Thanks for posting. Question: Has anyone done this and cancelled? Curious how easy it really is to cancel; I find some of these super easy to cancel and some are not so much… Just curious b/c it sounds like an AWESOME deal!

    • franny5

Yes I agree but seems like it could be difficult to cancel

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Aliza! Here’s what I found on that –
“You may cancel at any time by notifying calling us at 1-888-965-8737 or emailing us at ICanRead@harpercollinsbookclubs.com.”

      Hope this helps!

    • betsy

I canceled and it was very easy.

    • Julie Hillesh

I cancelled this previously and it was easy.

    • KayshaDanger

I cancelled and it was easy BUT I never got the books I’d ordered in the first place. Honestly after that I wouldn’t bother.

    • Patty D

I canceled via email and it was super easy

    • Doreen D Oachs

You have to cancel a few days after you receive the free books. They send out the next shipment right after you received the free books. If you receive another shipment and don’t want it you can send it back but you will not receive the shipping cost They are very tricky at how they do this I will never send for this again

  2. Liz

Ty hip2save I just got these book as for my grandaughter !

    • logandyerballard

Did you cancel after? Even if not can you share what the cancellation process is?

      • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi there! Here are the details on cancelling –
“You may cancel at any time by notifying calling us at 1-888-965-8737 or emailing us at ICanRead@harpercollinsbookclubs.com.”

        Hoping that helps!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Yay! You’re SO very welcome!

I did this a few weeks ago! The sticker book is really nice in my opinion…lots of activities and stickers that go on corresponding pages. I always worry about how difficult it will be to cancel also. I used a visa gift card with only a few dollars on it to set up my account. That way, even if I had trouble cancelling, I still wouldn’t get charged. Thankfully, It ended up being easy to cancel. I think I just sent them an email, or did it through the online account (I can’t remember now!). I did not make a call.

  4. Amanda

I was able to add on the Pete the Cat sticker book as well as all of those listed in this post. It’s been few days and now I have received a shipping and tracking confirmation, so I set up my online account and then reviewed next month’s offerings. The total would be $25 and compared to the same titles on Amazon coming to $23. I immediately canceled my account no issues, took only seconds.

  5. Maria

    Yes,super easy cancellation!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Yay! That’s great to hear! Thanks for the feedback, Maria!

  6. Lacey

I did this deal in May/June…. I paid via PayPal. I got a confirm order email and never have received any books. I sent them a handful of emails and nothing. I cancelled the subscription deal so I wouldn’t continue to be charged (and that part was easy). Over the weekend I escalated the issue via PayPal in hopes of getting my $6 back (I did the 4 book deal). It looks like I might be a rare unhappy customer…but I’d recommend paying PayPal just in case you need someone to fight for your money back.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Bummer! Sorry to hear about this, Lacey. Thanks for taking a moment to share your experience.

  7. Liz Curtis

I also did the deal back in June & all you have to do is call that number mentioned above & Cancel, they try to get you to stay but I said no & they Canceled it. They will send you a Cancel Email to Confirm.

  8. Bonnie

If your child is in school they can order through scholastic book clubs through their teacher. Most of these books are $2-$4 and shipping is free to their teacher. Plus the teacher earns points for books for their classroom 🙂

    • Kathleen

I second using Scholastic! Bonus points for the teachers to get free books

This is a fantastic series for beginning readers . I highly recommend it. I haven’t tried the service so I can’t comment on that. Beginning readers can easily go through 5-10 books a week ( retired librarian, parent, and grandparent). Research does show that there is great value to a child having their own personal books but if a family is going to buy everything that their child reads it will be costly. I suggest visiting your public library and finding the “starting to read section”. If nothing else you will get an idea of what other series your child might like. A personal favorite is the Rookie Reader series that includes science and nonfiction—some children like fiction others do not. Consider betterworld books as well for super cheap books that support literacy in the US and around the world.

  10. melissa wolfe

This is a good deal . Just a FYI at dollar tree I found a few of these books too.

    • Irene (Hip Sidekick)

That’s awesome, melissa wolfe! Great to know that the Dollar Tree may have these as well!

  11. Laura

I tried this and the cancellation window is 15 days, I believe. I didn’t write that down and I called the day I received the first box of books to cancel, which was after the 15 days and was still charged the first month rate for the second shipment. They gave me option to refuse 2nd box from post man and receive refund minus shipping, which was just easier for me to keep the 2nd box. The first (promo) box and 2nd box came in almost at the same time. I guess that’s how they get ya 😉 You don’t receive the first shipment in time to cancel… but I just swallowed it as an investment in my child’s reading. 🙂

  12. Mary

I ordered months ago and never received the books. I’d pass on this “deal” and pick up a couple at the dollar tree.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh darn! SO sorry to hear that, Mary. Have you been able to contact customer service? 1-888-965-8737
Hoping they may be able to help.

  13. Nicole

Got mine but some of the stuff in the privacy policy I didn’t like. I hope I don’t get charged for more than these two books. I’ll call to cancel before 15 days. Thanks y’all.

  14. bianca romano

I didn’t even sign up for anything. I made a one time purchase and it still charged me $26 a month later. I need to find out the quickest and easiest way to cancel this. I never made an account so I can’t even log in. This seems like a scam to me.
