Meet the Hall Family…

This Hip2Save.com Deal was hand-posted on Tuesday, June 7th, 2011 at 2:22 pm.

As most of you know, we will be embarking on the Hip2Help Tour in early July and are planning to sponsor between 1-3 families in 4 different communities along the way. Thanks to the help of Hip2Save reader volunteer Sarah in Elmore County, Alabama, we are honored to introduce one of our sponsored families in Alabama, the Hall Family. The Hall family consists of dad, mom, boy (age 10) and girl (age 13). As you can see from the pictures above, the Hall family lost their entire home and is currently living with family members in the area until a rental house becomes available. Here is a little about their story:

On April 27th, the family was sitting down eating dinner and watching the news. Dad walked outside and heard tornado sirens going off “I walked back in and saw the storm cell on the news,” Dad told me. “We decided to go to my parents house who is not far from where we lived.” It’s a good thing that they did because when they came back to their house all that was left was 11 years of debris.

If you want to help us support this family through donations, here is what is needed:

* Kitchen supplies
* Beds (already donated!) and bedding (twin, full/queen and king-size bedding is needed)
* Bathroom linens
* Dining room table
* Living room furniture

Please mail donations for the Hall Family to the following address:
Note: If your donated items are not immediately needed by the family, they will be stored in this location until we arrive in July.

    I’m glad you’re posting info on these families. Just this morning I was tempted to feel sorry for myself because we’re so broke that last weekend we stayed home while all our friends went to the movies. This really puts things into perspective.

    • Sally says:

      I agree completely. Lately I have been complaining alot about how small my house is. We bought before the bubble burst on the market, my brother bought after and got alot more house for the same amount of money. Whenever I go over there I get depressed. But now when I see these photos and hear these stories I just thank God that we have a home, no matter how small.

    • Laura says:

      I know I was feeling sorry for myself this morning because I have an illness, but seeing this made me put things in perspective. These people lost everything and I’m complaining? Boy is it humbling.

  • Katie says:

    It’s horrible how one tornado can ruin a family’s life in so many ways. I hope things clear up for them and that they keep their heads up high!

  • tammy f says:

    that really makes us realize that “THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS IN LIFE–AREN’T THINGS”!!!!!!!!

    • christina says:

      Tammy well said, I would never feel it ruined my life, just put another hill to climb. I would be so amazing and ok as long as my family and friends still had life. …(I have faced really bad times, though not a tornado or destruction of home but being able to walk again) It is where you lay roots that make it a home, a house is a house, things can be replaced but the ability to live through it or get through it with life and possibility are what truly matters. Needing help is not easy and it takes a great person to know when to ask or when to accept the help. And BIG HEARTS AND GREAT MINDS, that can come together and be the givers without ever expecting a thing in return. I recently watched Tornado Rampage on discovery which shows the devestation, broke down in tears like no end…how a woman can come out alive buried under her restaurant just blows my mind. She put it so wonderful, she is alive and will build bigger and better. I dont think she meant the restaurant itself, I think she meant her life, and the community as people. BLESS all of you whom survived and all whom are helping. Don’t forget the people who have lost a loved one and may need support as well. () () () () (tears)

  • guess I’ll be sharing my kitchen towels too. I have Jafra gift packs, toothpaste, toothbrushes, tylenol products, wash cloths, etc all packed and ready to send to Collin in NC. Will send the kitchen towels to Sarah, so there isn’t so much for the hip2help tour to carry. I just bought new ones,,, and will share what I got, since i got such a great DEAL!

  • Valerie says:

    If you take the Staples $3 off $3 coupon, you can get Nice Hand Towels or other kitchen supplies for under $3. What a nice thing to do and then send it to the Hall Family.

  • Lisa m says:

    wow, everytime i see these pics it breaks my heart…..I lost everything to a fire when I was young, its so hard to start over but with help from others they can.

  • April says:

    What size in bedding?

  • Beth says:

    Are you looking for brand new items or can they be gently used in good condition?

  • Kathy says:

    Collin,
    I want to tell you how great I think you are. I noticed you decided to let the “contact person” open donations and see what items were needed right away, instead of putting it all in storage. I think you decided this after reading comments on the first family. I was one of those who expressed my feelings that it was great to actually have a place to store some items they don’t have a place for, but I felt waiting with all of it did not make sense. Though some of the other readers took these comments negatively, you carefully considered it, and decided it made sense. In no way did I want to be criticize, but having lost almost everything in a fire myself… This is such a great thing to do, and I just wanted to thank you for listening.too!

  • Laura B says:

    Collin,
    I’m 23 and just moved out of my parents house. I have a huge box filled of teenage girl room decorations that i will never use again. Would their daughter be able to use these in her new room??

  • Samantha says:

    I apologize in advance if these questions were answered as I did not see anywhere. I would like to help and see there are several large items requested (furniture). Although I would not be able to donate a large item myself, would gift cards or a monetary donation be accepted towards the items requested? I was just thinking if a large group of people donated a small amount this family may be able to purchase some furniture. Thank you.

    • SARAH says:

      You can send in gift cards to the donation location. Every little bit counts and adds up! Thank you much for what you are doing to help this family Samantha!

  • yippee8999 says:

    I’m wondering if there are a few people out there who might like to chip in to purchase coordinating bedroom furniture? Someone buys the bed, someone else the dresser, someone else a mattress, and someone the end table? I know not everyone is in the position to do so, but maybe something like this where each piece is reasonably priced and shipping is free?
