I googled “Fred’s diapers” and found they got mixed reviews. Some people thought they were fine, others said they were terrible. I requested a sample, so I guess I’ll get to be my own judge. 😉
We have a Fred’s in my town and I received a pack of newborn diapers for my first baby at a baby shower (20 months ago). I ended up not using them until recently (after my second baby was born.) My husband and I were not fans! They have a mesh part on the inside that sticks to the baby’s bottom and so far Fred’s and Luv’s are the only diapers that my son has leaked out of. I wouldn’t compare that pack to Huggies AT ALL!!! They seemed more like Pampers. I am going to go ahead and request this sample because I’m hoping that maybe they have changed the way the diapers are made since that pack was from over a year ago.
Just ordered them for a friend who just had a new baby. Thanks!
OFF TOPIC: FedEx just dropped off my Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions kit that Collin posted about on March 2. Anyone else get theirs? It’s NICE and comes with a FULL SIZE spot treatment!
anything helps. If you assume diapers are approx. .15-.20 cents / diaper, then you just saved .40, put it away in a rainy day fund and it’ll add up. 🙂
I requested size 6 for my 20 month old because he wears that size only at night and size 6 is REALLY expensive per diaper. Any free diapers in that size helps save us money (whether we actually like the brand or not)!!! Two free diapers in size 6 saves us about $0.50-$0.70.
If anyone is having trouble with the site, switch browsers. I was using FF and it wasn’t bringing in all the questions it was asking and the submit button. So I switched to IE and it worked fine.
UPDATE: It appears you can also hit the “Tab” button to bring in the other questions if using a browser thats giving you trouble instead of switching browsers. Wish I knew that earlier. I wasted like 15-20 minutes! lol oh well
My son is 10 days old so i hit the 0-3 months option. I hit the “send me diapers” button and it said that I didn’t complete my form. I ended up having to choose the 3-6 months old for it to be a completed form. Anyone else have this problem?
The real key to saving money on diapers? Cloth! I’ve used cloth on my 8-month-old girl since she was 1 month old. Cloth diapering is so much different now…way easier than when my mom cloth diapered me! And, it’s saved us so much money!
not true….for an up front cost of $200-$300 (i use bum genius one size pocket style and homemade wipes) I have now diapered 2 children, one for almost 3 years. You can even mitigate the cost by buying used. Even if you only spend $50/month on diapers and wipes (I have a friend who switched when her daughter was 3 mo. and she budgeted $85/mo) you will recoup your cost in 4-6 months, anything after that is profit! Also, think of all those diapers that won’t be in the landfill for your great, great, great, great…….grandchildren 🙂
Stepping of my soapbox now.
And one of the most economical ways to cloth diaper is Econobum. Love them. It’s a cover that can be used from birth until toddler that’s used with prefolds. So easy and cheap! And it works so well.
How do you clean them? Do you use a diaper service? I can’t say the idea of washing several poopy diapers a day in my washer really appeals to me, and a diaper service not only seems really expensive but there are none in my area.
I use a sprayer attached to my toilet to spray all poop off, and then wash in the washing machine. VERY easy and saves so much money. We’re on our 2nd child to use them and love them. I highly recommend Bumgenius brand. We’re also planning on re-selling them when we’re done with all our children, so we’ll even get back some of the money we invested!
I too use a sprayer but you can also buy flushable liners so the poop just falls off the diaper into the toilet and can be flushed. I know the idea of poop in the washer is an issue for some but honestly after 3 years I’ve never had “residual” in my washer. also, you can use “cheap” detergent (I use purex hypoallergenic) because the brighteners and additives in the more expensive ones actually cause a buildup on the diapers. You use 1/2 the detergent you normally would with a load of clothes and an extra rinse. hang the covers to dry and dry the inserts with NO fabric softeners.
I was completely opposed to cloth diapering when I had my 1st son. My sister was 12 years younger than me and I vividly remember diapering with cloth, pins and plastic pants…..I swore never again! Cloth diapering today is nothing like that! I encourage those interested to at least look at their options so they can make an informed decision. If you choose to go the disposable route at least you’ll know you chose it with knowledge, and don’t beat yourself up. As much as I’m an advocate for cloth diapering I’m more of an advocate for moms. We all have to choose our battles and know what we can take on. Weather you breast or bottle feed, use cloth or disposable, co-sleep or crib sleep, baby wear or stroller your child there is no one right way to be a GREAT mom (or dad). Let’s support one another in the choices we make that work for our family. If we all join together we are a FORCE to be reckoned with. Just because my way works for me doesn’t mean your way is wrong or doesn’t work for you.
We love the bun genius diapers too, and love them. You are right about the cost. It seemed like a lot in the beginning, but now at 20 months, they have saved us lots of money. They are so easy to wash, and out daughter has never had a rash at all with them. I was not convinced in the beginning, but am a total believer now. AND they are in great condition for another child. (We did buy some of them used too.)
If you do your research it is very easy to do cloth and not hard at all . It’s an one load of diapers every other day. When I had 2 in diapers I was washing 25-30 diapers every other day. So it is defiantly cheaper no matter when you start. I do love Bumgenius and they are so easy. But b/c there is a lot of upfront cost we started using Prefolds with covers. It is much cheaper and I’ve loved it. The prefolds cost $2-$4 each and the covers you can re-use if it was just wet. My daughter was potty trained before 2 and my 23 month old is on his way to being potty trained. I think the cloth help with that as well.
Totally off-topic, but I got TONS of great freebies in the mail today, thanks to Hip2Save:
-a heart-shaped Post It pad;
-my almost free Modnique bamboo cutting board;
-the Little Kids no-spill Bubble Tumbler
AND – because I called about GummyVites that got way too hard to chew – a $10 Target Gift Card!
Wahoo! What a super mail day! Thank you, Collin!
We have a FRED’s in our area. I rarely go. We also have a Magic Mart. I honestly don’t know how either stay in business. I would say they are in between Dollar General/Family dollar and K-Mart.
I appreciate the free diapers. I don’t need them anymore but keep them with me to give out in an emergency – it happens!
Fred’s doubles coupons up to 70c on Saturdays, and they ALSO price match competing stores. You can catch some really good deals that way – I usually take my 50c dish detergent coupons there on Saturday, double them to $1 and get the small bottles of dish detergent for free.
Hi there — just wondering how you all feel about adding free sample into gift baskets? I have a friend who is pregnant and I’m putting together a really cute basket..I already got 2 free diapers from a sample before, and wasn’t sure if it’s weird to add those into a basket without any packaging or anything? Thoughts?
thanks!
Hey, I think that is fine. You could roll them up and tie a cute ribbon on them – maybe with a tag that says what size they are. It’s sort of the same thing when people get “diaper cakes” – tons of little diapers to untie! But so exciting!
I’m pregnant, and I can tell you that if someone gave me a gift basket with a lot of little samples and freebies in it I’d be THRILLED!! It’s a really good way to get to try out new baby things without spending a lot of money (or any money) on the items first – you never know when you’re going to find a product that you love, simply because you were able to get a freebie or trial size of it 🙂
These freebie diapers are great to keep in the car for those emergencies where you accidentally leave home with out the diaper bag and/or enough diapers. We keep a ziploc of a variety of sizes + travel wipes for those just in case moments. Yay, thanks Colin!
Don't Miss Out! Join our large community of insiders - it's totally free! Once you join, you'll be able to save & share your favorite deals, rate posts and recipes and add items to your HipList and Cookbook! What are ya waiting for?!
Yay! More free diapers for my friends! Thanks for letting us know, Collin!
Wow! That’s crazy! Free diapers!
You’re great Collin!
Has anyone tried these diapers? Do they work well? Thanks 🙂
I googled “Fred’s diapers” and found they got mixed reviews. Some people thought they were fine, others said they were terrible. I requested a sample, so I guess I’ll get to be my own judge. 😉
Thanks Bev!

Thank you so much colin! this will be my additional baby shower gift to my co-worker who is due sometime next month 🙂
Awesome! Thanks!
Our local pregnancy center will enjoy getting these! I just donated a bunch of the Wag’s diapers I got for $2.50 last week!
Thanks!

Thanks got mine! I have never heard of them before either but you can’t argue with free 😉 Thanks again
ok..so its early and i just started my coffee so I could be missing something here. But where is the “Submit” button? I can’t complete my request.
It’s at the bottom of the form and says “Send Me Diapers.” HTH.
Just ordered them for a friend who just had a new baby. Thanks!

I got mine today too! I thought it was a great size, can’t wait to try it.
Thank you
This is a great find. Thanks Collin!
I did the request but it is actually not that exciting to only get 2 diapers. That will last maybe a few hours tops!

I tried the 0 – 3 month too and it didn’t work so I hit 4 – 6 and then it worked!
I had the same problem!!!
Me too.
wow! I’m a religious Luvs user, but I’m up to try some free diapers!

I actually found that unless you start when they are fairly young and go all the way through with them it doesn’t really save much
