Hopefully they will be back on by then as we are slowly getting back to normal.

    • Jaci1717

Im in NW suburb of Chicago same here

    • Nicol

You can use your target app to scan items!

  4. Marlene

If I buy a toy now and then it goes on clearance do they give you back the difference?

    • Susan

No. You can always buy another one at the deeper discounted price and return the first one, but they aren’t going to price adjust your original purchase ever.

  5. Carrie

This sale is when I bought birthday and Christmas toys for my kids when they were younger!! I marked my calendar and went every year! It saved me a ton! It makes me sad that my kids are older and no longer play with these type of toys! I hope those of you with younger kids are able to scoop up some great deals!

  6. Joni

Last year I was disappointed in the toy sale. They didn’t mark down as much. Maybe this year will be more since stock has been sitting on the shelves more than in the past.

  7. MelissaS

Anyone know the day that housewares/linen gets marked down?

    • orientmom

Target Columbus Ohio does not have a pricing team amore so whenever they gwt a team member to do pricing is when they do it however they do update pricing to be marked down weekly but until someone in the store activates it as clearance it will not ring up clearance . They did away with the pricing team.and truck team when they bumped us up to $12 a few years ago . They give us more pay but also extra work that was never mentioned on the news station when they said they are bumping everyone’s pay up.

  8. chantelrebecca1

In the shoe department of my Target there were signs up asking guests not to touch or try on the shoes. They didn’t have any sort of foot measuring tool or mat. Yeah, that’s going to work.

  9. Nae17

This may be a “your mileage may vary” type sale depending on your state. Here in CA I don’t see this going anything like normal!

  10. Joanna

I don’t see this happening this year, at least in our local target in Florida because most shelves are empty due to delays in shipping.

    • kathidawn

This is what makes me wonder if they will do this sale this year. Shelves are empty and not expected to be filled by then.

  11. MammaK

Was just at Target in Sioux Falls, SD and it looks like they have already started mark downs 30% about 3 isle are done

  12. Priscilla

I do price change at target , they changed
The system it now goes to 50 % then salvage if not sold 🤷🏻‍♀️ Target makes more like that then putting shit at 90%
