So, once again, I am not going to do my typical “Sunday Coupon Insert Preview” as I received yet another email from reader, Carol, with a list of all the coupons that she will be receiving in her Washington DC newspaper. As I’ve said on the previous posts, it’s interesting to compare the differences between the Washington Post coupon inserts and the coupon inserts that the Sunday Coupon Preview has highlighted.

Alright, so I am going to list all of the coupons that reader, Carol, will be receiving in her Washington Post newspaper tomorrow, 7/10. I would suggest checking the list below and also heading on over to Sunday Coupon Preview to get an idea of what coupons you may receive. Please keep in mind that NOT all areas will get the same coupons or coupon values.

There will be two coupon inserts available in the 7/10 Sunday newspaper. You’ll receive one Red Plum coupon insert and one SmartSource coupon insert. Also, make sure to check your Parade Magazine or USA Today (depending on where you live) for coupons as well.

im new here but i dont understand why it matters if “Carol” gets the same coupons or not…i dont get it.

    • ketsy

Some coupons are regional. We have seen many and sometimes big difference between major cities and smaller cities. In our case in Florida for example; the Orlando Sentinel (based in Orlando obviously) has been said to contain more coupons within their inserts than the Florida today which is available throughout Florida.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thank You b/c I was thinking the same thing

  2. Maryann

I have the benefit of being in an area where I get both New York and Philadelphia papers. Without fail. there are differences in both the number and value of coupons.

    • TJ

Hey at least you get 2 different sets to choose from!

  3. xtophq

I live in a suburb of Milwaukee, and we don’t even get Red Plum or P&G (when available). My mother in law gets it in her newspaper box for free every week, but we live in an apartment, so we don’t get it. So, in the paper, we get smartsource only. It’s still good, but it makes me feel like I live in the middle of nowhere when I don’t.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

@dwagner- write to Valasis (did I spell that right?) and request the red plum insert to be sent by mail. I have a PO box and wasn’t getting it. Here, they were giving my post office 100 copies and they were only putting them in the first 100 boxes. I am in the 200’s. I googled Valasis and wrote them an email. They are actually the ones that contacted my post office and found out what they were doing. Once they found out the post office wasn’t getting enough for all the boxes they started sending one for each box. You are welcome neighbors!!!

      • dwagner84

Thanks Val. I tried that – we’ll see what they say. I’ve already looked on their website under the see how to get your mailer or whatever it’s called, and they said it was in a different local newspaper that is super small – it’s weird.

    • DEBBS SEATTLE

Seattle Times does not contract with Red Plum either…THE SEATTLE TIMES!

I noticed you were up late as well Collin – thanks again for everything you do!!!! I think you are super woman too! ๐Ÿ™‚

I have noticed our papers are getting different ads then other areas also. I can go over collins list and print out my deals but when I get the paper and look at our ads they are so different lately. It makes my list almost useless. Have to wait and get my paper. Some are the same but the good deals we are not getting.

  8. Erin

Kinda off topic, but does anyone happen to have any .50 off any Minute Maid frozen novelty coupons that were in the paper a few weeks ago that they won’t be using?

    • Tia

      I have 2….nj07208@yahoo(dot)com

  9. Moe

Please tel me what about the ones in red make tbem your favorite— is it product or value, etc.?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

It’s the value. And when you print the listing you can delete the deals you aren’t going to use. Saves on paper and ink!

  10. april

I have to buy the detroit paper in order for me to get all the coupons instead of buying the local paper. I’ve notice the detroit paper has a lot more coupons in it.

    • Toni

Generally I just get the Macomb Daily so I’ll have to try the news this weekend. Thanks for the heads up ๐Ÿ˜‰

I guess it makes sense that the advertisers target different regions — as prices are different as well. Before the Internet, we would never know…except for those who get different inserts with different newspapers. In Kentucky, the Lexington and Louisville papers usually have different coupons and/or values. I subscribe to the Lexington Herald-Leader and we had some I don’t see here: .55/1 Dulcinea melon (x. 9/30) and .75/1 Rhodes warm-n-serve rolls (x10/31) in Red Plum and $1/1 SC Johnson all-in-one sprayer and $1/1 all-in-one concentrated cleaner cartridge (x8/21) in our Smart Source. And of course, our values are different in some cases, most notably we get .25/1 Folger’s 13 oz. or larger (instead of $1/2) and all the Cheer, Era and Gain coupons are .50/1 instead of $1/1. On the positive side, the Yoplait yogurt cups are .40/6 and .50/8.

It certainly makes a difference when you are looking at some of the deals and your coupons don’t have the same values — so it’s good to keep in mind when reading posted scenarios. And our Red Plum inserts are pitiful — they rarely have half the coupons listed online. So I’ve learned that I won’t be able to do a lot of posted RP deals for that reason. (I rarely buy coupons — just not worth it for me.)

    • Margie

It’s getting to be not worth it for me to buy coupons either. I may be missing out on some money makers, but with there being a lack of good food coupons (or even food coupons in general) I don’t see a point. I don’t care that every week (or so it seems) I can get colgate coupons!

  12. owls_for_olivia

Thanks so much for your hard work, Collin! In the Washington DC area, where reader Carol lives, we get pretty good coupons. As a newbie to the coupon scene, I have noticed that Health/Beauty/Household coupons are way more common than food ones. Lots of coupons for candy, but that doesn’t provide nutrition for my 4 year old! I’ve never bought coupons before, and don’t believe that I will begin to anytime soon, but if anyone knows of ways to get great food coupons, I’d love the input!
    Thanks Hip2Savers!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

It is hard to get food coupons but not impossible. I just printed two for Dricoll’s fruit. I figure the money I am NOT spending on HBA is more money available for real food. Does your grocery store put coupons on their meats? Mine does first thing in the morning for all the meat that was packaged yesterday. I freeze my meats within a day of buying them so who cares if it sat in their cooler or my fridge? If it is discounted I make sure it is frozen the same day. The coupons are very generous- $3.00 off a $7 package of meat!
Frozen vegetable coupons are somewhat easier to find and for me easier to maintain than fresh. I have written to Green Giant and Bird’s Eye and received coupons. In fact, haven’t done that in a while- may shoot them an email today…

  13. Katie

I got a DC paper and a Richmond paper…same coupons for both..but with different values! The DC one is usally a dollar vs the .25 in the Richmond paper but you have to buy 2 of the item! Gotta love living in an expensive area…. ๐Ÿ™

  14. Donna

I feel cheated…bought two Birmingham News papers and neither one had Smart Source in them.
