Walgreens Corporate Coupon Policy
One of the most important things you can do to ensure that you are a “Hip” Walgreens shopper is to familiarize yourself with the Walgreens Coupon Policy. I recommend that you print a copy of this policy and bring it with you while you shop. If any issues arise, this Coupon Policy should definitely help clear things up!

Earning Walgreens Cash
myWalgreens Rewards Members will earn Walgreens Cash with the purchase of specified products and/or services during specified promotions periods. Online orders delivered to your home will earn Walgreens Cash as though they were purchased in-store.
There is no limit to how many Walgreens Cash rewards you can earn. The maximum amount of Walgreens Cash rewards that can be redeemed in a single transaction is $50 Walgreens Cash rewards, with a $100 Walgreens Cash rewards redemption limit per day.
When returning items paid for with Walgreens Cash rewards, you will be refunded in the form of store credit. Walgreens Cash cannot be redeemed to purchase alcohol, dairy, tobacco, prepaid cards, clinic services, prescriptions, pharmacy items or services, contact lenses, and photo orders not picked up in-store.
NOTE: In certain situations when shopping online, Walgreens Cash will only be earned if your order is shipped to your home. Even if Walgreens Cash is listed on the product page, that is not a guarantee that you will earn it with store pickup. The conditions for earning Walgreens Cash will be mentioned in our posts, but you can also check out this Promotions page each week if you have any questions.
How to redeem your Walgreens Cash
Use your Walgreens Cash rewards by providing your phone number or the contactless checkout bar code associated with your account during your purchase. Just make sure your email address has been added to your myWalgreens account.
When you spend your Walgreens Cash rewards, the savings are deducted from the total price of your purchase. Walgreens Cash rewards can be used in addition to Walgreens or other manufacturer discounts or promotions unless otherwise stated in the promotional offer. Walgreens Cash rewards are applied to eligible purchases after tax and after all discounts, percent-off and manufacturer coupons are applied.
Walgreens Cash Expiration
Walgreens Cash expire 12 months after they are originally earned. If you have not used your Walgreens Cash rewards in a transaction for 6 consecutive calendar months, your membership will be deemed inactive and all accumulated Walgreens Cash rewards will be forfeited.
Become familiar with Register Rewards (RR). Walgreens In-Store Register Rewards are manufacturer coupons that print out from a Catalina machine at the register after you have completed your transaction. The Register Rewards print out after you buy a participating product, which may be advertised in the Walgreens weekly ad. There are also Register Reward deals not advertised in the weekly ads which are posted inside the store.
Register Rewards are basically manufacturer coupons. When you have a RR in hand to use, you can only use ONE RR per item purchased.
For example: If you are purchasing three items, you can use up to a combination of three manufacturer coupons and/or RRs. If you attempt to use more than three, the register will beep. If you run into a situation where you have more manufacturer coupons/RRs to use than products, look for “filler” items to add to your purchase.
Fillers are inexpensive items that allow you to apply more coupons at checkout. Great options for filler items include clearance merchandise, small candies, and pencils.) Note: Walgreens store coupons do NOT count toward your coupon-to-item ratio. In other words, the register will not beep if you are using more Walgreens coupons than items.
If you purchase more than one of the same Register Reward participating item per transaction, you will only receive one Register Reward–NOT two! In order to get more than one RR coupon when purchasing more than one of the same qualifying items, request that each item is rung up in a separate transaction. However, you can purchase different Register Reward qualifying items in the same transaction, and you will receive one RR for each different qualifying Register Reward item purchased.
Another important thing to note is that Register Reward deals do not roll. This means that if you receive a $2RR for purchasing Huggies diapers, you cannot use this same RR to purchase another package of Huggies diapers and expect another $2RR to be generated. Occasionally, a Register Reward deal will roll (which is very unusual). When this happens, I’ll be sure to post about it on Hip2Save.
You can use Register Rewards from a different deal to pay for another Register Reward deal – which means you can roll Register Rewards from different deals to help lower your out-of-pocket expense.
If a Register Reward does not print, make sure the Catalina machine is on (Note: You should see a blinking green light) and that you bought EXACTLY the right variety of products to generate the RR. If you still feel that you should have received an RR, you can have the cashier delete the transaction and ring your items up again, OR you can leave the store and call the Catalina company directly.
You can reach Catalina at 1-888-8coupon: Have your receipt in hand and state which items in your purchase should have triggered an RR. Catalina will review your transaction and will mail you an RR within two to three weeks if you did, in fact, buy a qualifying item.
Using Walgreens Store Coupons
Learning how to correctly use Walgreens store coupons will ensure that you have a smooth transaction. Store coupons are posted in the Walgreens weekly ad and are found in the Walgreens Monthly Savings Booklets. New booklets, loaded with Walgreens store coupons, are available each month and are free to take!
Look for these free booklets near the weekly ads in the front of the store OR you can digitally clip them to your myWalgreens card here. You may also spot store coupons in various other Walgreens Savings Booklets – these booklets are often found in the pharmacy area and are even displayed in store aisles.
Walgreens store coupons can be stacked with manufacturer’s coupons, sales, Walgreens Cash-earning offers, and/or Register Reward promos! You can sometimes walk away with really inexpensive or FREE products when you stack these discount offers!
More Helpful Information
If you’re planning to buy mass quantities of a sale item, consider contacting the store to see if you can order the item in advance. (You can usually order up to 99 of a particular item in advance; however, this is at the store’s discretion). Contacting the store is much better than coming in on the first day of a sale and completely wiping out the shelves. The store associates and fellow couponers will love you for taking the time to order *HOT* sale items in advance!
If you’re planning for multiple transactions, consider checking out at the Cosmetics counter. Typically this counter is not as crowded, so the cashier will usually have the time and patience to deal with all the coupons we Hip2Savers like to use and/or to allow for multiple transactions. Don’t forget to ask the cosmetic counter employee if she/he has extra manufacturer coupons for cosmetics-related items (or any other store items). There is often a huge stash of coupons available behind the counter and sometimes FREE samples, too! Just ask!
Walgreens does issue rain checks! Rain checks are good for in-store purchases only and are valid for 60 days. In some instances, a store employee may authorize the substitution of a similar item of the same brand at the advertised price.
Buy One, Get One Free Items: If there’s a Buy One Get One free sale, Walgreens now only allows ONE manufacturer coupon to be applied to the item you are paying for (NO manufacturer coupons are allowed to be applied to the free item). The Walgreens coupon policy states:
- For offers when multiple items are purchased and additional items are free (buy 1 get 1 free; buy 2 get 1 free, etc.), the number of coupons applied to that offer cannot exceed the number of items required in the “buy” portion of the offer.
- Coupons may not be applied against any free item received in any offer.
Also, note that Walgreens will no longer accept coupons that exceed the selling price of an item.
Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for orange clearance tags! You can often pair up clearance items with Walgreens and/or manufacturer’s coupons to score items for super cheap or even FREE!
If you have an issue with a cashier, ask to speak with the store manager. If you are unable to resolve the issue with the manager, note the manager’s name and the time the incident occurred and then call Customer Service. The phone number is 1-800-WALGREENS or 1-800-925-4733 or you can click here to start a live chat with a representative. You can always write a letter, too:
