How do you like the flip? I was thinking this would be great for my son that is currently deployed, but maybe the flip would be easier?? any advice???

I purchased a Flip at Christmas when Avon had them and they were ridiculously cheap and frankly, I’ve been disappointed. I needed something I could use for recording sessions in my classroom or recording my kids’ performances. I don’t like that its not easy to take a still shot without going into the software and pulling it from the video. I don’t want that much complexity as I frankly don’t have the time. I gave it to my 12 year old who has used it a bit but really would like something she could take still shots with too. Also at Christmas time I purchased a Sanyo pocketcam and it has many more capabilities and I found that the recordings were more clear and the sound was much better. I ordered the camcorder above in hopes of getting one for my daughter that she can use for some very amateur photography that she wants to do. For the price of a regular basic digital camera I could buy her- this one would do that plus the recording so I think it will be perfect! 🙂 I think I’m going to ebay the FLIP.

no, they’re terrible! (at least, this is what my DH says…and he’s a total computer/electronics nerd:) lol.

Insignia, which is the Best Buy ‘house’ brand actually has some good products that have been reviewed well. I have 2 high def LCD flat panels from them and both have better picture quality, design and features then some pricier ‘name’ brands. But of course, it is all about what ‘product’ you are getting. This $39 camcorder has fair reviews – but not ‘great’ – you’ve got to read them all. It seems like a decent entry level job and if that’s all you want you can’t go wrong for the price. The ‘flips’ are better and while they cost more, they can be found on sale for a good price.

I ordered & picked up in the store today. A total hassle – first they didn’t get the order, then they couldn’t find the item, managers, supervisors, 1-888BestBuy phone calls, snotty employees – after 50 minutes, I finally walked out with my new video camera. It’s a great deal, so I hope it’s worth it 🙂
I hate Best Buy, we spent a lot of money there recently and the employees are no where to be found and when you FINALLY walk all over to find someone they act like they are doing you a favor. They need to use some of that technology and install in-store cameras to see all the employees bunched up together (during the Christmas sale season no less) yacking it up and ignoring the customers with money in their wallets. Unbelieveable.

Ordered mine first thing this morning, set for in store pick up, got an e-mail that it was ready to be picked up within 15 minutes of ordering. My husband went in to get it, and was back out in less than 5 minutes. LOVE the camera!!!
What do ya want for $39.99 ?? (although it’s not worth anywhere even close to the original price!!) But, my husband who is a computer geek…BIGTIME (he builds them) ALWAYS SAYS….with electronics- you get what you pay for. There are a few exceptions but, not many. This would be a great toy for a kid up to age 10 perhaps. But, beyond that age they expect better!! What happened to the days when a 110 camera could make a child do back flips?? Oh, I guess I’m getting old!!
