Bye, DirecTV. Say Hello to HBO Max, My New BFF (Watch the Hottest TV Reboots & Exclusive Movies!)
I ditched my DirecTV service after many years of being a customer. I had been getting a really great deal for a long time and when it ended and there were no offers for long-time subscribers, I cut the cord and haven’t looked back.
I love my HULU and Netflix, but sometimes a girl just needs a little something extra when you’ve watched every. single. show. in. life. during the pandemic and have run out of things to watch! 😆
That’s where HBO Max saves the day!
What is HBO Max? My BFF of course!
HBO Max is also home to so many great original shows including some of our team faves – True Detective, Mare of Easttown, Hacks, Game of Thrones, Superman & Lois, and Silicon Valley.
HBO Max even has some of your old favorites like The Big Bang Theory, Sex & The City, Friends, The OC, and Gossip Girl.
Plus, did you hear that they’ve rebooted both Sex & The City AND Gossip Girl?! These are both two must-watch reboots!
HBO Max offers tons of movies, too!
In addition to all of the great TV series, you’ll find tons of movies to watch including some exciting HBO exclusives! Recently they released The Batman, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, The Bob’s Burgers Movie, The Matrix: Resurrections, and so many more!
Plus, choose from classics like The Dark Night, Casablanca, Dune, Spirited Away, The Lord of the Rings, The Goonies, The LEGO Batman Movie, and more – totally worth a rewatch!
HBO also releases Warner Bros. movies 45 days from the day it hits theaters, so if you miss seeing one of your favorites this summer, you won’t need to wait months and months for your next chance.
The HBO Max plans are super affordable!
HBO Max has two subscription plans to choose from and you can choose to pay monthly or yearly for additional savings:
HBO Max with ads
$9.99 per month, or $99.99 per year (a savings of 16%)
This plan allows you to watch thousands of hours of series, movies, and exclusive originals in HD. You will see ads during the programming from time to time.
HBO Max without ads
$14.99 per month, or $149.99 per year (a savings of 16%)
This plan allows you to watch thousands of hours of series, movies, and exclusive originals in HD, with select movie titles available in 4K UHD.
With the ad-free plan, you’ll also be able to download your favorite titles to watch anytime on the go – this is great for when you’re traveling and need something to watch on the plane.
HIP TIP: AT&T wireless customers may be able to score HBO Max for FREE with select unlimited plans. Be sure to log-in to your AT&T Wireless Account to see if your plan is eligible for the offer.
Considering a single movie ticket runs around $12+, you simply can’t go wrong with HBO Max, even if you only watch 2 movies per month. Enjoy a date night in with a new movie, some popcorn, and maybe a DIY charcuterie board… now that sounds like fun to me! Talk about a relaxing date night in on the cheap!
Hip Tip: Make yummy popcorn at home with our favorite microwave popcorn popper!
What about the kiddos?
Never fear, there’s tons of kids programming here! HBO Max has a whopping 51 seasons of Sesame Street available with episodes dating all the way back to 1969. Did you know that the new episodes of Sesame Street air on HBO Max first before they hit PBS? Yep, it’s true!
Not only that, you’ll find family-friendly favorites like The Flintstones, Looney Tunes, Ben 10, Scooby-Doo, The Smurfs, The Jetsons, and more!
I don’t watch a lot of TV and since I now live alone I only have me to please. I love being able switch between streaming sources. I’ve had Discovery+,Disney+, Britbox, Pluto, Philo (grandfathered in at $10/month!). I cancel those I’m not watching and go back when I’m ready to resume. Add digital antenna for local channels and I generally spend less than $20/month on my TV services.
Some American Express card offers have $25 off a year subscription or $99.
Awesome! Thanks for letting us know!
Where’s the “Free” HBO Max in your post? This isn’t a deal. This is the same price you can get always.
So sorry for the confusion, Piper! We’ve updated the post title! 🥰
I don’t see any mention of free HBO in this post. Did I miss that part? Also, we have Tubi TV (which is actually free) and they have a ton of shows on there including most of the kids shows listed here.
The title of the article is “Bye DirecTV. Hello Cheap or Free HBO Max!”
Well there was no mention of how to get it free and I thought I missed it. No need to he snippy. I was just wondering if I had missed it. They changed the title because others were wondering as well.
Hi there, Kristy! Thanks for catching the title error! It’s been updated. Sorry for any confusion!
Not sure if you’re aware since it’s not mentioned in the post, but HBO Max is merging with Discovery+ this fall.
Thanks a bunch for the heads up! We’ll look into that!
