If you’re looking to score deep discounts on designer brands, Nordstrom Rack is the place to shop! With our simple tips to save money, you can shop the racks with ease and save up to 75% or more on the high-end brands you love.
1. Sign up for the Nordy Club and get rewarded.
As a Nordy Club member (it’s free to sign up!), you’ll get rewarded for your purchases, so if you’re a frequent Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack shopper, it’s definitely worth signing up. Members also get fashion access, exclusive services, and the chance to shop the Clear the Rack sale a day early! 🛍
Nordy Club members earn points every time they shop at Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, HauteLook, or Trunk Club. These points add up to Nordstrom Notes that can be spent on anything (yes, anything!) in the store or online. Members earn one point for every dollar spent, and Nordstrom cardholders will earn three points for every dollar spent. So, the more you spend, the higher your status, and the more rewards you get!
2. Stock up during Clear the Rack events.
Clear the Rack events happen about six times a year, and they’re one of the best times to shop and score deep discounts on those designer brands everyone loves! During the Clear the Rack events, you’ll get an additional 25% off all already reduced red-tag clearance items at the register, for total savings of 75% off or more!
During these events, if you shop in the store, visit the clearance racks at the back of the store and shoes aisles first. While much of the racks showcase Nordstrom Rack merchandise, there may be designer brands mixed in (especially on Designer Row clearance racks!), so be sure to take some time to dig around!
If you don’t have a Nordstrom Rack store nearby, you can still score great online deals during the Clear the Rack events. However, you’ll want to set your alarm for 8am PT as that is when Nordstrom Rack restocks and updates their online website inventory – but it tends to go fast! If shopping online, prices are as marked.
3. Shop for items that came from the main Nordstrom store.
It’s important to know that not everything inside a Nordstrom Rack store is passed down from a full-line Nordstrom. The Rack carries brands that are purchased specifically for them, and generally, these items are not your biggest bargains. To know if you’re getting a designer deal, check the price tags.
If the original white paper price tag says “Nordstrom Rack” at the top (like on the gold ring pictured above), you’ll know that it is an exclusive item sold at The Rack and was never carried at a full-line Nordstrom. Instead, look for merchandise with an actual “Nordstrom” tag, especially if they’re covered with red clearance stickers, as those are items sent straight from the mainline Nordstrom store!
However, the tags won’t always say Nordstrom on them, either, and they may just have a designer tag with a red clearance sticker on it. And, sometimes, Nordstrom Rack will repurpose the designer tags when they get shipped to their store by placing one of their small white stickers on top of the tag.
Generally, if you find a designer price tag with a Nordstrom Rack sticker on top, it likely came from a mainline Nordstrom store. This may vary by brand, but is generally true for big brands like Free People.
4. Price match at Nordstrom Rack.
While prices at The Rack are significantly lower than designer brands, you can (and should) price match! If you find a lower price at a competitor for an identical item before making your purchase, The Rack will match that price.
However, they are unable to match prices from auction sites, outlet stores, their websites, or other retailers’ discount promotions, shipping offers, and gift card offers.
5. Hunt for those $0.01 deals.
While these deals are rare and not always tagged accordingly, you may be able to find items priced at just $0.01. These items are technically old inventory and are supposed to be shipped to Nordstrom’s Last Chance clearance store in Phoenix, AZ; however, occasionally they get missed and are sold as final sale (no returns or exchanges).
If you happen to find one, snag it and run to the register! 🏃🏻♀️
6. Watch for “Altered or Refinished” items.
Lastly, if you see an item with a tag that says “Altered or Refinished” on it, it’s an altered or refurbished designer item from the mainline Nordstrom store and will have a Nordstrom Rack price tag. If the item is in good condition and fits well, you can often get great buys on these tailored items!
Need to have a dress or pair of pants hemmed? As mentioned on their FAQ page, select Nordstrom Rack stores conveniently offer alterations and tailoring services for both in-store and online purchases – which could save you a trip to the alterations store. Simply bring your item(s) and receipt or packing slip to a select store. Contact your local Nordstrom Rack store for details.
