Free Comic Book Day is Coming May 4th (Check Out the 2024 List of FREE Comics!)
Free Comic Book Day 2024 is almost here! Here’s what this fun event is all about!
The 2024 Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) is being held on May 4th and it’s one event you won’t want to miss! Bookstores are handing out FREE comic books and there may be a participating store near you! To find one, enter your zip code into the Free Comic Book Day Store Locator.
In addition to passing out free comics, many local shops celebrate the day with contests, creator signings, photo opportunities with costumed characters, and more!
Be sure to check the “Special Area Events” tab on the Store Locator as there may be more detailed information regarding any special promotions a particular store may be offering today. Last year, one of the comic shops in my area also hosted a canned food drive where you could snag additional free comics in return for your donations. How cool is that?!
Note that there is typically a limit of one free comic book per person, however, some shops may be offering more. A store near me is offering 10 free comics plus 45% discounts on merchandise.
Many stores have included this information under their Free Comic Book Day listing which may help you determine which shop(s) you want to visit.

Free Comic Book Day is designed to encourage those interested to head to their local comic shop. Whether you’re an avid comic book reader or have kids that are curious about comics, you’ll want to check out this event and score a free comic book while you’re at it!
Local comic stores provide a unique experience for the whole family, and you can find more than just comics there, including games, toys, collectibles, trading cards, and so much more.
What titles will be featured during Free Comic Book Day 2024?
Each year, the FCBD sponsor committee chooses a handful of titles, called the Gold Sponsor collection, that you can get for FREE at ALL participating locations on Free Comic Day. This year’s selection is really good!
Here are the titles you can expect to see…
- Blood Hunt X-Men #1 (Marvel Comics) – Get an introduction to this summer’s Blood Hunt which features a crossover with the Avengers. Plus, get a sneak peek at the future of mutantkind!
- Disney’s Encanto: Tall Tales & Turning Red: Panda Problems (Papercutz) – Enjoy new stories of some of your favorite characters. Join Mirabel, Camilo, and Antonio as they battle a bully with a tale of their own. When you’re done with that story, check out Turning Red: Panda Problems where you’ll find out if Meilin Lee can contain her emotions and inner furry self!
- Energon Universe Special (Image Comics) – Dive into three new stories from the Energon Universe. Suitable for new readers and long-term fans.
- Hellboy Stranger Things (Dark Horse PRH) – Hellboy enlists a fortune teller with help solving a murder…but will he like what the psychic sees? Then, join Argyle and Jonathan from Stranger Things as they swap scary tales while delivering pizza.
- Jonny Quest (Dynamite) – Join 11-year-old Jonny Quest on a sci-fi adventure as he travels the globe solving mysteries with his bodyguard, brother, scientist dad, and his faithful dog.
- Pokémon Adventures of Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire + Splattoon 3 (Viz Media, LLC) – Can Sapphire, Emerald, and Ruby stop a meteor headed straight for their home? Plus, join the characters from Nintendo’s Splattoon video games for some all-new adventures!
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (IDW -PRH) – What’s next for TMNT? Our beloved turtles are battling a new masked vigilante and much more! Find out in this comic book that has all-new stories!
- The Worlds of James Tynion IV (Boom Entertainment) – This is a special, curated line-up of James Tynion’s most terrifying stories. It comes with a collectible cover and has a preview of what’s to come!
- Ultimate Universe Spider-Man #1 (Marvel Comics) – The Goblin returns and a new hero emerges! Spider-Man fans will want to see the surprises in this fun comic that is being released before Amazing Spider-Man #50.

What’s the difference between the Gold Comics collection and the Silver Comics collection?
Each year, the FCBD committee chooses the selection of titles that will be available sans cost during Free Comic Book Day. These comics are either considered Gold or Silver.
The Gold Comics that we listed above are FREE books that are available at every single participating location.
The Silver Comics are FREE books that may be available at select locations. The 2024 list of Silver Comics includes notable titles like Archie Horror Presents the Cursed Library Prelude, Flash Gordon #0, and Disney Villains Maleficent #1.
