Dear Target, I love you most in July!

One of the best toy sales you’ll see all year happens this July at Target! Whether you’re planning ahead for birthdays, stocking up for holiday donations, or stashing away early Christmas gifts, these amazing toy deals are too good to pass up! Read on for everything you need to know + the best shopping tips and tricks to score up to 75% off! 😉

1. Keep your eyes peeled: The huge 2019 Target toy sale starts mid-July.

Based on history, you can expect the huge two-week Target Toy Sale to hit the middle of July, with the biggest 70% discounts toward the very end of July. The sale is most likely to start on a Thursday (the day stores typically mark down toys).

2. Make your shopping list and nix the toys with bad reviews.

Before you shop the sale, read the online toy reviews. Even at the deepest discounts, some buys just aren’t worth your hard-earned cash.

3. Get there as the doors open to score your top toy picks.

This sale is no joke, guys! Customers looking to score the most popular discounted toys are going to arrive early! Beat the crowd by knowing when your store opens and rock and roll the first day of the sale.

4. Know the markdown schedules to save the most.

Historically, when the sale starts, toys are discounted at 30% off. Over the two-week sale, these discounts increase to 50% off, then to 70% off – and some shoppers have seen select toys go straight from 30% off to 70% off!

The most popular fly off the shelves fast, so if there’s something you have your eye on, scoop it up at 30% or 50% off so you don’t miss out!

5. Brands that go on sale include LEGO, Barbie & Fisher-Price.

While the specific toys going on clearance this year won’t be determined until the sale actually hits, here’s a list of some of the top brands we’ve seen in the past during this sale.

6. Price check using the scanners to possibly save more money.

Employees can’t always keep up with pricing during the Big Toy Sale, so don’t necessarily trust the discount sign. Scan the actual clearance tag on the item you want, and you may be in for a bigger sale surprise!

7. Save an extra 5% by using your Target REDcard.

If you’re not already a Target REDcard member, now is the time to sign up! Not only will you be able to score toys up to 70% off during their big toy sale, but you’ll also receive an additional 5% off your total. Plus, as a REDcard member, you’ll get exclusive deals and extended returns online and in the store.

8. Buy a gift card to save up to 5%.

Don’t own a Target REDcard but want to save during the big toy sale? Download the Raise app and purchase a discounted store gift card to score up to 5% (and occasionally more) OFF your purchase! How does this work? Just buy a gift card at a discounted price, and then use it toward your in-store purchase!

For example, if you combine a toy savings of 70% off + a discounted Raise gift card, that’s a possible discount of 75%!

Hip Tip: Buy your gift cards to save during slow times of the year. They disappear quickly during sales!

The past couple of years this clearance “sale” has been almost non existent. They changed from doing a big sweep all at the same time to just randomly marking down random items haphazardly 😞

Thanks for the reminder, hopefully there will be a few bargains, but agreed the sale has been pretty disappointing the past few years.

I agree. It’s a bummer :/ It’s been awhile since I’ve seen any good toy deals during Target’s markdown.

I agree. When my kids were little I used to find a lot of great toys for 75% off. Now the discount only usually goes to 70%, and the selection of toys is not very good. It has not even been worth the trip the last few years, so I only shop the sale if I happen to be at Target for something else. I don’t get my hopes up, so if I find something good it will be a nice surprise.

I agree- my sister is a pediatric PT and is always looking for good toys inexpensive ( she gives a lot away). The last 2 years there has been almost nothing worth it at the 6 Targets we check!

  3. KCha

There were tons of awesome toys at my Target last year so I’m excited!

  4. Monica

There were tons at my target. I start collecting toys to donate for our Toys for Tots. I look forward to the saving 🤗

I recommend scanning your toys even when they aren’t on clearance via the app. A lot of times we’re finding the app is cheaper and Target will adjust the price for you!

There hasn’t been much in my suburban stores worth getting there early for in recent years. Years ago, people would get there early and hit each of the local stores but not so much anymore. Blogs and social media made it way too easy for resellers for a while. I think retailers caught on and adjusted.

70% off with a 5% discounted card is not equal to 75% off. Its 71.5%

    • Elaine Tse

Yes. Discounts are not additive. I’m doing order of operations with my 7 year old.

I thought markdowns at target can’t happen unless an employee in the store scans it and marks it down? Getting there when the doors open won’t do any good then if they don’t start marking down until around noon? Or is this an exception?
