As I mentioned yesterday, we are leaving in early July for the Hip2Help Tour and are planning to sponsor between 1-3 families in 4 different communities along the way. Thanks to the help of Hip2Save reader volunteer Sarah in Elmore County, Alabama, we are honored to introduce another one of our sponsored families, the Stewart Family. The Stewart family consists dad, mom, and 4 girls under the age of 9 (pictured above)!

The Stewart Family lost everything twice this year, once in a house fire, and then again in the April 27th tornado. The family is currently unable to get to their house because of fallen trees/debris and the road is washed out and in need of gravel. As a result, they are currently living on the front part of the property in their camper (which is rather small for a family of 6).

The Stewart Family is in need of the following items:

For the Girls:
Pant sizes 8, 6x, 6/7, 5T
Shirts: Small and Medium
Shoes: 3, 11, 12, 12 1/12.
Bookbags and school supplies (needed for 2 girls)

* Mom and Dad have asked that the focus of this sponsorship be on the kids; however, the family is also in need of end tables, lamps and sofas and kitchen items, full-size bedding, and bathroom and personal toiletry items.

Please mail donations for the Stewart Family to the following address:
Note: If your donated items are not immediately needed by the family, they will be stored in this location until we arrive in July.

I was just wondering if it would be possible to send gift cards instead of purchasing the items myself. That way the family knows exactly what they need and can purchase what they need. And what girl doesn’t like to shop for their own outfits? I undrestand alot of stores were wiped out by these tornados as well. Do they have stores that are operating now?

    • Collin

Gift cards would be wonderful! Here are some local stores in Elmore County:

Grocery Stores in the area: Winn Dixie, Publix, Food Outlet, and WalMart.

Other stores: Target, KMart, WalGreens, CVS, RiteAid, Kohls, Ross, TJ Maxx,
Belk, JC Penny, Ann Taylor, Bath and Body Works, Toys R Us, Rack Room Shoes, Burlington Coat Fatory, Dillards, Hobby Lobby, Dicks Sporting Goods, Academy Sports, Costco, Sams Club

Places to eat: Outback, Mellow Mushroom, Logans, Long Horn, OCharlies, Olive Garden, IHop, Shoneys, Red Lobster, Bone Fish Grill, Chik Fil A, Sonic, McDonalds, Hardees, Wendy’s, Pizza Hut, Moe’s, Starbucks

      THANKS!

        Thanks so much!!

Hi, do the clothes for the girls have to be new? I have girls around the same ages. I could send gently used clothing if thats acceptable. Thanks.

    • Collin

Gently used clothing would be great!

      • ketsy

That’s awesome. I chose this family too and added to the new clothes a Sunday dress that my daughter only used once because it’s beautiful and goes with the new shoes 🙂

  3. Lisa m

what pretty girls I will see what I can do.

  4. Whitley

My heart just melts for these precious girls. I will definitely be going through my stockpile/gift closet and sending them a bunch of stuff. Look at those smiles… even after all they have endured. That’s what it’s all about right there, people. 🙂

  5. April

Is the full size bedding for the little girls or the parents? Just checking because I have some cute full size little girls bedding. Thanks

  6. Stephanie

Perfect timing; I was going to sell my daughter’s clothing that she has outgrown and now I will just send it to these adorable little angels. 🙂

  7. Lori

I am sharing this on my FB page with my friends as Wetumpka is where most of my friends now live. Thanks for posting this, so nice to see some of my families neighbors being helped out! I will definitely be assisting in some way!

    • ketsy

Yay! Love the picture. I had chosen this family because of the little girls. I have a 4 year old girl the same size and have been buying new clothes during the spring to set her a closet for her first year of school. My Makayla won’t miss a few of those items to share with these little girls. And now that I saw their picture, I’m so excited… They are so cute. Can’t wait to finish the box and to show Makayla the picture of her new friends . 🙂

    • SARAH

      Lori,
If any of your friends would like to help with this event please give them my information!! They can find the event on Facebook as well A Day to Remember Full of Fun and Laughter

  8. Susan

Thank you so much Collin for posting the photo of the girls. I sent a box last week and now I can see the cute recipients of the clothes. God bless you for doing the Hip2Help Tour!

OMG! This one got me! I have 3 sisters and we are about the same age range apart. We are all grown now with familes of our own and I can’t image something like this happening to us when we were that age. I have a daughter that is in a size 10 now, so her and I will be finding some special items to send their way. Since my sisters and I all are huge followers of Hip2Save and talk about Collin and her deals like she is a close friend of ours, I encourage the Mercer mommas (and everyone else) to step up and help this family out!

    • Sandie

      Gift cards on the way!

I absolutely love that you are able to pull everyone together and donate items to these families!!!!!! I wish I had money to spare, but unfortunately I am a college student on a strict budget. I hope to be able to help in the future, but in the mean time I’ll be mustering all the peace, love, and prayers and sending them their way! 🙂

    • Joan

If you have any coupons for things you dont’ use,, or wouldn’t miss…. I gathered up my free yogurt coupon, a coupon for free cottonelle wipes, and a $5.00 Bar S certificate that I had. Not much, but each little bit can help so much…. just a thought

      • SARAH

Great!! We will be having a coupon swap the day of the event….we love coupons!

  11. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I can’t wait to put a box together for this family! I have 3 girls under the age of 10 and we are going to have a great time getting these girls an awesome box. I’ve tried really hard to teach my girls that the world is bigger than just them and that even tho they’re small they can still make a difference in the lives of someone else. This will be a great example to them to help someone their own age.

    • Jennifer D

I did the same with my daughter last night. I chose the first family (the Duffey’s) because the daughter is my daughters age. She went through her closet last night and picked out numerous outfits for her. My son (3) even donated one of his silly bands! I love that my kids are learning the meaning of giving…

  12. Mary

Collin, I lived in the Wetumpka/Eclectic area of Elmore County for about 6 years… I just wanted to say THANK YOU for all that you have done!! Having gone through Hurricane Katrina, I know just what that area is experiencing. It means so much to know that there are people that are willing to help perfect strangers! God Bless all of y’all!!!

    • SARAH

      Mary,
Are you still in the area?

  13. jlarabee1

Can you please tell me the girls names and their corresponding age?? I would like to put together individual care packages for each girl and try to personalize as much as possible. Thank you so much for everything you do!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Halie is 9 years old. Sidney is 7 years old. Ashley is 6. And Makenzie is 4.

  14. Melissa

My 7 year old has just outgrown all her size 6’s and I still have most of her size 5 shirts and pants, and since my 3-yr-old is tiny it doesn’t make sense to store these items for the next 3 to 4 years until they fit her. I’m going to be sending a big box of super cute clothes!

  15. Gina

Just got some free Tomstone pizza coupons in the mail today. It’s not much but I am gonna mail them to the family today. Those little girls are too cute.
